@@schmuelking1535 his accent was unbearable, his makeup looked really lazy, the story seemed to go basically nowhere, and the ending was bloated CGI nonsense. I'll admit, it's been a long time since I watched it. But I remember wicked prayer actually made sense most of the time, and Edward furlong as the crow worked for me. And it didn't need a bunch of effects that would have looked shitty back then. Maybe it's just because I watched that one right after the original for the first time, but I thought it was at least as good as salvation.

I honestly think City of Angels and Salvation are vastly underrated. CoA has amazing cinematography and a killer tone, while Salvation has a unique premise that gives a new spin on the classic formula. I'm even optimistic about the remake! Because at the end of the day, rock bottom already has a name: Wicked Prayer.

The Crow Salvation film wasn't too bad. Eric Mabius was a decent Crow. The car chase with the helicopters and the Rob Zombie music was my favorite scene hands down.

my issue with the 3rd film is it's more of a Batman villain origin story than a Crow flick. it doesn't have that fairy tale energy that the original (and yes, the 2nd, being kind of a copy) had. so while I enjoy it, it didn't feel like the successful Crow sequel many are still waiting for

Edward Fuhrlong is a JOKE in Wicked Prayer. Everything IN that movie is a joke.

That’s not even the worst Crow film, compared to Wicked Prayer it’s a masterpiece.

Honest list of how i Think it will end up on the list. 1. The Crow "original classic" 10/10 no words needed... chefs kiss of a movie 😘🤌 2. The Crow: Stairway To Heaven "tv-series 1 season, 22 episodes" (honestly this came the closest to brandon much thanks to Mark Dacascos and he really fitted the Eric Draven part. Sadly this was made before quality tv came into fruition. Would prob work really good with todays budget! 3. The Crow City of angels, (honestly I liked it, the look and feel of the movie was cool felt like a fever dream.) 4. The Crow (remake) (yeah i think it´s gonna sit here with fans, right smack in the middle which honestly isnt good at all.) 5. The Crow Salvation (only think good about this movie was the soundtrack which was kickass! Filter The best things is a track I still listen to today.!) 6. The Crow Wicked prayer. ( wow just wow.....)

Salvation is a guilty pleasure of mine. The soundtrack is great. I really liked the “pull over” scene, the formula is changed up a little, and there are some small bits of good dialog. But I always thought Mabius came off as really awkward. He looks like Ronald McDonald and his delivery was WAAAAY too over the top.

Part of that was intentional. The character of Alex is supposed to be younger than Eric Draven, and unlike the latter he was only dead for a short time. So when he comes back, he doesn't have the same point of view. The filmmakers also wanted to show him enjoying his powers a little more, almost taunting the corrupt cops with them.

You think THIS is worse than Wicked Prayer??? Dude... I'm looking at you a little different now 😅

The second best one has to be the show with Mark Dacasco, he even looks like Brandon Lee.

I tried watching Stairway to Heaven. Dacascos was natural to take on the role, and being a fan of Highlander The Series, I thought it would be fun. Nope. It sucked. It did also make the trademark Crow makeup into sort of a supernatural death mask that would just appear, and the main villain in the pilot episode I guess was also brought back from the dead and thus the markings appeared on him as well. It was an unfortunately poor take, but at least didn't take a giant crap on the original. It TRIED to honor the original, but simply wasn't good enough to pull it off. That said, I highly recommend checking out a show called The Middleman. It's EXTREMELY nerdy, but also features Mark Dacascos as Sensei Ping, and martial arts expert in a luchadore mask. It's hilarious, and a delight to see Dacascos getting to cut loose as a goofball.

It wasn't makeup but scars this time. I remember it being featured in Fangoria before it released and the director said the scars are caused by the mask he wore weirdly enough. It's not great but it's also not as bad as it's made out to be.

Yeah, in the first 3 films the facial look made sense. Eric based his on a mask in his loft, Ashe's was done by Sarah as a tribute to Eric, and like you said, Alex's were literally scars from his execution.

@@charlesdavis7285 I read the basic plot of "Wicked Prayer" online, around the time it first came out. I decided to avoid it, primarily because it was basically The Crow vs. Satan. As a Christian, that really bothered me. There's elements of the other films I'm not cool with either, but reading about that made me want to hurl.

There's some cool stuff like Kirsten Dunst having her mouth sewn shut sounds like something Tobey Maguire might say.

It’s way better than Wicked Prayer. I knew Wicked Prayer would be bad when David Boreanez got hit in the back of the head with Deviled Ham

I LOVED The Crow Salvation and Eric Mabius was awesome as Alex Corvis. I hard disagree that this was bad. The OG Crow and #3 were great.

This was the best of the sequels, and I actually really like this movie! It definitely has its problems but I enjoy watching this one from time to time. As far as the "turning into the crow" thing, I think they were trying to go with that thing about "the crow carries a soul"... I dunno. This is where I go with it. And I remember hearing that the crow makeup under the burnt flesh was SUPPOSED to be scratches made from Corvis while he dug at his own face. It was just done too poorly. The score was also a lot of fun! A decent watch overall in my own opinion.

