Also: - Turns out the Oscar Polls that gave "biggest cheer moment" and "fan favorite movie" awards to the Snyder Cut... hacked by bots. - And the "ReleaseTheSnyderCut" movement on Twitter... had about 25K bots inflating their ranks. And this is why you can't count on Twitter for jack.

Gonna be honest, i didn't know about Zack's daughter until I saw this video, and that makes the entire scuffle with the Snyder cut so much worse... I'm no parent but I can't think of many worse ways to lose your child, than suicide. And it saddens me to know that because of the consequence of his loss, this horrible tragedy will not be remembered as the suicide of his daughter, but instead as "what ruined my favorite movie". To some degree I can only imagine how bad or gross Snyder must feel, knowing that his daughter's suicide will now be eternally linked to a series of films the geek community obsessed over to the point of online civil war on twitter. I don't care for Snyder or his films but I honestly wish him the best after this loss, and I hope his daughter is in a better place now. They both deserve her suicide to be remembered for what it is, not as a catalyst for a divisive DC film release.

I think the biggest problem with both versions of these movies is simply that they're a 'Team' story where most of the team feel like extras. Outside of Flash's arbitrary come and go reset sequence, two thirds of the story is just the characters losing until they decide to bring the guy who makes all of them useless back to win the day. Justice Leauge stories in other mediums understood that they had to give all of the team members something to do that wasn't just beating up minions to make it feel like their inclusion is more than just an extra set of hands. My biggest 'Shouldn't be a big deal but bothers me to no end' nitpick is that Darkseid never does his iconic pose at any point in his screen time. Dude should be standing regal and above it all because any resistance is a temporary distraction, not hunched over like a brute ready for a fist fight. Also, you gotta love how Snyder's supposed plot for the potential sequels would imply Batman lets an innocent pregnant woman die because he didn't know the child she was carrying was his.

This was definitely worth the wait! I quite enjoyed the 2017 version on first release, but watching it after the ZS version makes its flaws and compromises more obvious, the Snyder Cut is the better version but honestly I think the best version of this would be a 2.5-3 hour movie that used what worked from both iterations. It'll never happen though, my headcanon is the 4:3 aspect ratio was done to make a fanedit combining the two versions basically impossible

A few fun facts before I get into my points about this movie: #1: The cop at 13:25 is played by Marc McClure, the original Jimmy Olson from Superman (1978). I guess this was supposed to be some kind of half-assed apology on Snyder's part for killing the DCEU Jimmy Olson in his last movie. #2: Approximately 24 minutes of this 240 minute movie is comprised of slo-mo. Literally 1/10 of this movie could have been trimmed by knocking it off with the slo-mo. But oh, we would have missed out on so much if we didn't see a dog barking or a sesame seed falling in slo-mo. #3: That body at 1:16:57 is supposed to be Kilowog. Not that you would be able to tell since that would assume you know about Green Lanterns and the color palette is so muted you can't tell a GREEN Lantern is wearing GREEN. Doubly so for Martian Manhunter. Did Snyder think seeing a fan favorite as a dismembered corpse would be "fun" too? #4: The final Knightmare sequence was filmed in Snyder's backyard, hence the horrendous cinematography. Still don't know why he did that for Army of the Dead. So that was Zack Snyder's Justice League. 4 years of speculation, fan campaigning, harassment, and death threats in the making, and it all ends on a sequel tease that Snyder himself said would likely not happen. ... You mean to tell me, he *knew* this was never getting a follow-up, and he STILL ended it on a cliff hanger? Incoming rant in 3 2 1 You know what gets me the most about the Snyder Cut getting released? Think of all the other superhero projects that were prematurely canned before they could wrap up. Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 4, Guillermo Del Toro's Hellboy 3, The Spectacular Spider-Man TV series, Rocksteady and WB Montreal's proposed Superman games etc. But THIS is the project that was resurrected. Why was the most mediocre one of these by the most mediocre of these directors given a second chance? Why? WHY?! Why is HE the only director who gets multiple chances despite screwing it up on every occasion?! And why do all these stupid nerds and film buffs keep kissing his ass despite him being an incompetent storyteller?! I JUST WANT A DC CINEMATIC UNIVERSE I CAN LOVE AS MUCH AS MARVEL!!!! [Insert angry Arnold noises here.] BTW This is some cast you got here for that last scene. Let's round it up. Ben "I am so done with this shit" Affleck Ezra "The Assailant" Miller Amber "The Abuser" Heard Ray "I'm never working with WB again" Fisher Jared "Sex Cult Island Leader" Leto Joe "Why am I here" Manganiello and Henry "God I wish I could actually play Superman" Cavill Yeah, the Snyderverse is never coming back.' Also fuck that "Bruce Kent" idea. P.S. I meant nothing negative towards Miles in my rant. I was mainly referring to the insane cultists. Miles is cool.

