Nora The Leca Queen here! Welcome to The Leca Queen channel.
I love all things indoor PLANTS. I enjoy growing my plants in SOILESS media, yep, no soil! I primarily use LECA (clay balls) to grow my plants using hydroponics (semi-hydroponics).
I love helping plant lovers grow indoor plants using clay balls (also called leca). I’m here to help you finally make switching plants from soil to leca and general plant care easier and fun so you can ultimately get the bigger and healthier plants of your dreams.

Thank you so much! Definitely gonna do that with my bird!
Thank you for the simple explanation and demonstration.
You are very welcome.
Love both of you! My heroes and semihydro mentors!❤️
2:45 Bamboo sticks get on my nerves too 😅 7:17 I'm diggN your Eco Pot 🪴 and the plants turned out beautifully! Yaaay bobbing! TFS!
Honestly, bamboo sticks just do my head in!!!
Great video. I love those naked root pots. My peperomia red ripple likes it very much too. She's in pon.
They are just awesome right? I have a few plants in them and will probably do a video showing how they are doing.
@@TheLecaQueen oh, I can't wait to see that video. I bought a hole bunch of them after I saw your video testing them out. So far so good!
Nicely done! Looking fwd to updates Nora; thanks Nora!
Thank you! Will do! Have I told you how much I appreciate your support? I love knowing you are somewhere out there wishing me well and I hope one day we can meet!
@@TheLecaQueen Yes you have Nora! I appreciate the time, effort, stress, money & everything you do as a KZread content creator…for free. I don’t take you for granted Nora; THANKS!
Nora, I keep finding more great videos. To learn from you! Will start using this as soon as I purchase ! Thanks again!!
Hi, what I learned is that Alocasias have very thin roots. For this reason the substrate must be fine-grained, like Pon, for example. I learned, the hard way, that you have to water them very little but they must always have a slow release fertilizer. Finally you have to be lucky
💚🩷🌱👌
“Oh, it’s bobbing!” lol. It’s the small things that bring us joy.
Exactly right!! I am so easy to please. I love to see the bobbing 😂❤
Great video. I love eco pots. I like the texture. My 6” fluted cache pots fit them perfectly. Haven’t tried ones with water indicator yet.
Thank you so much. I have had the ecopots for a few years now. I am not sure if they still make them with the water level indicator anymore as I could not find them on their website. I only saw old stock from other online stores.
Peperomias give me problems lol i have one sprig in just straight water cuz it almost died in leca.
They can be a bit problematic 😊
Thank you for this. I really needed this ❤
You are so welcome
How can we clean these leca from algae?
Feeling so much more confident about diving into Leca. Very much appreciate all the info in one place. Big hi from melbourne!
Excellent info!
Wow! Thanks for showing this. That is a beautiful fern.
You are so welcome!
And that's why you're the leca queen 👑!!! Congratulations on a successful transfer.
You are too kind, thank you 😊
How do I do this with a Boston fern
If I were doing it, I would probably use the long method instead of putting it straight into leca.
Hi Nora, I love watching all your videos. These are truly instructive. I would like to know where to buy the plastic stakes that you put in the glass jars with water to support the plants.
Which ones? the black ones? If it is them, they come with the plants.
Nicely done Nora!
Thank you.
I am just starting to experiment with Lecca. I love your your channel!!!
Awesome! Thank you!
I love the rabbits foot fern along with its tarantula looking rhizomes. I have mine potted in pure orchid bark at the moment, as they are epiphytic. Good to know it works well in Leca. Thanks for another informative video!!!! ❤
You are very welcome!
Thanks for the info. I have this plant and its drying out. Do have the update? Didn't the leca work?
Watch this video for an update: kzread.info/dash/bejne/e6eJsc18gNPclsY.html, I have now put it in pon and dare I say it is doing heaps better, for now anyway!
How did you know it was ready to be moved?? Maybe I missed it
All the new roots.
I never thought I’d be a fern person and now they’re a favorite. The rabbit foot is so cool. And yours is such a lovely one.
They are right!! Nature has so much to offer with beauty all around!!
Whats the point of doing this when the risk of losing the plant is high?
Interesting question. It goes back to why I use leca and not potting mix. The risk of loosing the plant is not high, that is a misconception. If the transfer is done right the plant will thrive. My plants grow better, bigger, healthier in leca, fewer pests, it is reusable and so much cleaner 😀.
I lost more plants to failed hydroponics transfers than I did to pests. Ususally the entire root system will go bye bye. Nowadays I only use rooted cutting in semi hydro. As for pests plants in hydro will still get thrips, spider mites and mealy bugs.
@AcrylDame I am sorry that that was your experience. We all have different ones and thankfully transfers work for me. And yes, for sure pests, when I say fewer I certainly don't mean no pests. 😊
Epiphyte ferns do best when they are mounted.
I have one living in soil under a dome. He is doing good but limited progress...let me try this. Thanks!
Mine lives in soil in the shade and grows just fine as long as I keep it moist. One of the few true low-light plants.
All the best 👍
Sorry to say... But Leca tends to fu§& up the ph - mineral substrate more stable.
