Love the comparison of these, MAMO. I have noticed in the smaller packs the new color. I was at a store recently that still had the older stock mixed in and the color difference was stark. I'll bet PaperMate uses that same size box of a number of products and just changes the printing on the cardboard to suit the contents, which is why it seems larger than necessary for the Sharpwriters. Another example of how big corporations find ways to save money. I've never seen a Non-Stop so it was fun to see them up close. Thanks for another fun review!

That makes sense, about the boxes. More cost in cardboard per box, but keeping the same production line for lots of product packaging likely makes that up, and then some. Thanks, Kevin!

@@ma-mo Cardboard is cheap, calibrating the cutting machine to cut different sizes isn't.

Always interesting..all I can say is I've always like twisting action over clicking. I use mostly standard #2 sharpened pencils in my wood working and other hobbies. I used these type when I was in school. take care

I had heard good things about the sharpwriter, but don’t recollect trying them. I bought a package today, with multiple colors. Wow, now I can see why they are favored. There is a nice bounce/cushion when writing. The lead in the one I’m now using seems more like a B than a HB. Thank you for doing a video on these. (BTW - great article)

The 'Non-Stop' models (old stock) I've bought in England were made in the US factory in Illinois, its got the same black tip, but the eraser is white. I believe the new stock is now made in Atlanta and is identical to the new Sharpwriter models you have in the US i.e. yellow body, beige tip and pink eraser.

Now that's interesting. Thanks, blaser80. So Paper Mate could have been giving us Americans the cooler black and orange variant all along? Fiendish, I say.

I had no idea the stock lead was so long. It makes sense, but somehow I never figured someone would make lead pieces longer than 60mm. It's certainly not you that perceives the graphite as lighter, scratchier and overall cheaper, it shows clearly on the footage. And I can easily see the dissatisfaction of the average user with a pencil with graphite like that, as it's not marketed as refillable (and let's agree, being so fiddly to refill is not a good look) so in principle a bad lead is all you get. Couple that with the cheaper-looking plastic colour, and aye, Adam Savage's gripes start to make more and more sense. On a purely subjective aside here, my favourite yellow colour for stationery by far is the 'burnt' honey-mustard of the P209 Sharp and of older American wood pencils.

You're right about the color of those Pentels, for sure.

Your love for these will forever be a mystery to me ... Dont they wiggle and jiggle when they write for you? I must have just too heavy of a ham hoc hand for these.

These "anti breakage" pencils all feel spongy like that, even the expensive ones such as the Zebra DelGuard. I'm very light-handed and even I cannot stand that wobble. It's why I mainly stick with the Pentel pencils, they're notoriously firm and have tight tolerances so the lead doesn't wobble inside the sleeve.

@@DinnerForkTongue Give me a Pentel GreaphGear 500, Pentel P207, Graph for Pro 1000, Pentel Sharp Kerry every day in stead of these. .. Pentel makes pencils! But the BIC Matic Grip Mechanical Pencil are actually much, much better than these Paper Mate-twist pencils... with only óne lead... one !

@@LazyStory For sure, for sure, _for sure!_ Especially the P207 Sharp. I like that basic model so much, I have like 3 of it. But I'd take even one of their cheaper plastic Twist-Erase models over this Sharpwriter. The Bic Matic does work really well too, and it's much easier to refill than the Sharpwriter, but I don't like it. Its lead advancement clutch is extremely sloppy, so when I need to advance the lead I have to keep adjusting it and it's *always* a trial-and-error affair.

Gosh, no love here for the simple Sharpwriter? Sure they wiggle a bit, but what's a little wiggling between friends? I simply prefer a robust, reliable twist mechanism to a clicker of any sort.
