Your pencil reviews has caused me to go dig out my old pencil box. Did not realize how fascinating they can be.

I was curious when I saw the title if they had a smell...but no, but they did seem to write very smoothly. Thanks for sharing

Outstanding review. I love your theory that they had called the pencil “cedar” it seems a popular burger chain got in trouble many years ago for selling “all beef patties” that were actually loaded with fillers but sold by a company called “all beef”. I don’t know if that story is true. But it is fun to tell. Thanks for the excellent video!

Hi MAMO - wonderful review! Well, I think you sold me on these. I've seen the Youva pencil around online but have been reluctant to try it, but based on the performance here - and comparison to the other naturals - it looks like a pencil I would enjoy using! Thanks so much!

Nice review. For a ₹10 pencil, a faint cedar smell is more than enough for us in India! Can you make a short review on the worst writing pencils you have got (like top 3 or top 5)? It would be fun to watch. Please.

@@ma-mo It is up to you! If you think there are such. I have a hotel pencil that is so scratchy and light (gritty clay with 5% graphite?), that it is a pain to write with, and the non wood casing is horrible. No idea who manufactured it. The only marking on it is "THE PRIDE HOTELS".

What a pleasant surprise, another good inexpensive pencil that writes well. I love those. If this unmarked Youva is an Asian pencil for Asian markets, it's a safe bet that it's 2B. A fellow from Malaysia once told me that 2B is all that there is on the usual stationery shops of his country, with HB nowhere to be seen. It's probably regarded as specialised writing equipment, like most #H grade pencils and leads are for us. A shame if you ask me, because I love HB. 2B IMO is too smudgy and has too much potential to make a mess if you touch the writing, and it's also a little too slippery. I like a modicum of friction when I put pencil to paper, it's pleasant feedback and helps me control the applied pressure. Cedar is a group denomination, and this is probably an Asian continental species of it. IIRC Japan has its own species of cedar that they make pencils out of, though I'm not sure if it's American cedar brought in and grown locally. Anyone with insider knowledge feel free to correct me. Whatever the case, this is better than balsa or eucalyptus, so I'm on board. Speaking of Field Notes, do you have a review on it? I know Kevin does, but I'd love to hear _your_ input as well.

@DrGero15 It was overly long, in desperate need of editing, contained errors of fact, and was not informative. I couldn't in good conscience keep it up on my channel.

Is a number 2 held to the same standards across the globe as far as the lead and test taking etc.?

Definitely not. Not even within the same country. It would be nice to have some sort of standardization, for sure.

What would be your recommendation(s) for a good easily accessible bible marking pencil?

Excellent question! For me, light/firm graphite is best for making notations in books. Especially with Bibles: nothing I'm writing in the margins is more important than the actual text, and shouldn't be darker/bolder than the Bible's print. So, like an F or H grade. Maybe 2H. That, or one of the plastic-extruded pencils (Bic and Staedtler both make them currently).
