X-Files The Movie: A Perfect Ending To The Series

Фильм және анимация

The movie serves as a bridge between the end of season five and the beginning of season six. The X-Files have officially been shut down, and Mulder and Scully have to act according to protocol. Yawn. Been there, done that. Nothing is going to stop Spooky Mulder from continuing to be Spooky- not even mundane FBI work. With that said, let's find out if we were prepared, or had been prepared, to Fight the Future.

This is a great movie. It was originally going to serve as the series finale, leaving on a cliffhanger where Mulder will fight for the truth and fight the future. However, executives at Fox wanted to do 4 more seasons of the series.

I LOVED this movie! We were huge X-Files fans and I'm not sure this movie could have been done any better. Tied into the series while allowing non-X Files watchers to jump right in and enjoy it. Great tension. Scully got to really step up her in charge vibe. That first 30 minutes or so is borderline flawless film making. Sets the hook (the BC bit) leads into today with the kids in Texas and the whole building bomb portion... chef's kiss! Taut film making! So good!

As a fan of Millennium, I am gutted that Chris Carter had forsaken this series to go and make the first X-Files movie. (The behind-the-scenes making of Millennium goes more into this.) But I can't deny the film is excellent. Though it's confusing to see Terry O'Quinn playing a character who isn't his Millennium character, Peter Waits - complete with his classic pencil moustache.

My Beloved dragged me into The Files, kicking and screaming. She has seen every episode many times. It is hard to deny the humor and good nature of it all... I liked the movie. We made sure to see it in the theater and I have watched it on TV a few times. Those two are a great paring, Mulder and Scully. Good stuff. Nice review...

I'm pretty sure Samantha Mulder's file was the only one not burned to a crisp, since the CSM took it with him before setting the X-Files office on fire at the end of season 5. As for the movie, I think it's quite enjoyable and very well shot. The production design is stunning. However, I was always bugged by the absurd amount of small coincidences in the plot, but specially the first, bigger one. Mulder is grudgingly brought into a response team to a bomb threat. Fine. Except, wouldn't you know, this particular bomb threat just so happens to have been engineered by the very Syndicate of which his own father was a part of and which he has been investigating for 5 seasons, I mean, years. And then Mulder just so happens to head into the vending machine room right as the MIB responsible for planting the bomb is leaving and, of all the machines inside, he tris the one in which the bomb is planted. It's cute and all, but come on. Though I can see how AFTER the bomb set piece the investigation continually puts Mulder and Scully in the position to witness further coincidences - the train passing by at the right moment, the noromo bee, the hole on the ship that leads Mulder straight to Scully -, wouldn't it make more sense, at least at the start, for Mulder to have been anonymously tipped on the bomb threat by, say, Kurtzweil, and then have maneuvered his way into the threat response team and then become a suspect of whatever Gwyneth's mom was rambling about and then start his rogue investigation into the case? I guess the writers wanted a more lighthearted introduction to the characters so Mulder needed to be initially unaware of what was actually going on, but as a fan of the show, I found it kind of beneath him to be so clueless. I also dislike how Scully is once again turned into a victim for Mulder to save at the end. If it's not an alien abduction, it's a serial killer kidnapping; if not that, it's terminal cancer; if not that, it's a freaking bee with an alien virus; if not that, it's being pregnant with a messiah alien baby. I mean, I get the appeal to turn Mulder into the movie's action star, but It always made more sense to me for Mulder to get into whatever sticky situation he puts himself in and then have Scully be the one who has to save him, like in episodes such as Little Green Men, End Game, 731 or Demons. Maybe a movie is not the best place to do that, but in the first theatrical outing of the franchise I didn't like seeing Scully robbed of her agency.

There are two types of people in this world: Those that watch "X-Files," and those that do not. I, like many other critics who walked into "The X-Files" movie, fall into the latter category. But it doesn't matter, because I don't believe that there are any real twists in the plot or "revelations" like the extended title implies there may be. In fact, I think that even the strict fans of the television show may be a bit in the dark by the time the credits start to roll. I got lost about 2/3 of the way through, but I still had a fun time. Scully and Mulder, the two FBI Agents (I think) from the famous television show of the same name, make their big-screen debut in a feature-length, theatrical film release that plays much more like a clever science fiction film than a stupid one. I do not claim to be a huge fan of the science-fiction genre -- I like softer sci-fi such as "The Terminator" -- but I admire the hard sci-fi films that make an effort to reach those of us who many not be the most enthusastic sci-fi geeks. "The X-Files" has a harder task -- it has to reach those who not only have never seen the show, but also those who may not love sci-fi too much, and it does a good job. I admire it above all else for being able to do this.Mulder and Scully are drawn into an elaborate plan, a plan for alien colonisation.

