Quest idea:you have to help a copper dragon win a prank war against another copper dragon

My brain started churning out ideas for this very idea as soon as he mentioned copper dragon rivalries. I now want to send my players on a quest to steal an artifact from another copper dragon, but without telling them it's from a copper dragon, or that it's due to a rivalry. The most amusing way I can think of is the movie trope, 'it's a shell company owned by a shell company owned by another shell company....' 15 minutes later, 'owned by a shell company, owned by a copper dragon. whew.' Or that the plans and descriptions given to the players are so convoluted and messy that they can't make sense of it.

Kinda did this in my second campaign, a Great Wyrm copper had installed himself (under polymorph) as a hero for hire, who was promptly snapped up as a hireling by the group when they saw this 'Bard' in action. The group were level 4 at the time, and were subtly manipulated for a good 10 levels of gameplay to basically undermine the copper bard's potential successor to the area, dealing annoying but ultimately unharmful blows to his plans. Once the group finally twigged as to what was going on they exposed the copper 'bard' to his (comparatively) younger rival, expecting some dramatic showdown where sides would be picked and a victor declared, only to discover that the moment the ruse was presented, both dragons immediately fell about in laughter, thanked the group for 'the best distraction we have managed in centuries', and promptly flew off together. Turned out they had both been in on the joke since the beginning and had a running bet as to how long the ruse could continue, and who would be the one to first cotton on to the reality of the situation. The group never entirely forgave me for that one.

AD&D 2e's Council of Wyrms was about a society of chromatic, gem and metallic dragons, with their demihuman servants, coexisting on a continent/archipelago spanning all possible biomes, and despite the obvious tension between clans, they must work together lest Io will send another disaster at them. A good setting for a short campaign, it is said.

*Dragon lands next to you, unfurls his wings, and roars* You: *fkees* Dragon: Woah woah woah calm down it's just a prank bro! I'm a friendly dragon!

Copper dragons have two separate breath weapons. The first is a line of powerful acid, and the second is a cone of gas that slows and cramps the muscles of anyone within it. But I get what you mean. You're thinking of a copper colored Toothless from How To Train Your Dragon.

Terrify low level players by having a dragon drop from the sky right in front of them after they beat a dungeon boss. Have everyone roll initiative but have it rigged so the dragon goes first. I can imagine a copper dragon literally pulling a Uno reverse card on you the moment you say something remotely bad about them. *Copper Dragon takes a sharp breath, he knows he's losing this battle against the younger copper dragon, he looks at his opponent with a glare after a particularly savage attack on how his horns look like deer antlers, whatever a deer is. After a moment he stands majestically and reaches for a loose scale on his breast and pulls out a small square of what looks like parchment the opponent identifies it with but a single glance. An Uno Reverse card, a card from a long lost civilization that's been said to reverse time itself. With a mighty breath the older cooper dragon mutters but a single phrase.* "No u" *the young copper dragon is instantly turned to dust and the older dragon leaves with a smug smile across his face.*

I ran a campaign where a copper dragon abducted and impersonated a wealthy merchant who owned a trading company. He was extremely successful and used the money to buy all the government officials. The pcs took a few quests from him. I kept giving them subtle hints that he wasn't what he seemed... he had an obsession with fine metalwork and jewelry, hated other dragons, liked to prank the players sometimes. And he never seemed intoxicated, no matter how much wine he had.

Mason K I did something so similar. A copper dragon was a disguised old lady who ran a brewery business and a postal service. She used the postal service as a means to spy on, well, anybody she chose (nearly all the couriers were spies). Her being a criminal, mobster-like spymaster was a semi-secret surprise for the party, her being a dragon was an extra one on top. Just recently killed by my party after a year long (in game and out of game) mutual hatred between the two. Long story. Anyway, just cool that we took our copper dragons in similar directions! :)

Copper dragons are by far my favorite. They're like badass dragon ninjas! I imagine they like to taunt and humiliate their enemies like Dante from DMC. They're just here to have a good time and troll the heck out of the pcs.

Soooo... What i got out of this vídeo is that not only copper dragons are some of the coolest dragons out there, they are also basicaly the monks of the dragons

Fighting copper dragons sounds like fighting a king dedede player: taunting and infuriating to deal with

This is my fave dragon so far, it's a troll that can back it up

Anyone can ingest venom without difficulty (well, it could a bit risky if you have a cut in your mouth or perhaps a bad stomach ulcer) since it's just a protein. Venoms have to be injected in order to be effective, where as poisons must be ingested (though I think some can do both).

Yep, the only issue arises from very acidic venoms. A lot of venoms can cause chemical burns when applied to skin but they still aren't as strong as human stomach acid.

@@kyleromus6845 Also, something different from real life, is the cost of poison is D&D. It's practically daylight robbery! (also, most “poison” in D&D only poisons the victim in specific situations: consume, inhale, wound, contact, which is quite close to what you said)

Cooper's are my second favorite metallic dragon. I would love to work for a Cooper running a thieves guild.

