The engine is now running a lot better but still not quite there. I need to check the choke system as its passing,

    You can push em onto the old boots alone, the trick is to use a ratchet strap to hold it in place, pop the left side in, then the right side and the middle carbs will find their home if everything is lined up. Thanks for the update!

    You have made an exquisite piece, it deserves way more views. Your knowledge and approach to and of things is masterful yet simple. Keep doing what you do!!! I had an XJ650 in red that I inherited from my Dad, I T-boned a car at a lowish speed (traffic circle) but it wrecked the forks and I was too inexperienced to fix it ,I sold it for almost nothing. It had the dread stretched alternator chain that I thought was the timing chain at the time - but you enlightened me, in fact , had I held onto the wrecked bike, these videos would have encouraged me to fix it! My favourite part of the bike was the massive headlight and the least was the rear end and the thin big 'Italic" wheels it had. You fixed and kept all these: therefore the perfect XJ. If I could constructively critique one thing it would be that the headlight always had a kind of 'bucked tooth" look, you having used the original headlight bracket has brought this across and along with the minimalised instrument cluster it has made this slightly more prominent, but it is part of the charm this bike's design and by no means takes away from your awesome ability and work you have put into it. Absolutely love the stellar work, put forward with unassuming humility - Thank you.

    I am taking apart my carbs and now, after 8 years of use I have seen that actually my engine belongs to a xj750rh 1981. I bought a carb kit for a XJ650 because first I thought that was my motorbike and because I can not find replacement in Spain or Europe. Somewhere in the past, an old owner must have swaped the engine on to a 750. My main needle has got an incription Y13, fuel jets are #120, #40 and air jets #80, #225. With the main needle (Y13) in my hand I tryed to insert it through the nozzle and it went all the way down. Doing the same test with the main jet and nozzle from the kit I bought for a xj650 it won't go all the way down in to the nozzle. This makes me think the Y13 nozzle from the xj750 is thinner than the one for the xj650. I don't know if the main needle from my xj750 is working fine or it goes all the way down in to the nozzle because it is worn. From outside it does look fine, no rust or dirt. What do you think, should I change the main needles and nozzles? If yes, where could I find them? I checked already online shops such as der-muede.de, motorradbay.de, wömbi.de. XJ4ever forum it's to expensive to send replacements in Spain. I would really apreciate if you can help me out. Many thanks

    Hi mate, if the engine is not running well then you should try take it back to original settings. You should check the part numbers for both the 650 and 750 to check if the nozzles are the same or not I'm not sure on this. The needle is definitely different. Parts aren't easy to find or cheap anymore, I found what I needed either at my local Yamaha dealer or ebay. Hope this helps

    @@Mezzmoengineering Watching your videos, reading a lot in xj4ever forum and now after taking apart my carbs I know a lot more about my carbs (thanks for that!). I want to leave everything as it was, I don't wan't to change or tune nothing but I wanted to change everything that could be suspicius of being worn and that could be one of the parts. I know all the jet sizes and main needle (Y13 belonging to a USA XJ750RH 1981 OG2) and I have also read that the nozzle size for both xj650 and xj750 is 3,2 mm. If I can introduce my xj750 Y13 main needle all the way down in the nozzle but not all the way down in the xj650 nozzle it seems like my nozzle could be worn I guess. I started to adjust the valve clearence, now I cleaned de carbs (thanks to you!) and I am trying to replace as much as I can or better said as much as replacement I can get for a XJ750 in Spain. I started all this process because the idle did not get down fast from 3000 rpm to 1000 rpm. I tryed first to sincronyze the carbs (with YICS toll) and play with the pilot mixture screw and did not make any diference that is why I decided to change the throtlle shaft v-seals, the rubber boots fuel pipe O- rings in case of unspected air intakes. Now that I have cleaned and replaced everything I could, the only doubt was about the main needle and nozzle. Now I guess I am going to mount the main needle and nozzle back again because I don't think this could cause my idle issue. Finally sincronyze again and tweak the mixture and let's see if it works fine. I would let you know. Thanks mate!

  • @3dfossils
    @3dfossils Жыл бұрын

    great skills you have. The reason your rich is because you're measuring the floats incorrectly. you have to turn the bank up at an angle to were the carbys float tangs just touch the float needles top spring rod. once that happens you measure just like you did.

    I have a 1980 xj650 and the choke cable is gone. I purchased the bike second hand can you help with telling me what I should be look for to figure out how to trace where the cable could be located?

  • @Mezzmoengineering

    @Mezzmoengineering

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi mate, the choke cable goes from the control lever which is usually on the handle bars down to one end of the carbies at the top. There's a bar that runs along the top of the carbies that joins all chokes together so all 4 carbies operate from just one choke cable. Its a very simple set up, hope this helps...

    Oh ok so if 650 an 750 are the same hight the 700 is as well and the 750 and 700 are both 65mm that pretty much means they’re the same top end except the the 750 piston is flatter on the top. I was gonna just put 750 rings in my 700 but I was told the two top compression rings are a little thicker I mite just leave my 700 crank which is actually a 650 turbo crank a bit stronger then the other ones and the 700 actually puts out more hp then the 750. u think I mite be able to get away with just putting 750 pistons in or try and make the 750 rings work in my pistons

  • @Mezzmoengineering

    @@loganlogan732 I don't think the 750 pistons will work. The 750 bore and stroke is 65X56.4 and the XJ700 is 65X52.4. The pistons will only work if the stroke is the same. The XJ650 has the same stroke as the 700 but the bore is only 63mm

    Hi, its hard to say but sounds like something not right with your main jets. Are you sure all galleries inside the carby were clear? Also ,check the fuel needle valves as they might be sticky and not allowing enough fuel into the bowls. Could also be something wrong with your fuel tap

  • @benray6831

    @benray6831

    Жыл бұрын

    Yeah I checked and blew out every crevice, the needle valves not sticking neither are the floats. I was told maybe the carbs aren’t in sync or maybe the floats are to high or low. I have the floats set to 17.5 and it has the original jets with pods. When I first got it, it didn’t have any air filters at all and it ran better then it does now. It would bog at the end of every gear. That’s why I cleaned the carbs.
