Today I want to cover some interesting things about fruit. Fruit contains vitamin C, phytonutrients, and fiber. But does the bad outweigh the good?
Fruits have at least 5 times more sugar than vegetables. In fact, 85% of a piece of fruit is sugar. If you’re eating fruit for health reasons, you may want to get your nutrients from a different source.
Fruits have very low amounts of many nutrients that your body needs, including:
• Protein
• Fat
• Iron
• B vitamins
• Calcium
• Zinc
• Omega-3
• Vitamin D
Certain fruits have lower amounts of sugar and are fine to consume in small amounts, including:
• Raspberries
• Blackberries
• Blueberries
• Strawberries
Fruit contains glucose and fructose. Fructose might be low on the glycemic index, but it’s not a healthy alternative to sugar. Only the liver can metabolize fructose, which means it can overload the liver and cause a cascade of issues.
Other problems with fructose:
• It causes you to feel less satisfied
• It increases cortisol
• It decreases insulin sensitivity
• It contributes to a fatty liver

You missed the point. Also fruits these days are genetically modified and sprayed with pesticides and who knows what other chemicals at any given moment. Just washing them won't help. 🤣 If You're fortunate to have Your own biological garden with fruits then sure. Or neighbor? I wish I had house and garden full of fruits and vegetables. 🥺 But average person these days can't afford that anymore. Sugar is sugar no matter how You put it lol. And excess sugar will lead to fat storage. With possible exceptions like fast metabolism perhaps. Donuts or cakes are just worse because they have more carbs. It's bread with sugar basically. And we all know that bread is also bad. 🤣

I never would’ve thought in my wildest dreams that I would hear a doctor say we shouldn’t eat to many fruits, because it can cause you to have a fatty liver, and on some of his other videos he said don’t eat too many nuts because it can cause kidney stones. Dr Berg, when it comes to fruits and most things, I just follow nature , there is a good reason why a tree gives us fruits once per year for about 1 or 2 weeks, there is a good reason why some fruits grow in different regions, so I only eat fruits when they are in season and fruits that grow in my region no imported or from other regions fruits, I follow nature because nature knows best. Problem with us humanbeings we became so clever that we became stupid eating fruits daily all year round and importing them fruits from other regions.

Eric, I think you're disregarding a crucial point when it comes to fruit: *The enzymes that come packaged with fresh fruit.* You can't be pointing out the amount of sugar with no regard to the amount of pre-packaged enzymes that will help you break that sugar down. And I have to say from personal experience that it's practically impossible to overeat fruit. That's because fruit will actually satisfy you, contrary to refined sugars - *that is a fact.* The enzymes that come with fresh fruit are the most important reason why you should *NEVER buy or consume **_pasteurized_** fruit juice,* which makes up the *majority* of fruit juice products with many of them also containing *concentrates.* Ideally, you shouldn't be drinking (or cooking) your fruit at all - you should be *eating* your fruit. Even if you juice fresh fruit with a juice machine, it's never as beneficial as eating the fruit. In that regard, smoothies are much better than juices from a health standpoint. Natural sugars (no refining whatsoever) are generally harmless *until you **_heat_** them.* So, don't heat honey, maple syrup, fruits or other sources of natural sugar. Doing so will actually make them harmful! For example, glazing your steak with honey before you cook it will cause a lot of harm, because you're ruining the honey by heating it, and you're combining protein with sugar (which is BAD). But the point is, *_eating_** fresh fruit is not **_harmful!_* Of course, you should make sure you're getting the best quality (as with any foods) - meaning pesticide-free and grown with natural fertilizers only and in nutrient rich soil with climate conditions ideal for the plant. If you tick all those boxes, eating fruit could never be a bad thing unless you're a diabetic. But you don't become a diabetic from eating fruit. That's accomplished from *refined* carbohydrates, which do include pasteurized fruit products. So, to repeat myself: *NEVER buy or consume **_pasteurized_** fruit products!* And preferably, don't cook with fruit or sugar, natural or otherwise.

Fruits contains, fiber, enzymes, antioxidants and above all it has tons of healing properties for every cell in the body that is why God has given us such beautiful fruits to consume to be joyful and healthy, which is my personal belief. I consume fruits only for breakfast because our body needs sugar as fuel for the entire day, so that is why I eat fruits only for breakfast.