I had an Ancient Copper Dragon named Trance that would grow all sorts of lotus plants and smoke dope while polymorphed into a wyrmling for convenience. The fighter attacked him, because Trance laughed at his request to give his adamantium armor back. Me: "How many squares is gargantuan?" Players: *shocked pikachu face*

Introduce copper dragon when the party is low level Have the dragon offer to be talking buddies in turn of defending the loot that the party accumulate Have the party become great friends with the dragon Have the dragon slowly become evil Send the party to do a lot of it’s dirty work for the sake of ‘friendship’ Wait till the party can stand a chance against the dragon Have the dragon fight against the dragon as their first XD To anyone who like this plot feel free to use it and tell me their reaction when one of their own turns against them XD

OMG when I heard the thing about them loving wine I flipped. I had a copper dragon who was an NPC guide for my party that was always drinking wine, I can't remember if I read that somewhere or if I just made it up but it put a smile on my face anyhow so thanks!

A note here that is rather important on the copper dragon meals: There is an important distinction between poison and venom. Venom is something that a scorpion injects. Poison is something that is imbibed. (I know that D&D confuses the two)

You should mention the dragons' alignment in these videos.

I had a copper dragon ally help my PCs in my first real session of D&D 3.5 a few years back. They fought it in the dark, thinking it was an enemy, before the two parties actually saw and met each othr. It all worked out though; they got the dragon drunk soon afterwards with kegs of beer XD

I wish that some other games had this level of variety in dragon attitudes and traits beyond just the generic "dragons are ancient and beyond approach". I mean some types are, but the nice thing about DnD is that even amongst one species of dragon, there can still be some understandable variance in personality.

Played a half-copper dragon bard a few years back without even knowing half of his lineage was a bard by nature. Guess I played up that part of his identity pretty well.

I love this series. It inspires me every episode. Just from this video alone I have an entire story brewing in my head that I’m going to write down for my campaign. Having my players come across a charismatic individual who they come to believe is just a bard reveals that he’s apart of the local thieves guild that runs under the city. He will be sarcastic and always have a smile about him. The players will be under the impression that he is just a lower ranking guild member who introduces them to the guilds “higher-ups” in hopes that they could find some work. If they follow this story long enough, and gain the charismatic bards respect they would eventually be told they could meet the guilds leader. They would be escorted through the city’s underbelly and its various cave systems, until reaching their destination. Where they’d see the same sarcastic bard who they had befriended some time ago. He’d invite them to some drinks and ask for a few good tales they have made along their journey before revealing himself to be a copper dragon, and the leader of the organization they have been working for. They would undoubtedly ask why he pretended to be a lower ranking goof, and he would explain that when he gets to know the people who work for him personally and they think he’s of no importance, he learns a persons true colors a lot more effectively. This code of conduct has allowed him to become one of the oldest and most respected “crime lords” within the prime material plain. He uses the term crime lord lightly, for he doesn’t stand behind true acts of violence. His true domain is that of gold and treasure. thieving.

Most of the ddo lore i know comes from the game ddo online i really enjoy it and it made me get more into the ddo universe your channel really makes me understand how much this universe is interesting and incredible. I suggest you promote your channel in the ddo forums so you can share these beautiful videos.

Just got caught up with all your Dragon lore videos and man I can't wait for the next one!!

Enjoyable dragon video as always, cold do without the click-bait titles though. Minor nitpick about venom and poison: Poison is ingested and venom is injected, but both are toxins. So copper dragons would be immune to eating toxins (poisoning) but not having the toxin injected (envenoming).

Poison is a toxin that gets into the body via swallowing, inhaling or absorption through the skin. Venom is a specialised type of poison that has evolved for a specific purpose. It is actively injected via a bite or sting.

@@ARIES5342 Alcohol POISONING is a thing...yes. A hangover and vomiting is your body's attempt to rid yourself of the alcohol.

Wow I'm actually impressed by this lore piece, thanks Rhexx! I've notice that the special relationship that they have between them is interestingly similar to the kakapo's (a New Zealand terrestrial bird that lives to the ripe old age of 95 in the wild) !

p.s. When a kakapo sees his "partner" they play for a while until one of them gets a little aggressive (because he got offended). But they're partners lol

This was a good reference for me. I recently made and used a character that was an earth genasi. Since I gave them the feat “gift of the metallic dragon” I needed to figure out which type of dragon gifted them this. Well, I had made my character a trickster rogue with a level of wizard. Finding out about this dragon immediately helped because it suddenly made sense with the connection between the feat and the subclass. From there I decided on why would the dragon care to grant this feat to the character and also decided they were an abandoned child whom the dragon raised and basically became a part of the living part of the hoard of said dragon. This also explained some of the items they had (like a crystal rapier) and why they might be more light hearted and happy go lucky than your average earth genasi, hard not to when your foster parent is a prankster. So yeah. Thanks for the help with the more detailed backstory I was able to write with this information!

The battle between a copper and a red dragon could be the concept for a Looney Toons style cartoon

I like to think that in a fight Copper Dragons are just talking shit like Spider-Man does.

Quest idea: a copper dragon wants the adventurers to help him impress his potential mate by setting up a surprise party for her with tons of important and interesting humanoids. The players must gather them all up, and keep her busy while they are being placed in her lair for the party. As a reward for doing this, the copper dragon will part with a bit of his precious hoard. And offer to fly them anywhere they want, after the party of course.