ZSJL is honestly a release I am so conflicted on. For context, I find Zack Snyder a very frustrating director because as an idea guy and a visual director he busts out some insanely awesome stuff and there is plenty I enjoy from him. I like the Dawn of the Dead remake, although I've grown colder on it as time has gone on I liked Man of Steel and you know what? I'll say it I love Army of the Dead and it has become one of my top favorite new zombie movies. But he's so frustrating because I feel like a lot of his creativity is often not executed well and that is especially apparent with the DCEU. While I enjoyed Man of Steel? I hated both cuts of Batman v Superman. It was the first film where I left a theater pissed off and deflated and so I had barely any hope for Justice League. Then everything changed and we got the Joss Whedon cut and honestly I kind of like it. It was definitely a mess but there are plenty of elements I like about it such as how Superman finally felt like the character I adored. I was... intrigued by the idea of seeing an alternate cut and when it comes to the legitimate fans of Snyder who were just decent people who wanted to see come to fruition after the hell WB put him through? It was awesome to see them get a win and to get a chance to watch both cuts, especially with the good that was done like raising money for suicide prevention and the movie itself was honestly the best Zack Snyder DC film I've seen. The characters were well defined, the movie didn't look over-saturated to hell, I liked Steppenwolf this time around, seeing the black suit was cool, it was great to see Aquaman be portrayed with much more dignity and not as a bro like he was in the Whedon version and... screw it I love the sequence where Flash turns back time. Getting to see that in live-action especially with the cool shot of Superman reforming as time is rewound was so damn cool. But I was so drained by the time it came out, so utterly sick of hearing about it that when it ended, I wasn't excited so much as I thought "Oh thank fuck it's over." because for all the good the movement did? There was so much toxicity that permeated that people tend to sweep under the rug or try to argue wasn't a problem because not every fan behaved like that. It was however still loud and obnoxious and it dominated discussion because those kinds of fans made it a mission to dominate discussion and unfortunately those guys were never called out. WB and Zack Snyder never made a statement to denounce these people, to make it clear that their behavior is garbage, unwelcome and does not reflect the thoughts and desires of Snyder fans and film fans in general and as a result? The DCEU fandom is not only a clusterfuck but also DC discussion itself is tiring. It's like how Star Wars became after The Last Jedi's release. Regardless of whether agree, disagree or just don't care? You will feel so exhausted just taking a look at the discussions.

It's basically a collection of introductions and promises for something big and epic but it never actually gets going and when I heard that it's because we're gonna get an extended R-rated cut? I raised my middle finger and groaned because he pulled the same shit he did with BvS and what happened with his cut of JL.

Snyder's Batman using guns and apparently killing comes from him not understanding a scene from the Dark Knight Returns. For those unfamiliar, it's a short scene where Batman grabs a rifle from a knocked out goon and shooting a hostage taker in the shoulder to save a kid from getting shot in the head. The guy that got shot didn't die, Bruce states quite a few times that he doesn't kill and that's the only time he uses a gun. Snyder missed the entire point of the scene, thinking that it meant this Batman being happy to kill

Early on, you learn who Jake Conway was, his background, his motivations, and his goal in the plot. You even get a better sense of the villains and stakes. Sure, "Ride To Hell" was ridiculously drawn out to 3X the length of one viewing of "Justice League", but at least the plot TRIED to go somewhere.

This felt like a much more balanced review of the movie than it seemed to be in the lead up to it because of just how toxic some fans can be. I appreciate it and I liked that you gave me a reason to look at the positives of Whedon's version. I had my perception of it tainted by just how bad Whedon could be towards the actors and thinking the film was just fine when I saw it the first time but I liked you pointing out some of the better things Whedon added to his version of the film. I don't personally want a Snyderverse to continue because I am content with seeing this kind of cut finally make it to screens. I just personally hope that The Flash movie isn't going to try and do a massive reboot of everything because with how Ezra Miller is like currently putting them as the main character who's story radically shifts every movie previously released can only lead to a mess. Especially if the rumors I have heard are true where The Flash may be trying to do Flashpoint using General Zod as a focal villain. Enjoyed the review and wonder if you have seen the Donner Cut of Superman 2? Not in like a "review this!" But more in a questioning of if you have. Hope the editing on this wasn't a nightmare.

