    Great first bike and when the throttle is buried in the ground revving its guts out and it does not blow you will realise what a great first bike you have purchased, been there a number of times through my kids and always amazed me how it just kept going, safe riding to you all, great days ahead....

    Great and informative video! Very clear and well explained (even with the English accent 😉) I just bought one for my son.. it seems they all need some work. Someone too heavy was riding this one and damaged the rear monoshock. Just waiting on the mail now! Has your daughter been enjoying the bike, now that you have it all fixed up?

    Cheers for the comments, Without sounding soft I get more enjoyment watching the kids ride than i do myself especially when your have built it up yourself. Best thing i ever brought them. Both my daughters have their own bikes now. Its brought the kids closer and keeps them off their bloody phones, Special times and happy days....

    Great video mate, thanks for taking the time to show all these little bits that you’ve been looking into. I’ve just picked one up for my daughter too. If it’s not too rude to ask, I’m just wondering what you initially paid for the bike and how much your overhaul came to? Also, how do I find out what year it is? The guy I got it off isn’t sure.

    Have you watched part 2, its even more detailed. The purchase and all repairs/genuine parts where possible came to £365. As for the year, i had to phone up a yamaha dealer with the VIN at the headset, their are two formats over the years, the one is harder than the other, this was mine been the shorter one. The other can be deciphered using the internet forums etc or again just phone a dealer. Good Luck they are a great little bike.

    What steering head bearing kit part number did you order? I can't find anything matching bearings for any year PW80. I'm in the process of doing a rebuild similar to yours and your videos have been great.

    Thanks appreciate the positive comment, I used these, but please be warned you may have to do the mods i did, they are not the straight forward replacement they say they are, www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Steering-Head-Bearings-Seals-for-Yamaha-PW80-83-06/390602727024?epid=1125297062&hash=item5af1bc9e70:g:J~MAAOSwgkRVSIih or use the standard type style www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Yamaha-PW80-Head-Stock-Steering-Bearings-Stem-Race-Bearing-Set/173613947997?hash=item286c329c5d:g:KkEAAOSwo3Bb1zMu you can get the genuine standard ones too, its what i would have gone for if i did not fit the taper rollers Good luck with it, hope it turns out well...

    Quite a catalogue of problems. Nicely sorted. What's your method of tightening/undoing the Allen bolt in the fork bottom, without turning the fork tube?

  • @TinkerBod

    @TinkerBod

    4 жыл бұрын

    Do you mean the alloy cast outer tube? If so tape up the flats where the spindle bolt goes through and clamp them in a vice. Its easy on a road bike because where the caliper bolts can be clamped up. if the inner steel fork tube spins get a block of wood drill out the center slightly under the od of the inner fork and then split the wood along its length down the center line of the drilled hole and use this to clamp the inner fork in the vice. These methods have never failed me or marked anything.

    @@TinkerBod yes, I meant the steel inner piston tube, the piece the Allen bolt screws into. I used a piece of wood too.

    What rear shock are you going to use? My PW80 sits very low in the rear and I wonder if a new OEM shock will take care of that issue? I rather use OEM Yamaha parts but their rear shock is $130 USD vs $30+ for aftermarket. Great video by the way!!! Cheers...

    Have you watched the second part? It shows it all finished including a bit on the shocks, OEM shocks are very low on the rear, i purchased a aftermarket standard length shock and yes its low, watch the second bit and let me know if you have any questions.

  • @TinkerBod

    @TinkerBod

    4 жыл бұрын

    No im afraid not, sorry. Start with 1.5 turns out on the mixture, play around with the idle (set it high), just get it started and work from there get adjusting mixture and lowering idle as you go. Have you watched the second part I thought a mumbled something in that one, but could be wrong, all the best...

    @@TinkerBod HI there, I watched both videos, both are great by the way thank you for sharing. You say above that " You are doing the right thing if doing away with the oil pump." I thought you installed an oil pump during your build. I'm now doing a top end kit for my boy's PW80 and planned on leaving the oil pump as-is. Did you take your oil pump off? Thanks again, very nice videos to watch. Cheers,

  • @TinkerBod

    Not sure what you are asking, does it have a spark now? or did have and you lost it suddenly. Its very hard to say without having the bike but if it was sudden check earth and supply paths to the coil. Such as kill switches, disconnected wiring, damaged wiring, pulled HT leads as long as you are sure plug and gaps are good. This is a great cheap manual for this bikes and has a good section on the electrics haynes.com/en-gb/yamaha/pw80/1991-2006