Sugar is sugar, no matter where it comes from, so saying "natural" sugar doesn't make it less impactful. The newest research in fructose is quite alarming in how it affects the liver, promoting NAFLD. Our bodies do not need sugar for the entire day, it really needs minimal sugar at all. Not everyone struggles the same and we all have a different metabolism and thus handle sugar differently. Berries are fine and low on the glycemic index. It also depends on the person because fruit can be inflammatory for some people like me. I can't eat much without sparking a sugar frenzy. Even natural sugar can trigger inflammation if eaten at the same sugar levels that were lost before going low carb and refined sugar free. You have to look at what he says in context. He talks about in one of his videos being addicted to ice cream and Doritos which sounds a lot like what I experience even if I eat grapes but know this is probably from his personal experience but it can be the experiences of others. Eat in moderation if you can. But if you can't like me because it starts you on an addiction you need to avoid any fruit high on the glycemic index and load and just pay careful attention to your eating habits and body after you eat a particular fruit and when you eat a bit more of it.

Any sugar will cause hunger. 3% of sugar is converted to fructose. 10times this, 30% if you obese & metabolically sick. Alcohol is metabolised to the same uric acid as fructose. So it's the same. Eating food with fake glutamine flavor does the same, spikes uric acid causes sugar convention to fructose, hunger. Wheel moved again. The same high dose of regular sugar esp liquid as soft drink. The same high salt intake... The same lots of meat with the same umami flavor/glutamin. Dehydration also... Lots of factors to keep in mind. But all comes back to one the same cycle. Zero sugar, less salt, more hydration (sugar dehydrates), more walking or exercising. That's why Japanese walk, drink zero sugar green tea, eat variety in very small portions plus fermented food with vitamins & probiotics, never eat full, lots of seafood too. Not sure about fruits.

Apples are mainly pectin a wonderful fibre that, unlike cereals, doesn’t irritate the bowel. Fructose is a problem when people make juice out of fruit not chewing with NO saliva to masticate it. Try eating 5 apples instead of juicing, there is a big difference in benefits.

Fruits have one purpose that is fattening planteaters up for the winter. We are equipped with a ‘sweet tooth’ to ensure we do just that. Plant and plant eaters live in a sort of symbiose, they need seed spreading, we need fat for the winter. Fructose in large quantities forces the liver to convert it to fat but fructose is toxic in the long run and nature knows that do its only available a few weeks each year. The problem is we eat it each day year after year and that is the root cause of nearly all illnesses we have.

That helps a lot to prevent fat buildup. But I find that eating berries as a primary source for fruits is the best way to get the benefits, but I also eat things like mango and pineapple as they are excellent cancer fighters, much better than oranges or other citrus fruits. The extra sugar in fruits is only a problem if you eat a lot of sugar in other foods as well. If you get most of your sugar from fruit and don't eat junk food or candy, then it should not be a problem.

Idk what vegetables i need to eat but I’ve eaten broccoli plenty of times and it doesn’t have the same effect when i drink a smoothie. I make myself a smoothie often when i wake up, at least every other day. I definitely can tell a huge difference on how my skin looks and it feels smooth and soft too. I just use strawberries, blueberries, mangoes, squeeze 3 key limes in and use apple juice for my smoothie and it seems to have very positive effect on my skin.

Dr Berg, I have studied alot of your videos. As a practicing nutritionist for over 40 years, I agree with so many of your principals. Having gone through estrogen dominance, gallbladder removal, breast cancer and then menopause, my metabolism hit a major stumbling block. So, I have put into play moderate Keto and intermittent fasting. My concerns on too many "NO's" in your recommendations are the negative effects it might have on populatiions of people that struggle with Anorexia, Bulemia, Orthorexia and the like. I see so many issues with demonizing particular foods, that I could never stroke weight loss and healthy eating with a narrow brush.. I did to make changes....stress is my worst enemy...but I am learning to deal with it...along with adherence to your many recommendations.