Hey, I just thought of a few more things. 1) Do they ever bother to explain how the hell Clark Kent is alive again despite being listed in the obituaries as a casualty of Doomsday? 2) Steppenwolf definitely looks better here in terms of CGI but the design itself is just so stupid. H.R. Giger should be the last person you look to for designing super hero stuff. I mean, have you SEEN his batmobile design for Batman Forever? 3) The Justice League animated series also had a moment where Flash tapped into the Speed Force to save the day and defeat Luthor/Brainiac. Except there it had consequences since he almost died from pushing himself past his limits and it took his friends to save him from being lost to the Speed Force. In the Snyder Cut there is zero repercussions for him doing this so what's stopping him from just rewinding time to fix any problem all the time? Also, why couldn't the Flash have yellow lightning as opposed to blue? The blue lightning just blends in with all the grey in this movie.

If there's one thing the Snyder Cut affirmed for me, it's that Zack Snyder's style of filmmaking isn't really for me. He's not a terrible director, but his style of writing and presentation bring his movies down IMO, especially his DC movies. I'd still say MoS is my favorite of his pseudo-Superman trilogy, mostly because it isn't 4 hours long. If the Snyder Cut was 3 hours instead of 4, it could've been my favorite of Snyder's DC movies. I have a friend who's very pro-Snyder; he's not a cultist like a lot of Zack Snyder's fans are, but sometimes given the cult's behavior, it gets difficult for me to see people who like the man as nothing more than sycophants. I'm glad you got someone who likes Snyder's movies in this review, because I know his style has its fans, and that this person isn't a crazy psychopath. It reminded me that not all of Zack Snyder's fans are insane.

Snyder is very much a "director-director." He's someone who, if given a decent script written by someone else, can turn out a decent product (Dawn of the Dead, 300, Watchmen). But the second he takes a stab a writing his own films it all comes tumbling down (BvS, Sucker Punch, Army of The Dead).

As far as the Superman turning evil thing....from what I've heard that is more of the case of Superman being influenced by the Anti-Life Equation as the grief left him vulnerable rather than Superman actually turning evil as you are saying. That being said, that version has its own issues and like the Injustice games....I just don't buy that a symbol of hope like Superman would fall from grace so easily as it just comes off as writers missing the point of the whole "one rotten day can turn a man into a monster" line from "Batman: The Killing Joke" as within the context of that story the point is that The Joker is wrong as the likes of Batman and Jim Gordan do not fall under the Joker's horrible acts.............in which I say Superman is just as capable of the same feats as Batman as far as not giving in to such horrors.

But yeah while I like this film more than you, I do agree that the less Snyder was involved in the DCEU....it mostly turned out for the better with their more "standalone" approach to their stories and willing to bridge out into different tones and styles that would not have been possible under Snyder (or Feige within the MCU to be honest) and it generally worked in their favour in which it resulted in one of the better films in "Shazam!", the highest grossing DC based film of all-time in "Aquaman", the highest grossing R rated film in "Joker", one of their better films in "The Suicide Squad" (which is one of their better streaming successes). Sure not all of it was a success, but at least I have a "all you can eat buffet" like fee with DC films which was not the case with the Snyder era.

Also, isn't it nice how after all the criticism he received for having his heroes kill people Snyder still had the League brutally murder Steppenwolf as opposed to just knocking him through the portal and having Darkseid vaporize him with his Omega Beams? Also, since the character of Barry Allen is identified as he/him I'm pretty sure it's okay for you to refer to Flash with male pronouns, whereas Ezra Miller identifies as non-binary. It's like with Elliot Page, you can refer to his roles pre-transition as female, but you refer to the actor as male.

I personally saw the Whedon cut to be a mood-swinging mediocre mess with corporate mandates dumped all over it, but it at least felt short and felt the most like a proper DC film than the others. Of course it doesn't mesh at all with the others in that regard, but the dark tone never really worked with me anyway. This one was basically the same except wayyyy more boring with only small ingots of cool stuff sprinkled in for like half a minute each. Even with all the time they had, the film still felt super disorganized and messy. Worse, imo, it was pretty boring. Whedon's cut was dumb, but shit was actually _happening_ and it didn't have glacial pacing lmfao.

Let’s have this be a final goodbye to the mess that is the dceu and here’s to hoping that James gunn’s future for dc films will bring a much brighter future for dc movies

give Zack Snyder a movie that already HAD someting to tell the story, and its okay, Dawn of the Dead was a remake, 300 and Watchmen are adaptations of comics/graphic novels, but you let him direct something that is basically something Original, and it crashes like 9/11

Technically the Dawn of the Dead remake is different storywise to its 1970d counterpart; but that’s just a nitpick I want to point out

In my opinion, Zack Snyder's Justice League turned a bad film into a slightly above average film.
