I've used quite a few of the Mongols in the past, always loved the classic look of them. The sound those pencils make when clanking around takes me back to my school days. For some strange reason it is comforting.

Oh no...I not going to start reading books and get hooked..my wife says I have enough hobbies lol ..I will however continue to watch your videos and support your channel and yourself. Thanks for sharing

This video confirms that Faber is Fabulous! What a fun - and amazing - variety to share with us. Many of the examples you showed were firsts for me. I have to admit that as a youngster there were something about the color of those Tinsel Tints that really did it for me. I think it was the metallic sheen they seemed to have. Thanks for a peek into your collection, MAMO!

I've always been confused about the links between Faber-Castell, Eberhard Faber, A.W. Faber, etc.,. but they've all made some great pencils. It's always a joy finding some of the more unusual ones in thrift store lots aside from the common American, EcoWriter, etc. I never liked the paint job and wood of the EcoWriter, but they had a great core. Very dark and smooth.

The FB Eco I have access to is made of "reforested" (AKA plantation-grown and not eco-friendly at all) eucalyptus. It indeed doesn't play nice with most sharpeners, it's very brittle. But the core is quite the spectacle, on par with a budget Japanese pencil. Even in HB, it's downright silky to write with, to the point where I'd compare it to Pentel's Super Hi-Polymer pacer lead.

My fascination with pencils is just like with cars. Paint or color or slight shape variations or any passive intrinsic characteristics of the sort, unless they're outlandish enough to be noteworthy outsde of the niche, don't really matter to me - my real dopamine kick comes from seeing them in use, performing the role they were meant to as machines and tools. Guess I'm not an admirer in general: I'm extremely practical and pragmatic, drier than a tumbleweed when it comes to artistic sensibility. That said, I enjoy seeing these collections because of the variety in pencil designs and applications, as thought of by the manufacturers over the years and decades, especially the unusual ones like dye or wax or early eraser-bearing ones. Pencils as a concept may not be even 200 years old yet as a whole, but they have a rich history as tools.

Some people feel quite certain that pencils (and pens and writing) will become obsolete within the next ten to twenty years. I do not think so and hope it never happens. What is your opinion?

​@@Crazytesseract There's been folks saying that ever since block printing was invented. They said that when the typewriter became popular. And again when PCs and home printers hit the market. All of them have been proven wrong, and they will continue to be proven wrong. Handwriting is simple, convenient, easy, and an excellent exercise. It may not be the pick for long form text, especially on an official or commercial capacity, anymore, but going away it is not. And remember, the more digital you become, the closer you are to being one single blackout away from ALL your critical information and notes. Folly, if you ask me.

I'm watching a documentary about Jonestown and there is a guy being interviewed. He sounds exactly the same as you. Were you at Jonestown?
