Zuko's anger is what keeps him from falling into depression. Oftentimes depression in anger turned inward. So the anger is a survival mechanism because it keeps him functioning. I was in that state for years.

Bro that ending scene with Zuko was always such a tearjerker for me. Crazy thing, I've actually seen react channels LAUGH at that scene.

I love the little parallels and emotional details you pick up on. Also nothing hit my little 12 year old brain quite like seeing Zuko scream at god for the first time

First off, love the title 😂 Iroh is right in saying that about Azula. She shot him last episode and she was going to kill Zuko with lightning in the first episode. You’d be amazed on few Azula stans on Tumblr throwing Iroh under the bus.

I love how there's so much history and culture to learn about all four of the elements, that both tie into the element itself and also the people of said element and tribe. It makes the whole world feel that much more alive and engaging, everything flows together so well and there's always something new to learn about each tribe and element

Literally yesterday I was talking ATLA with a friend when she declared Zuko was the original Emo 😄

One of my favorite episodes, love the Aang / Zuko parallels & Iroh of course. ATLA is so good from here (actually from The Blind Bandit) to the end. Great reaction, thanks.

Toph unironically brings stability to the show. Season 1 is good, but it is just.... missing something. That something turns out to be Toph.

These bending styles take a lot of inspiration from legitimate martial arts; philosophy-wise I see air-bending as being kung Fu, avoid and redirect, whereas earth is more like karate, being an immoveable wall until directly opposed, etc.

I'd say avoid and redirect would be more Tai chi-ish. Although it's actually based on Bagua. Firebending is northern shaolin kung fu though

Who is making crazy stuff for the Fire Nation? Well we have already met the Mechanist in Book 1, who turned the Northern Air Temple into his crazy Steampunk laboratory, with his son, who is wheelchair bound but can fly with a glider like Aang. He tried to hide the fact that he was working for them. Ultimately the Fire Nation discovered the broken hot air balloon invention. Who knows how many similar mad scientists they have haha :)
