Falconry - Hunting wild quarry with trained birds-of-prey. My channel is about giving you a preview into the raptors elusive world. Falconry is not a hobby but a way of life that involves continuous learning, problem solving, hard work and dedication; one which though deeply satisfying is also highly demanding. My aim is to allow people to witness birds-of-prey doing what they do naturally in the wild.

I'm out for hours most days in the winter with a video camera trying to get footage showing a snippet of their elusive lives, which normally involves being tired, soaking wet and freezing cold. Please consider supporting us on Patreon.

I run a small business that offers clients private experience days which subsidises my passion for falconry. Please take a look at my website: www.hawkinsfalconry.co.uk

Thanks very much

Nigel Hawkins

    I have been looking so much into getting myself a Harris hawk. Gaining as much knowledge as possible. I just say this is the best video I have seen in regards to Harris hawks 👍🏻 can I ask who the breeder of your bird was please.

    We have a pair near us, I hope its a pair. Took film of one in 97 and captured the never to be forgotten sound. Last year 2023 took film (only Sony camera) of fairly huge hawks near us in summer and autumn. This spring heard the same sound and actually had one displayng right behind us wings outstretched staring ahead!

    To me these birds are an eagle version of a goshawk. A cross between one would be lethal, but to be fair both species are so awesome I doubt a cross would make them any better such are the high standards of both birds

    Wow. What an educational video with words not being spoken. It is a better way to teach by visually showing the student. I learned how to raise an eagle and to teach him how to hunt all in under an hour. Thanks, buddy. Now I don't have to pay for those lessons. I'm on my way to go purchase a gold eagle egg now

    Good video clips, but egad! What's with the dramatic sound effects? I'd rather hear the commands, flush and even some explanation of how you set up the flush over beating drums and a loud orchestra.

    btw...the 'intro' is incredible! Dave Sharpe has talked about how a well-trained and well-conditioned Harris's is an incredible hawk, and you certainly show this here! I get the impression that Harris's are not only good 'performers', but seem to have tremendous intelligence, well beyond what one expects of 'instinct', and also look to be real "partners" with falconer, and other "team members". It must be a real pleasure to work (and play?) with your hawk?

    Hello my friend, can you tell me about this bird’s behavior and characteristics? Is it really a punishment whose instinct controls it, and is it considered an unfaithful bird? In your opinion, which is better in terms of loyalty, is the Imperial Eagle or Bonelli'?

    With this type of training, the goshawk does not end up becoming independent from the falconer with the risk of loss and that he realizes that he no longer depends on us. all the best

  • @hawkinsfalconry
    @hawkinsfalconry Жыл бұрын

    @@bulhar1973 Just a question of time spent in the field. Quite easy to do if you’re out in the field all the time and analyse their behaviour and more importantly concentrate on obedience once per week to keep them from becoming too independent. Good land and glove flying for a couple of years first to let them know what the human is for and they will actively follow-on no problem at all. We specialised in catching pigeons on a regular basis following-on in woodland. Absolutely spectacular flights and their fitness is as if wild. Essentially I’m flying a wild bird then taking him home for a safe news with a full crop everyday. To witness a trained bird that’s given the opportunity to live a life as close to wild and have the time to fly most days sure is a huge privilege. Thanks
