Alice was a gem from 1934 to 1945 in her films. Great easy-go-loving films. My parents spoke fondly of her. I have and still do love all her songs & have many on pianola rolls.

Alice Faye was 22 when she made this picture with what became one of her signature songs by the songwriting team of Jimmy McHugh and Harold Adamson. Ms. Faye got her start in entertainment as a chorus girl, so she could hold her own with the likes of the dazzling George Murphy. Thank you, Minstrel Surfer, for posting this fine clip--a pleasure to watch.

I love this and while I'm at it, I get the feeling that Alice Faye is a very nice person.

I think so, too, William. She seems to have that warmth of personality in every song she sings. No-one quite like her. She's a sweetheart!

I have not heard an account of Alice that doesn't include what a genuinely warm and down to earth person she was and remained. And that clearly comes through judging from our comments as well as her sustained group of fans through the years!

@@MinstrelSurfer, Do you think you could upload the entire film? The only KZread video of the whole film is very blurry while your video is clear.

I've come to this by looking up music that appears in classic Tom and Jerry cartoons. What a song and what a voice. Thanks MinstrelSurfer.

I have loved Alice Faye since I was a kid! I have some much-played CDs & a few DVDs, but I've never seen this performance. Thank you so much for posting! Lots to smile about... :)

That's the most dangerous dance scenes I've ever seen. ... Excellent! I pick this as Alice's best song and signature piece. I vaguely remember seeing it on TV when I was a kid. I used to have the large Alice Faye book that had beautiful black and white photos, but, unfortunately, it must have got lost in the shuffle when I moved sometime back.

What a great performance by both of them. George went into politics and Betty Grable took over for Alice when she retired, but I don't think Betty ever attained her stature. Thanks for posting!

Thanks again for another interesting comment, songplugger. It's good to get these insights you share. Helps to fill in the gaps. I, too, love Alice in this film and I especially love her rendition of this song, I think it is the perfect song for her and reveals her sparkling personality. Who couldn't fill in love with her as she sings this intimate ballad. When Alice raises her eyebrow, in her own inimitable fashion, she has us under her spell.

I love Alice in this film. She seems friskier and frankly happier than those she made at her home studio....However.......because Zanuck lent her out for this (the last time she was lent to another studio) he refused to loan her for THE GOLDWYN FOLLIES....which although it turned out to be a big bomb had George Gershwin's last score. Imagine Alice crooning "Love Walked In" and "Our Love Is Here To Stay"! Another Alice 'Almost': Irving Berlin wanted Alice for HOLIDAY INN, but Paramount gave it to Alices good friend Mary Martin. When Mary got pregnant and had to drop out of the film, Paramount asked Zanuck for Alice ...he agreed, but then Alice announced she was also pregnant and Zanuck had to cancel the loan.....but imagine Alice dancing with Astaire and introducing "White Christmas" with Bing! I sure wish Alice had waited a few months....

Glad you like it, Douglas. This is one of my favourite songs in Alice's repertoire. Like you, I have a collection of her CDs and films. She is adorable and I never tire of watching her ... especially her trademark raising of one eyebrow! Fabulous and thanks for commenting, I am pleased to hear from you.

I'm besotted with this. I am familiar with both of them, but I'd never seen this clip. I keep playing it over and over. George fascinates me with his dancing which I never took much notice of before. Not when there was Fred. But he's brilliant, maybe more than as a governor of California later.

By golly, the Governor of California could do a few things with his feet then. I only started to appreciate George lately. Love the vamping bit from the orchestra. oom-papa-oom-oom-papa.( I should say therefore, Senator George.)
