You Likely do NOT Know What the Buddha MEANT Even if You Know the Words - Fingers to the Moon

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Whenever I release a new video, I am typically NOT repeating everything I teach in detail and rather focus on some specific aspect of the Dhamma.
In doing so, I presuppose some knowledge in You, the viewer.
While I use the same words that YOU know, you would be surprised how often I MEAN something different.
In fact, if you are new, I would not be surprised if EVERY pali word means something different to me compared to you.
I am aware that this is a dry-seeming topic and people usually ignore it but it is of UTMOST importance so maybe give this video an honest try...
Words are like fingers pointing to the moon.
They mean different things for each of us.
Be very careful in blindly assuming that we mean the same thing.
Fully understanding what craving/suffering is means that you are free from it.
If you are NOT free from suffering, it is safer to accept that you are at least partially wrong with your understanding of the practice.

Another important video. I always feel inspired after watching. I also feel like you are becoming better and better at teaching. Or maybe I am just understanding more and more hehe. Anyway, thanks for what you do! 🙏🏻

very important talk. wouldn't it be a good idea to maybe make a video just defining important terms: like feeling, what is meant by that, pressure, what exactly is meant by that, senses, body and so on. whatever terms do not need stream entry. that would help a lot for putthujanas like me. Regards

From time to time, I do release such videos. For example on Sankhars, Dependent Origination, mindfulness etc

I appreciate the way you talk about the dhamma. I am only really able to manage academic understanding of this from your talks and from hillside hermitage. Your approaches seem very similar with the biggest difference being that they are monastics. Other than your channel and theirs, I only read the suttas. It seems to me that i should avoid commentaries and stick as close to the original teachings as possible. Your talks and theirs are the only i have found that do not stray from the teachings. Is that a sound approach?

Well, when it comes to gaining information on the Dhamma, your sources there should be sufficient even though there are othe teachers who say right things too, obviously. Yet, the most important part would be that you try to actually put the information into practice, otherwise it wont bear fruit even if it is right!

@@TheDhammaHub absolutely sir! I don’t attempt to meditate, all i really do is study and contemplate and keep precepts including sleeping on the floor 99% of the time. I really want to make sure i practice sense restraint correctly. Do you suggest sitting doing nothing in spite of the minds attempts to have me do otherwise?

@@jaredwolfe4042 In the end, you want to learn your intentions (craving) and you want to understand how they make you suffer. If your practice moves in that direction it is usually good!

I made this very argument that reddit “buddhists” should stop their advising of newcomers unless they had direct knowledge of what they were saying which, more often than not, conflicted with the dhamma.
