“Brass Dragons enjoy conversation maybe a little too much.” *party wakes up to find themselves encased in a cube of sandstone “Oh! You’re awake!” A reptilian voice says from outside, “yeah, I saw a sandstorm coming in the night and didn’t want it to disturb you guys.” ... “So uh... how’s the adventure been going? You folks run into an interesting characters?”

"I love interesting characters myself, one time I met a pirate captain from Fildenskarn. Have you all been to Fildenskarn? It's a wonderful place, according to the captain that is. As for me I don't know whether it's a wonderful place or a dreadful place, though judging by the fact that the captain was a murderer who tried to attack me while I was talking I gather it was perhaps not. Not that you folks would ever seek to do something like that. You're too nice! And besides the sandstorm will be raging for quite a while yet. Nasty businesses sandstorms, but it is a pleasant thing to be inside the Great Hall of Conversation while the wind wails away at rock and dirt, if I do say so myself. I do! Hahaha! Anyways how are your respective evenings going? Mine is going swimmingly thanks for asking! Not that I've ever swum anywhere before, no water out here! Swum? Swam? I'm quite at a loss. No, I'm quite sure it's swam. I would love to learn your names! My name is Tulgither the Short Winded! I know! I'm known for being quite succinct amongst the nomads of the desert! They told me so when I asked! Not that you'll ever tell me anything when I ask! You're all quite asleep at this point! In any case! I was wanting to tell you all about the time I was stung by a bermethean scorpion, nasty creatures scorpions..."

…And that was when Kuriboh told me that the key to a successful polyamorous union was a mutual hatred of Jaden Yuki. I’m not familiar with Jaden Yuki myself, but I suppose I don’t need to be! Brass dragons like myself don’t have long-lasting relationships, you see. No, I prefer the company of lesser creatures such as yourselves. I don’t mean to offend! I apologize for any harm done. That’s simply the word of the great god Bahamut. Excellent deity, Bahamut. My mother told me all about him. The Platinum Dragon lives behind the East Wind, she said, and many of you lesser creatures think that means the Elemental Plane of Air. But don’t worry, his great home was not subsumed into the Elemental Chaos, it’s actually on Celestia. Seems rather obvious, doesn’t it? I thought so, anyway. Elemental Chaos? Nasty place. I won’t hesitate to tell you, whoever’s idea it was to take all of the elemental planes and mash them together should not be asked for advice again. Wonderful thing, advice. I once received some excellent advice from a rattlesnake named Tobias - I named him that of course, snakes don’t have much of a naming tradition. Wonderful things, names. I’m Tulgither the Short-Winded, as I’ve said. What are your names?

  • @kendrajade6688

    @kendrajade6688

    5 жыл бұрын

Oh, what advice did Tobias give? Well, it’s a funny story actually, though It begins a few days before I met Tobias. There was a sandstorm, if I recall. Nasty things, sandstorms. Personally I’m not affected by them much, but there are fewer lessers out and about and I love company. That’s why I built this Grand Hall of Conversation. I do hope you like it, it was made for humanoids to appreciate. Not that I think you humanoids are all the same. Why, I never thought I’d see a pair of tieflings in the desert! You’re all very interesting. Why just four years ago I spoke with a tiefling named Panic Grimtongue - he was a Bard from Alivast - have any of you heard of Alivast? It sounded made up to me, but I don’t leave my desert much! It would be awfully irresponsible of me to leave the treasures of the Calim Empire unguarded, what with that blue dragon moving in. Nasty creatures, blue dragons. Patient devils, too. Oh, I can be patient as well but it helps to have a friend with me for that. I like company, what can I say? Why, I once waited three years eating nothing but morning dew and speaking with nothing but an armadillo whose tunnel I found, watching the lair of Meryatum for her while she was... well, that’s not really my business. Oh! The blue dragon is what I wanted to see you about! Horrible things, blue dragons. It won’t attack my lair but it’s terrorizing the trade roads and some of the nomads. Lovely people, nomads. Why, the village elder of the Detanbam tribe comes by every year to meet with me. Wonderful people, the Detanbam. They’re a tribe of Earth Genasi moving from oasis to oasis. They only recently moved here after the spell plague. Nasty occurrence, the spell plague. I was always fond of Mystra - so happy she’s recovered from that business with Cyric - nasty god, Cyric. I don’t have much to say about him. I am, after all, Tulgither the Short-Winded. Anyway, I was hoping you could help me kill that blue dragon. Nasty business, killing.

A brass dragon seems to be the only type that could live in a city and run it not as warlord or rules obsessed dictator but as a legitimate city official, employing legitimate city watch and hiring adventures to do all the serious fighting, you know as their aversion to precious metals would allow them not to horde any and let the city to have a normal economy.

Brass dragons can be wonderful for a GM willing to put in some creative thought. In my own (homebrew) campaign, the party wizard wanted to attempt making an infant brass dragon his temporary familiar. You better believe I made him work *very hard* to get that chance. He ended up needing to obtain a very rare painting (in point of fact, a queen's most prized possession) in order to "purchase" an egg from a brass dragon pair. What that really meant was that he was permitted to remain with that single egg, caring for it under the watchful eyes of the parents. (And, naturally, keeping up his end of the conversations!) At the time of hatching, he was permitted to initiate contact with that hatchling and attempt to persuade it to befriend him. And of course he rolled a natural 20 when it came time for that. I almost wish sometimes he hadn't, as baby dragons make inconvenient familiars at best, haha! The dragon is still around, almost ten real-world years later, but no longer a familiar - he is an NPC now, but still a staunch ally of the wizard and a friend to the whole region - he has plenty of people to talk to!