Thanks for watching
what ever happened with your silver sword 🤔 was it a successful transformation. I would love to know how it turned out.😊
Silver sword was great, growing really well on the moss pole, I just got tired of it and got rid of it.
@TheLecaQueen oh. that's too bad. I would've loved to see it. I'm thinking of putting my water propagation of my silver sword in leca. my mother plant died off, and I put what was salvageable in water to root. after seeing your intro on the silver sword, I felt confident enough to leca it up and hope for the best. I still may do it. I'm just not sure if I want to put it on a moss pole. I live in a small apartment. don't have the space for something to grow that big. lol
The leaves on my ZZ are shinny and green, but at their base where they meet the stem there is a hard brown crust. Is this and infestation or disease? How should I treat it? Thank you.
When I try the long method , either all the roots rot and the plant dies or the middle of the stems start to rot. How do I avoid that? Thanks.
do you have any pictures you can show me?
@@TheLecaQueen I have one picture currently for now. I do have a video of a few cuttings that were rooting in water and about two that had soil roots (rotted) but grew water roots but it shows the middle of the stem rotting.
Please show them on the semi hydroponics with the leca queen Facebook page
@@TheLecaQueen thank you, I will do that now 🙏
i need to try, and have you tried, the medical liquids drip bags, which some plant enthusiasts are now using to drip water plants that benefit from that?
I have not I really just can't be bothered to be honest.
That’s Right. My favorite 3 plants are in Lechuza Pots. I offen talk about my Philodendron El Choco Red on a moss pole with Philodendrons: Micans, Camposportoanums,, Verrucosums and Syngonium Rayii. They cover the moss pole. All in a large Lechuza Pot, the forever home. My Mother’s Day Gift, Yea! 👍🏾Video. Love MoM in the video. Pot on a dolly. I’m June in my Junegle. 🪴Happy Planting🌿
Happy planting June!
I can’t afford to get distilled water for all of this. Can I use my aquarium neutralizer to clear up the water?
This video has loads full of information. I grow a few plants in Leca now. I have listen to your videos. Like you said these are suggestions based on your atmosphere. It worked for me. Thanks. I’m June in my Junegle. 🪴Happy Planting🌿

My Ivy plants have a white powder on them and the leaves leak water, please help
I have no words Nora.....You are one gutsy woman!!! I was getting so overwhelmed with you needing a hand 😂 but you did it!! Omgoodness!! No leaf loss. If anyone could do it, you could. 😅 When it started to fall, I was yelling at the TV, "QUICK QUICK AHHH." Well, now I am totally inspired. Even though I knew what you were going to do before this video came out, I was trying to get the gumption to actually transition my FLF. It's half the size of yrs in a 250 mil pot. Do you think it would be ok with a heat mat and growlights for Winter or should I leave it till late Spring? 🤔
Hey Deborah, I know right! It was overwhelming. I would do it if I were you so by the time spring comes it is good to go.
I have never been a fiddle leaf fig fan, but I am impressed by the size of yours. So many struggle with this plant. Good luck with the transition into Leca. I have watched one of your videos of past, regarding planting hoyas using aluminum rods covered in jute. Could you please do a video on how to cover with jute.
Is clonex pro start the same as clonex clone solution? Thats all I can find in the UK and have been using it hoping its just a different name!
Good job! But one question: what would happen if the light source doesn't come from the top but from the side? I can't own big plants like this or bird of paradise because they don't grow vertically, because the sunlight comes from the side, I have a balcony above mine... :(
Just a quick note: peppermint oil is highly toxic to cats. This is just a friendly warning. In fact, if you have cats, look up the list of dangerous essential oils. It might surprise you. Neem oil is okay in moderation.
Thank you for that.
THANK YOUUU THANK YOU thank youuuu 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 I have been searching for information about leca and nothing NOTHING has been as comprehensive as your video. Thank you sooooo much 🙏🏼
This is very helpful. As I saw a Ficus Shivierana at Bunnings today and I want her lol. Thank you!
Wow Nora what a whopper. Can't wait for the "my FLF" has out grown my house video 🤣. This pot certainly won't be taken to the sink for a flush. Two questions. 1/ Currently being winter in Melbounre my plants are not drinking as much. I usually change out the reservoirs every two weeks. Clearly with larger plants I would prefer not to have to lift them. Do you just give it less water in the reservoir or do you just fill it and wait for it to be used up. 2/ Being in such a large pot even with the added wicks do you like to water from the top over the Leca so the plant can draw from the Leca or do you only fill using the water gauge spot.
I love that your fiddle leaf fig is one of your most special plants. I have a collection of rare, beautiful, plants, and I will say that my fiddle leaf fig is one of my absolute most favorite plants that I own. This plant has my heart. When those leaves upsize... such JOY. I actually have mine sitting next to it's new forever home, and I've been putting off repotting it. Thank you so much for the inspiration to tackle this project. Now you've got me debating as to if I should repot to Leca. <3
Oh, the things you do for us!
Just for you!😍
Thank you for this. I’ve been growing my plants in water based nutrient solution for a few months now and I’ve just found the courage to try leca. ❤
Glad it was helpful!
