Where are the days when we had such great directors: Guru Dutt, Raj Kapoor ,Kamal Amrohi,K Asif. It was definitely the golden era of Hindi Cinema. It is definitely shameful to see the new directors like Karan Johar, he has spoiled the new age bollywood. Hate bollywood movies post SSR death.

Without rafi sahab no one to give voice to Sahir's gems or Guru Dutt's character. And rare for SD Burman to have the same male voice for every song in the movie. But who else was going to do justice to the story, or sing in a clear melodious voice with so little instrumental backup?

Md Rafi......Oh! What a singer. He can sing a song like this one and can followup with a completely funfilled peppy song and then go on with a devotional song with equal finese and beautifully. Greatest indian playback singer in hindi, punjabi and host of other north indian languages (there was Ghantasala who was Rafi's contemporary and equally great in Telugu and Tamil songs)... When Ghantasala passed away, Md Rafi sang good number of Telugu songs as well to fill his void.

"Waqt ne kiya kya haseen sitam" (Kagaz ke phool) It is one of my all time favorite picturing of a song. But I don't know if you will understand the video without watching the film. It's basically a song where two people are in love and want to be with each other but the conditioning of the society and their circumstances keeps them apart. It is portrayed SO BEAUTIFULLY.

The pain and despair through most of this song rightly portrayed by Guru Dutt's expressions and Rafi Sahab's voice. The burst of anger at the end is the perfect ending to this expression of the sad reality of the world. Good job guys. You'll love more of Guru Dutt for sure. Kagaz ke phool is another masterpiece that comes to mind.

It's a song of resurrection of a person who was rejected continuosly when alive. I was so fascinated by Guru Dutt that I read couple of books about his life and films. Guru Dutt, Sahir Ludhyanvi, SD Burman, Md. Rafi and VK Murthi what an unimaginable combination back in the days. 1940 to 1960 is still considered to be the golden era of bollywood.

The hero is a poet, who never got recognized for his work. The rich lady in the clip was his girlfriend who ditched him to mary a rich publisher ( the guy on the stage). He found true love from a prostitute ( the lady crying over the shoulder of her freind). One day the poet gives his jacket to a beggar, the beggar got run over by a train. Everybody thought the poet died and he becomes an overnight celebrity. The clip is about the publisher honoring the dead poet and unveiling his statue. But the poet returns from the dead.

Guru Dutt - one of the best directors and storytellers ever! The music and lyrics of his movies were not only heartbreakingly beautiful but also actually moved the story forward in those movies. The angst and grief in this song is so beautifully expressed by Sahir Ludhianvi and Guru Dutt as the protagonist is mind blowing but what's fantastic is that both as director and actor he is awesome . The subbing by Asad was just so on point! Of course the voice of Mohammed Rafi is just gold.

This is one of the very few extremely revolutionary songs of bollywood that brings out the harsh realities of this world!!!! The bitter nature of human relations and how people don't think twice before giving up on their own kith and kin, just for fame and money, is the essence of this movie and this song!!! This song is the whole movie summarized in these beautiful lyrics.

Beautifully subbed Asad! The lady in black shawl is Waheeda Rehman the mother in Rang de basanti. And Guru Dutt makes B/W so beautiful and Rick if you watch his movies specially Kaagaz ke Phool he likes to play with shadows too. Even shadows are the characters ❤️. Watch them for yourself I wouldn't want them reviewed because I am so in love with these movies every aspect of them. Also with so less in hand they created something for generations. And concept is true for every generation.

Wow! You actually reached Guru Dutt, SD Burman and Sahir! Wow! BTW The movie's title 'Pyasa' means 'thirsty' and the title of the song 'Ye duniya agar mil bhi jaye to kya hai' means 'even if one wins this world, so what?' Pyaasa (thirsty) and Kagaz ke Phool (paper flowers) are Guru Dutt classics as actor-director.

You've got to watch this movie (Pyasaa), one of the three Bollywood movies to feature in the top 100 Movie of All time World Wide. the other two also belong to this Legend Guru Dutt. The Godfather of Bollywood. This movie was so ahead of its time, It will probably last the next 100 years. So sad that no one remembers Guru Dutt nowadays. I would go on to say that he is the most underrated actor of the world. Important Fact- its also the favorite Bollywood movie of Aamir Khan

This movie was offered to tragedy king Dilip Kumar. It was written for him. But he was taking treatment for pscycological problems. He was suffering from Depression. Dr advised him not to work in tragic films. Hence the Director himself played the main character. Mr Durudatta Padukone is Uncle of India's Badminton Master Prakash Padukone who is now known as father of Actress Deppika Padukone.
