Hi, My name is James T. Kilroy, I go by Jay. I live in Mississippi and I am primarly involved in the creation and use of data collection instrumentation focused on water issues, both quality and flow.
This channel is me playing in my man cave. Metal working, using lathes, mills, shapers etc. A little welding, but not much. A lot of my shop work is to support my business, some for paying customers, some for free customers "buddy-do's" and some just for fun. My email is below, please feel free to drop me a line. If you want to communicate via snail mail, drop me a line and I will send you a mailing address.

I bought 2 of these because of those reviews. I intend to give an honest review after a few months of use
Still using mine after all this time, still great
Why do you say that shars made it? Isn't Aventor the brand? Or is it a sub brand of Shars?
that's a huge tool post. love case colors. I collect old double barrel shotguns. makes me appreciate damascus and case colors.
how do you figure its 50% more expensive when there is only a ten dollar price difference? its actually like a 9 percent difference I didn't do the math but its nowhere near 50%
Hi Jim, How come you stopped posting videos regulary? I see your on a Wind Hill Foundry video just posted recently. I miss the Feed the monster & your Shop videos!
Saw you helping out at Windy Hill!! You coming back soon?
Just found your channel and Subscribed. Very interesting. Nice work
Another viewer tells me he spied you, he thought you were no longer around.
Glad to see you
Am I the only one who saw your presence at Windy Hill?
Possibly, headed back this weekend to assist again
what kind of lathe model is that?
Would it pay to put a spot face where the adjustment screws contact the boss on the back plate? I think it would. Am i wrong?
Looks like a copyof a Horger and Gassler german indicator stand. HG is a beast
Very good to see you sir.
I don't bother with square holes. Just take the size of the square tool bit and multiply that by the square root of 2 and drill THAT size and you're done. It is just as stable and I'd say even MORE stable than a square hole. 1/4" bit needs a .3535 min hole.
James, may I ask where can I acces the rod bender plans? I would like to make one
oxtool.blogspot.com/2012/08/rod-bender.html
I have a "704.064.2 - Stop switch actuator" that is dead... I removed all the HV systems, but now I need to short the wiring to be able to "skip" this... how can I do so?
I just received on of these in great condition from my workplace. We were cleaning out some cabinets of things that are no longer needed. I think this will help me on some of my small engine projects. It will be great in my home shop. Also, love the 1020 in the back!
Great content we are getting ready to take concrete window sills for our Strawbale house.
FYI ALL - A "Maker" license for SolidWorks is now available for $10 / mo, PLEASE read the license terms carefully, they cap how much $$$ you can make from its usage ...
Us that not the Noga MG61003? The DG61003 is slightly more light duty one,but that is the heavy duty one you have?
Sure miss the videos
Video sucks
Thanks for the video man! I've been wanting to get another mag base indicator stand lately to have an extra but indecisive what to get. Looks like the Shars is a good unit!
Good video James. -----Doozer
Mr Kilroy, I enjoyed the video as I plan on getting one myself for my home shop soon. Looking forward to the next video I like that you had the kids helping you, start them young, not enough kids picking the trades as a career.
Glad to see you back I'm from the old school and enjoy watching how others do the work. Haven't watched Abom 79 since he is going CNC because it doesn't interest me.
Great to see you back on the bike and to see you all well looking forward to the shop update.
Hello guy i use only Japanese precision tools why quality yes they are expensive but they well made!
If I'm not mistaken much of the Shars catalog is made in Taiwan, or rather, the Republic of China. Usually much more consistent quality than Communist China but still cheap! Kind of like Japan in the 80s. Eventually a Taiwanese firm might build a reputation like some Japanese companies have and go head to head on price with American and European companies.
I'll tell you this honestly, this is the truth. I own both Shars and Mitutoyo measuring tools, a fair investment in both brands. Is the Shars the same quality as the Mity? No. Is it really damn close? Yes. As in so close, that is normal use, you are never going to tell. That Shar's mag base holder that I talk about in this video is every bit as good as any Noga I have ever owned. This video is now three years old and that same exact unit is still working as well as the day I got it.
Missed your videos- great to see you back. Best wishes from Wichita.
Great to hear from you. Ya were missed.
Jay, its great to see you again! Hope all is well, thanks for the video!
Lots of ways to skin a cat. I would have just run a bolt in the threaded hole grabbed it in the chuck tightened it up and used the lathe to turn the ledge it would have been much less fiddly than getting it setup on the rotary table. 🤠
Hows it going Mr. Block! Long time no chat. I did start out intending to do that. However I did not have any 1 x 12 tpi bolts or rod, hard to believe right? I had FEET of 1 x 8! And rather than turn one for this use, the rotab got the nod.
@@jtkilroy Make do with what ya got! 🙂
Great video! Great to see you here with us again! And great hair as usual! So jealous!
Good to see you back! Looking forward to the next one...glad you're ok...
Awesome…enjoyed the build/discussion along with the update….looking forward for more…
Looking forward to seeing updates on your building and hopefully seeing you at the bash. Welcome back.
Went to the bash three years ago. Since I wasn’t one of the “gang” I felt like a third wheel. Long ways to drive from Montana just the have Famous Dave’s food. Wasn’t for me.
hey welcome back!
Glad you're back looking forward to more videos thank you sir.👍👍👍
Great to see you back, you've been missed !
Great to see you again, James. Your words about doing work like the puller are so true. None of the local shops really want or have the time to do jobs like that. I’ve stopped by a couple of well-known shops in the area and introduced myself, and left cards there. Those shop owners are more than happy to send odd jobs, one offs, and prototype stuff my way. One in particular is a guy restoring some 60’s vintage mail order race cars. I can’t tell you how many parts and special tooling I’ve made for him. Anyway, it’s good to have you back and I’m looking forward to the shop update video you mentioned. Be well.
Thanks for the post James, always good to hear from you.
Glad you are back on the web. sure missed your stuff.
Great to see you back, excellent video as a bonus.
Good to hear from you James!
Great to see you back doing videos thank you
Glad to see you back
wow, I saw this and stopped to watch it before all others. Glad to see you again.
Great to see you back, James. I see that you are a man of great taste and that you dip your chips in guacamole (I'm guessing Anchorlube).
Anchorlube is good stuff, better with stainless than carbon steels, but totally usable. Its great with taps, as it sticks so well. In a pinch you can wash your hands with it as well.