his videos are usually so strong. i dont eat fruit to exclusion of other nutrient sources. i dont expect to get fat from fruit excepting the avocado which is a fruit and loaded with beta carotein and omega 3 fats arent they Dr Berg ? Avocados contain vitamins in addition to C such as E, K, and B6, as well as riboflavin, niacin, folate, pantothenic acid, magnesium, and potassium. The fiber in fruit slows the uptake of natural sugar which present in low amounts and mixed with other natural and not free sugars readily digestable in the body . We eat them just under ripe to retain the enzymes which aid in digestion. What about the polphenols and cartenoids in fruit which protect from us from disease and oxidative damage.. Fruits such as Watermelon reduce inflammation in the body. Why is the title attempting to be so divisive. I trust you to be informative not triggering. The points you make seem to tie in with over consumption or with fruit excluding other nutrient sources. I really think that most people who are here are not doing that. Please clarify. ive learned SO much from you. this video felt overly simplistic in a way your other videos do not. the case is clear to not eat too much of any fruit or vegetables while not eating anything manufactured. i look forward to your next video. I'll still eat fruit. There's nothing wrong with them, if nature made them edible. But we should focus mainly on local fruit, so in my country it would be: berries (strawberries, raspberries, blackberries black currant and so on), also apples, pears and cherries. Besides - if you eat, you raise insulin no matter what (protein raises blood sugar much more than fat), so eating fruit after meal does no difference. And they contain many vital nutrients. For me the key is to eat 2 meals a day and minimum 12 hours of break between last meal and first meal the next day. I feel better than ever before. But I eat fruit, together with meals.

Sadly you are working on a false hypostasis "they contain many vital nutrients" the facts trotted out today is based on tests ~100years old carried out on fruit that was not created in industrial production facilities sprayed with chemicals and selected based on sugar content to ensure repeat customer purchase not optimum health. Find an old person and ask them if fruit 50 years ago had a better taste than sweet fruits today? Modern high sugar fruits give a insulin spike as opposed to old-fruit which gave a lower spike.

For example, in every 100 gm of an apple, 86 gm is water. The total carbs ( or sugars) is just 11.6gm. If we subtract the 2.5 g of fibre, the total net carbs or sugar is just 9.1g There is NO way a fresh fruit can be made of 85℅ sugar... Even if you make a jam out of it.

The key is to eat the fruit just under-ripe or at the exact peak of ripeness, NOT when it's overripe, as then it gets rid of its enzymes and turns into pure sugar. The other key is to eat fruit ONLY during its natural season, which in most cases is spring and summer. God made it this way so that we're outside more often and moving around more so we can burn off what we need to. Do NOT eat fruit in the winter when you're supposed to be storing food.

Exactly! Eat local and until it lasts in your root cellar. I was watching plenty of videos about people living in Uzbekistan - people live long, healthy lives because they grow their food and drink spring water.

Great example of how humans can "logic" their way into anything. We possess every single anatomical feature of frugivores. This will make a lot of people's heads implode because of our cultural conditioning and personal biases, but we are tropical beings living in a non-native habitat just making due with what we cultivate. It has not changed our digestive system which is 100% suited for processing and utilizing fruits as a mainstay.

It makes sense. Many years ago, a colleague shared that her doctor advised to stay away from fruits for they’re high in sugar. Back then, the younger and less evolved me couldn’t comprehend that and thought it was a wrong advice (cuz I enjoyed fruits). But now I see it, and I’m in complete agreement to what is shared here. We are just very conditioned since young being told that fruits is good. It does have its merit, but if we don’t need that extra sugar in our body, why feed ourselves with it?

Then why does the human mouth water when people see mangoes or strawberries, while it doesn’t happen at all at the sight of broccoli, wheatgrass, or pigs? I reckon the body knows best.

Theres so much I can tear apart in this video that i would have to type an essay. Hes talking about all the things that fruit lacks, like protein. WHO TF EATS FRUIT FOR PROTEIN!? We are human beings who eat food from all food groups for different benefits so we can have the best of everything. Some people should just not give nutritional advice.

Completely agree!! This guy is an expert in fear mongering to push his Keto and IF agenda. He starts with "can I eat fruit" and explains the dangers of "living on fruit" which is at the opposite extreme end of the spectrum. He does this for everything he doesn't approve of.
