    Great job! You really took that project far. But I'm sure the smiles you get from your daughter made it all worth it. Congrats. Might tear ours down this winter and throw some parts at it. Although it runs pretty good for now.

    A great job restoring that that was basically a how-to guide on the whole bike you seem to know a lot about pwat set I recently acquired a twat knock-off it's a Marshin 80 I basically got it with just the motor in the frame I basically got it all together the only problem I'm having is figuring out how to hook up the stator to the CDI and then to the ignition coil any help would be greatly appreciated

    Really sorry but bike manuals etc have long been sold, what is it you are stuck on? I take it no lighting, charging or electric start circuits, so you just have field windings, to cdi unit, from cdi to ignition coil and kill switch.

    The channel has been a little static lately. Not that i dont have a line up of jobs/videos to do. We have sold our house and currently renting a dump with no room, we are awaiting a move in date on our new pad with a bit more land, so fingers crossed we can go bigger and better with the videos. Appreciate the positive comments, cheers, all the best...

    My son has a 99, it runs well but raising seat height with x tender and cnc triple clamp with new bars. Clutch ball mod was a good mod for shifting rpm for my son's bike. Drill air box and take out exhaust silencer and head restrictor was a good mod too. So far bike has been bullet proof! 👍

    Hi Pete, when you say ball mod, did you put in or take out or weight change, im intrigued. Exhaust washer remove is compulsory isn't it? lols, Yes a bullet proof bike, cracking bike for a kid.

    @@TinkerBod I removed 4 of the I believe 12 balls and re arranged the configuration to sets of 2 balls spaced evenly. When this is done it won't shift so hard and lose rpm, it allows it to clutch alot more. I did try spacing all out evenly but I prefer the sets of 2 balls side by side spaced evenly. Very easy to do, just take out clutch plates and you will see them below. Just use a pair of needle nose pliers and re configure. Do this with the bike laying on its side. Way easier that way. Good luck!

    @@TinkerBod I even used my dremel tool and ported the head pipe and that was a huge improvement as well over the stock pipe. The exhaust restrictor gasket when removed leaves a 1/8 " flange wall that can be opened up and smoothed out. Good luck!

    i was taught the spring on an oil seal must face the highest pressure - ie the crank rather than the lower pressure engine / gearbox oil.

  • @TinkerBod

    @TinkerBod

    4 жыл бұрын

    100% Agreed but with 2 strokes the seals often have two springs/two lips forward and rear facing, these ones were marked outside as in the vid but also if you think the low pressure side is the crankcase as it draws the air/fuel mix through the carb/reeds into the case, the compression is only done on the compression stroke once the fuel is in the chamber and the intake port has been blocked off by the rising piston. If they were the other way around or had only one lip there is a chance it could draw oil from the gearbox, air from the alternator. I had to sit and think a bit myself especially at the price of the seals i did not want to screw it up.

    Lols, drags with my fat arse, more like slips and burns. Whoever was on it, It drags when engaging first even at very low revs, increase revs and then bites and stalls, it was a mixture of clutch along with crank seals,, tune, piston and just a general negligence and neglect by the previois owner. Its been running perfectly since, all the best 👍

  • @TinkerBod

    @TinkerBod

    The ones on our bike were rubber bushes correct for this year,, not sure on other years, you say bearings so im a little thrown, You can make a extractor which pulls them out but that said if they are bushes with these they will be corroded in so, use a hole saw to cut a core out, a size suitable to cut only the rubber as close to the od as possible, once done with your hacksaw blade passed through the newly cut core very carefully cut the od of the bush without cutting the swinger arm. Once cut use penetrative oil and fold and tap out. Are you really sure they need changing and its not play in the frame or the long bolt is loose. Good luck 👍

    Thanks, The foot pegs were off ebay and are for a rip off pw80, baja I think? and are identical to the genuine, be careful as some are chocolate. The shock was also just a random ebay looking at shock lenghs. I cant remember which bike but it definitely was not for a pw80. 👍

    @TinkerBod shock been good enough quality and come with a spring suited for youth rider? My worry about finding a random 290 shock is that it'll be a "pit bike shock" with adult spring rate. My kid will be riding in the woods haha

    Hi there, great video, jus watched both. where did you get all the parts? sounds like you are in the UK, so am I, but not sure where to get parts? straight from Yamaha? got my little girl a pw80 and its smoking like a train, white smoke, so i'm guessing crank seals... thanks.

  • @TinkerBod

    @TinkerBod

    4 жыл бұрын

    Thanks, pw80 is a great bike for a kid, can be given right grief and is a excellent starting bike hot or cold. All parts were purchased from fowlers of bristol, really good service and cheap for genuine parts even when on back order. Non genuine parts were piston rings and pin, oil tank and pump, stand all these were off ebay, dont mix the cheap pistons with the quality ones, there are loads of crap ones on there. White smoke is normally gearbox oil. Go for the crank seals (genuine) with fingers crossed and change the piston if history is not known. After that its all down hill and a right pain. All the best with it its a lovely bike to work on a your daughter will find it very easy and forgiving to ride, after fitting new clutch it was so smooth. 👍
