1982 Yamaha XJ650 Motorcycle Revival Part 2A

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this video, I pull the carb rack off, disassemble the innards and replace everything with a rebuild kit. After reassembly, it runs like new.

I know I'm late but if anyone watches this for reference, you push the air boots backwards into the airbox then pull the carbs out of the intake boots, you should be able to get just enough room to pull them back and out. Reinstalling is also a lot easier if you smear a little Vaseline on the carb body where it slides into the boots. It should help a bit to get them to pull over the carb so you can clamp them down.

I knew about the airbox boots but didn't think about the vaseline on them to get them on. that'll make replacing my Intake Gaskets easier.

just bought a 1982 xj750 seca. My carbs were good. previous owner was working on them but he coudlnt run without choke so i tried adjusting jets. i pulled off my exhaust system and it was rusty as hell. found some holes in it so i ordered a new one. about 500 bucks but the used ones people were selling were like 300 bucks for a junked up system. might as well buy it new. my engine sounds ok so hopefully when i put it back togther it will have no issues. well see!

he should have pushed the four rubber air intake tubes back into the plastic housing holes. It gives you a lot more room to get the carb out. As long as your rubber intake tubes have not hardened, it’s easy enough to pull them back into place. The extra room lets you rock the carb up and down as you pull it out. Makes it much easier.

That's what I do. I first soak them in WD-40, which makes them super slippery. You can then just squeeze them a bit, and they go right back into the airbox. That won't work if they are hardened from age.

If you have a Japanese bike you need to get a set of JIS cross head screwdrivers. A Phillips crosshead will cam out and strip the hell out of the screws. Save yourself a lot of heartache and aggravation and get the JIS screwdrivers.