Wizards specialized in manipulating the Weave to form magic effects. Clerics specialized in manipulating divine granted positive and negative energy. Undead and the like are formed and fuelled by negative energy, and Clerics have a direct line to it in the purest form. Wizards can mimic those effects by using the Weave to access negative energy, but an evil or undead focused Cleric can literally emit those energies as Harm/Heal and through channeling divinity. They can bolster, create and turn the undead so easily because they manipulate the fundamental energies of life and undeath. Besides, a Wizard can study the secrets of undeath for years and not come close to a Cleric whose deific patron is someone like Vecna or Myrkul. Being able to ask a god of death questions about the nature of necromancy is a bit OP.

You wake up in a prison of sand and see a small dragon staring at you almost in anticipation of something.” Players probably start freaking out. “And suddenly the dragon starts going on and on about everything he knows.” Huge joyful monologue later. “He then looks at you and asks you a bunch of questions to see what you know expecting an equally long monologue”. Now wouldn’t that be a funny campaign moment?

I assume that when you say "they can never win on their own" you mean it as in "when they fight a blue dragon of the same age category. Seeing as I would assume an ancient brass would deal with a young or even adult blue rather easily. Or is that incorrect? Edit: Based off of CR.

  • @dissolution9843

Naturally. Though I'd imagine there's a bit of leeway there in favor of the blue as well. Blues are much stronger, have better breath weapons, have superior lairs, and are physically tougher. Not to mention Brasses being cowards. I'd say a Young Blue could probably take an Adult Brass on its own. (Were the Brass somehow inclined to fight or cornered) Though the likelihood of that happening and the Brass not just running away and gathering allies to gang up on the Blue is really low.

@@dissolution9843 I can see how most of this is relevant, however, I dunno what lair actions has to do with it, unless they fight in the lair ofc. If the brass is cornered it is likely not in the lair of the blue, right? So those LA:s should not matter in that case. The rest I can see as relevant though :) Even though I think CR points in a different direction :) (Granted, CR can be really misleading).

@@magnusflodberg6162 Right, the main thing I see occurring is if a Brass tries to go after a Blue in it's underground lair. The Blue collapses sand tunnels behind it and it's cornered. One of the things Blues do best. Of course Brasses have a certain amount of earth altering magic they can perform, but if they're deep and have a lot of sand to deal with not to mention the Blue and it's minions, I see that fight going in favor of the blue. But like I said, what horrifying thing had to have happened to make a Brass follow a Blue into its lair is beyond me.

He also, goes on nearly endless tangents while talking, but he is known for his amazingly accurate verdicts.

All of your DnD lore videos have made me realize the importance of an attention to detail. I love watching them and you are an inspiration to DMs everywhere! I think, for me, the best part is how you describe these creatures as being part of reality. You mention the minster manuals and books, yes, but when you describe them you use phrases to get the view invikved. Like with the black dragon facts video, I forget how you said it but the way you spoke about the horns, as a lexicon or a sage and not just reading a description, full.of whimsy, makes your videos feel less like fact videos and more like mini campaigns I don't suck up too much usually but I just wanted to let you know to keep it up :)

Hopefully you'll get to Bronze. I have a player who's Bronze Dragonborn has been transformed into a true Bronze dragon. Your previous videos on dragons have great info hoping the bronze gets the same treatment. Before anyone says it, a character who is a dragon is not as gamebreaking as you might think at mid levels. It's actually harder for him as he becomes a huge target for any enemies that don't run. He tends to stay in humanoid form for that reason. The group got captured (they surrendered before a fight broke out) by a large group of devils while the dragon character was "in statis". When he woke up, he transformed and demanded to be released. They immediately (after the initial shock of course) started throwing chains over his neck , trying to get him to surrender. When he fought back, they encircled him in a ring of spearmen and nearly killed him. His repusion breath saved him, blasting away attackers on his flank, allowing him to focus on thier front line. Moral of the story, he tries to keep his true nature low key.

Sounds like a fun character. I like getting creative with dragons as part of civilizations and Currently my bard/warlock thinks they’re devoted to a music agent pit fiend pretending to be a curiosity shop owner, but really that pit fiend is a brass dragon and the sword he granted him is a sentient weapon mimicking the effects of a hex blade. It’s the kind of double layer long con I imagine a brass would run to trick interesting adventurers coming back to tell him tales while keeping soon to be warlocks from selling their souls. Hope he does copper soon but it sounds like you’re running it well already!

So, he isn't a real dragon. People don't mind that part. It's if you start out as a dragon who is able to turn into a humaniod that makes it op apparently to others, coming from personal experience, since my main d&d character, that I NEVER get rid off (even have a custom miniature for him and everything) is a bronze dragon, who use a magical artifact (for most of his life until he became a adult, and was tricked into think his humaniod form was his REAL form, when the truth is the other way around) to make him into a bronze dragon born. That was called op, and I was told good luck finding someone to play with. It all comes down to their origins whether the masses decide if he is op or not. Born (NOT the race dragonborn, or skyrim "dragon"born) a dragon and you are op, but if you were some other race that just can turn into one at will, then you ain't op, for not only stat reasons, but from apparently lore, society, and love making reasons. So it just depends what your character originally was.

@@zionthedragon8866 No, he will remain a player character. We did about 20 adventures with him in party as a Dragonborn and we've done the last 2 with him as a Bronze dragon. Its working out just fine. He has just as many advantages as he has disadvantages and nobodies role in the party has Been diminished because of this. Our dwarf fighter is still awesome, the druid has healing and shape shifting ability that the party finds valuable. The other paladin has an interesting story and does a ton of damage in combat while the dragon character can be a medium sized extra paladin or a huge dragon causing terror (and drawing huge agro) across the battlefield. It's working out my only real gripe is that they use him for transportation now....something I need to always keep in mind as possible.