I'm actually going through the series for the first time in years, & I of course watched the movie between seasons 5 & 6. I've never been a fan to be honest, but I mostly enjoyed it this time. One of my problems is that it kinda feels like a generic blockbuster. It also does repeat ideas previously seen, like the deadly bees. The gestating aliens just draws comparisons to Alien, & its just not as great as what is seen in the Ridley Scott, or James Cameron films. Watching it again this time, I thought the interior of the space ship reminded me of trying to be something so otherworldly & unsettling as the derelict ship seen in Alien (not a criticism, just an observation). While I did enjoy it seeing it this time, I still don't think its a great movie. It could have just been another multi part mythology episode. I just don't think it feels like a real cinematic experience. Just compared to Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me, which is pure cinema. I am in the minority, but I actually liked the sequel movie more, which I think is better than its reputation. If the series ended with this movie, we would have missed out on a lot of amazing episodes or moments. I'm up to season 8, but the moment from season 7 where Mulder got closure with Samantha is still affecting me. I also really like the character John Doggett. While I am not the biggest fan of this movie, its not the low point of the series. Season 7 is honestly at its weakest, but there are still some great episodes in it. It just became too goofy & lighthearted at times, which sometimes worked (The Goldberg Variation & The Amazing Maleeni), & other times didn't (Fight Club, although I don't hate it, as there are moments I enjoy, but it is just way too OTT in goofiness). I know it comes off as I am bashing this movie. I don't dislike it as much as I used to, but I'm not one of its biggest fans either.

I love the series and Fight The Future, and I always thought they were going to wrap up the mythological arc with a big movie in 2012 (year set for the alien invasion according to the show), but no... They basically made another long but boring episode for cinemas and made a revival which retconned the story and ended worst than Game of Thrones, just no one cared by that moment... Thanx!!!

X-Files Fight the Future is a very well done movie and I felt they did a good job with the story and I saw the movie in the theater when it came out. The movie still holds up. I can't say the same about the second movie though. I wish they did more X-Files movies instead of the season 10 and 11. Not that I didn't like them I just feel that season 10 and 11 are not as good as the show and the first movie was. I think they should have ended the show after season 6.

I was really disappointed in the movie when it came out. I don't think I've seen it since. I just wish they hadn't gone with the Alien conspiracy for the movie. The one weakness of the X-Files was the alien conspiracy. There were some great alien stories in the show but the conspiracy angle ended up so full of holes that it became annoying. The movie does have its moments (Terry O'Quinn steals the show) I just wish they'd gone with a clean, self-contained story for the movie.

I hate Chris Carter and I wasn’t much of a fan of this movie. However, I was so discontented with this movie that I went home and started writing my own narrative. I left the first draft on the shelf until about 2010 when my mother passed away. That year made me realize that I could die myself at any time. After I rewrote my book, it sat on the shelf until about three months ago. I’m going to release it this year. There will be a lot of true life events of my own. I’ve had a close relationship with the paranormal for my entire life. Theres none of That skeptic bullshit like Chris Carter. I have first-hand knowledge that at least the ghosts and the alien shit is real. I can’t speak to worm men or sewer creatures, or werewolves or vampires. The X-Files overall is a pretty good series. I give it three out of five stars. However, that last movie I give it zero out of five stars. The season 10 and 11 it’s total trash, and I think it was me just an attempt to discredit the first nine seasons of The X-Files. Considering what we have heard from the government it seems that X-Files was closer than we thought to real life as far as aliens. When I see videos of anybody, questioning, whether alien life is real, I immediately block their channel and give them a thumbs down. The government does not just go around, saying aliens are real for no reason. They may not have had good intentions, but they finally admitted that people who claim to see aliens, were not all kooks and crackpots.
