Universal Vise #2

#KilroysShop
Quick turn around on the Universal Vise. I have come to find out that it is a "Universal Vise and Tool" product. The largest size they made I understand. Lets get it put back together and discuss the found issues.

I just received on of these in great condition from my workplace. We were cleaning out some cabinets of things that are no longer needed. I think this will help me on some of my small engine projects. It will be great in my home shop. Also, love the 1020 in the back!

Keith Rucker's Vintage Machinery.org site has a short write up on the company: Universal Tool&Vise, Parma, MI. Also one photo that looks just like Jay's. Apparently this company had a number of names over the years.

Funky looking vise, but man, is it a versatile one. Pity it's not in production anymore, but good that it wound up in your hands, i'd hate to see it ruined by someone with no experience or chucked in the scrap bin.

James, I have two of these and rebuilt both. You are missing the retention springs on both sets of gybs. Do you need the specs for those? They keep the gybs from moving and binding when the axis is loose. Also provides a little resistance so the vice is easier to adjust without going completely loose. Universal Vise Co.

Keep hoping ill heal or a new pain Dr will kill the right nerves in the right spot. Nothing worse then pain puts a big strapping man of 265lbs and 6'4" tall. Nerve Nerve

Don't take this the wrong way Sillverbullet, like James I hope that you make a full recovery and soon, but it sounds to me that you may be somewhat over weight. 210 pounds would be a lot better, and it may also help your pain issue.

@@jtkilroy Sounds to me that your shop is really high in moisture content. Maybe that is why the big strapping man has some problems ??? Dampness is proven to cause all sorts of ailments. Good luck and heal fast.

@@jtkilroy Great find, will you take $50? Joking, joking. I've been looking for the right one for my Rockwell mill for sometime and it just hasn't turned up yet. It's a small mill so finding one that's the right size and robust enough for milling oh and not $1000 well it's difficult.

Oh, I have a Mig setup that I have had for 20 years, and those clamps are not new either. They are the best clamps I have ever had, Bessey. The finish, I guess powder coat, is tough as nails. Drop them on the floor, throw them across the table, no chips, scratches, nothing. Only downside is they are expensive.
