    We were just up in Mass riding the TMT and parts of the NEBDR and puppy dog in late July. We picked up a 2012 XT for our smaller friend to ride. I didn't even know the XT existed until a few months ago. What a great little machine. Reminds me of a mini lighter version of my KLR. Thanks for sharing.

    Cool Story! Nothing quite like riding home with broken bones, lol. Xt's do rock, 'tho. Tough I love the injection on my '13. She NEVER runs out of breath pulling up a mountain. She just walks right up the hill, like its nothing. A true mountain goat. Has all the power you need as long as you keep her under the double nickel. But, to each, their own. Be safe out there now.

    It's nice to know you have a bdr out east. I live a few miles off of the northern section of the idaho bdr which i ride almost every day. This winter I went to arizona and rode most of the bdr there. I guess I better load up the bike and head east and see what you have going there. Nice bike and great attitude. Thanks for sharing.

    What an excellent video. Loved the infinite wax job you have there. Very interesting early model vs current model XT250 ergonomics. You seriously should be on the XT250 design committee as you know it inside out. You definitely were catalyst for me to even buy an XT with your over 40k story on Momo.

    Thanks for the kind words. Hope you are enjoying your XT - such a wonderful machine. I would love to one day head to the Yamaha factory in Japan to see the XT250 assembly line - and to thank those who work on building this machine for the phenomenal quality they send each XT off with.

    The bike is the same as a Yamaha tricker in Japan which is a trials bike . That's why the handlebars are low the bike is made to right standing up and ride.

    So I heard that the Super Tenere footpegs are interchangable with the XT250. Can't confirm but I'd love to upgrade my XT250 pegs. I also put cheapo tusk risers on and upgraded to 7/8 Pro Taper Windam bend. I'm 6'3" and it seems much better than stock for me. I'd love those side carriers if Yamaha still makes them. Would like an affordable suspension upgrade since I"m 244lbs on a good day. Its a Yamaha and always starts no matter how rought I treat it. Thanks for sharing your experience. Cheers!

    Thanks for the video. When you added the risers did you have adjust any of the cables so they weren’t too tight when turning the handlebars all the way to one side? My cables on my 2019 model seem too tight to add risers but I want to so it’s more comfortable to ride standing.

  • @DualsportChic

    @DualsportChic

    While the cables are tight, they are not to the point to risking damage with the risers so I did not have to adjust the stock cables.

    deciding between a xt250 and a honda cb500x for my girlfriend. for the colorado bdr. we would ride from denver to durango on the smaller roads. all loaded up what a comfortable speed you could maintain? we have a yamaha sr250 that she loves so i thought it would be a easy transition. my main concern is the ride to get there. she tore her acl, mcl, and minicus in 2021 and went through all the physical therapy so she is stronger but still regaining muscle.

    73 mph is the top speed on this machine - you might think about trailering out - would save the tires as well so you can put a more aggressive knobbie on it and not wear it out.

    This is a fun bike, I have the older , carburetor type version of it. But it has one major problem. It has tube tires. I do not understand why yamaha does not put tubeless tires on this bike. If you get a flat tire with this bike in the middle of nowhere, you better have a bunch of tools, a spare tube and an air pump and the know-how to take the wheel off and replace the tube. A tubeless tire would taken 15 minutes to fix. It happened to me and I was stuck in the middle of desert.

  • @AdventuresWithMe00

    @AdventuresWithMe00

    Yes, it's a major hassle on all of these types of bikes. I've had the misfortune to change tubes in the middle of nowhere too and it's no fun.

  • @DualsportChic

    I find the OEM size sprocket give the best range. I would only change it if I wanted to ride more tight trails, or if I road more high speed pavement.