They hinted at that concept in the first film, by having the bird show up and then Eric appears from nowhere. "Salvation" just made it more plain.

I will say this I really enjoyed this one when it came out I still watch this one from time to time not as religiously as the 1994 classic though

Salvation is by no means a bad film. It has flaws, but taking risks and approaching things like how he received his "crow" markings are fresh and creative. This kind of attempt is welcome in my book. Let's not judge the new film until we've seen it, it could be what we've been waiting for.

I actually liked certain aspects of "Salvation". My biggest complaints were the gore and the raunch factor, both of which the original film kept to a minimum. James O'Barr even praised Eric Mabius' performance, while also saying that he felt "the rest needed a lot of work." I hadn't seen Kirsten Dunst in much up to that point, mainly just "Interview With The Vampire" and "Jumanji". But she was really good in this, and her scenes with Mabius were believable. My favorite moment with them is when Alex uses his powers to show Erin the last moments of Lauren's life, and how much she fought against her killers. His line to her after that was perfect - "She fought for her life, because life is worth living. Think about that...and then tell me again how much you wish you were dead."

Am I the only one who thinks Eric Mabius would've made a good live action Max Payne? Think about it: Mr. Mabius looks like Max from the 1st game, he has the voice (btw, nobody can replace late great James McCaffrey) & he can act, unlike Mark Wahlberg.

If you think Salvation is worse than Wicked Prayer, I really don't know what to say. At least in Salvation, some things happen. City Of Angels may have been really good if the studio didn't hack it to death.

Agreed Wicked Prayer was cringe. Start to finish.

Salvation only had bad dialogue ("You are so dead!") The film was otherwise solid if nothing special. The soundtrack & score were great as usual & there were some nice touches such as the face "make up" being burn scars from the execution. Plus it had Fred Ward as the villain so how can you not enjoy at least that?

City Of Angels, Salvation And Wicked Prayer I Didn't Even Bother With Those Sequels The Crow (1994) I'll Just Stick With The Original.

I think you missed the point of the flesh peeling scene I thought of it as a butterfly, an undead, regenerating butterfly stripping away its previous form to become something new. The crow makeup ISNT makeup, its actually the flesh that still remains that he didnt peel off. Although it was awkwardly done a bit, characters within the movie call it makeup cause thats what it looks like :D

That isn't meant to be make-up on his face. He looks like they took inspiration from the original comic and gave him facial scars and kept his skin pale and lips blue because he's dead.

Salvation is better than City of Angels and literally anything is better than the travesty that was Wicked Prayer. But in all honesty nothing will ever beat the original, Brandon Lee’s performance will never be duplicated or beat. RIP Brandon ♥️

I feel like The Crow experiences the similar studio issues as Hellraiser, as in corporate media executives make their decisions based on broad appeal and polish rather than creative merit, cultural significance or even high regard from a paying audience, because that high regard might make it divisive.Same thing with music, I hear people say there is no good new music, I say there is lots but the scope of artistic bandwidth is funnelled towards the corporate hegemony, its why we now have web.2.0 so culture can be sold as a plastic commodity. Art still exists but it may mean typing into a search bar instead of clicking... as a start, but my rant has been long enough, I am sure the new movie will be fine, the aesthetic looks tighter than most of the sequels, solid cast, the trap aesthetic isn't my thing, but I am sure I will take the good and leave out the bad like the rest of the series, the novels and other crow comics are also rad, it didn't end with Draven.

I feel like a fair number of films like Hellraiser 5-8 were perfectly fine, but wholly unremarkable horror films that got adopted into Hellraiser films to give them more recognition, but ultimately dragged the franchise farther down. The last few films were just dreadfully soulless throwaways for the studios to hold on to the film rights. the '22 revamp was a very solid entry, though, and a great sign of the series coming back from the brink.

Lets not forget The Crow TV series, Stairway to Heaven, with Mark Dacascos. You should do an episode on that!

Would a been cool to see the lil girl from the original crow comeback and have somethin happen to her to where she becomes the crow a female version would get some hate but the fact she knew Eric and Shelly it would a still been cool to see imo

I actually liked Salvation. I still watch it every once in awhile. It was much better than COA and Wicked Prayer and the soundtrack wasn't half bad.

It's gonna make both Salvation and City of Angels look like masterpieces.

City Of Angels is better than any of the crap that came after it. Was more faithful to the Comic too, believe it or not. I didn't outright hate this one, but I definitely didn't like it.

Once i learned about the Weinsteins buthering of City of Angels I have liked it more than I did, I thought it had potential when I first watched it but could sense something was missing from meddling in the post production and that was confirmed when Joblo did a video about how the Weinsteins had messed with the story. Wish we could get the original cut of City of Angels.

In my teen years quality movies like the crow were standard. In hindsight it is a movie with nearly every scene being an iconic artpiece

I've seen some absolutely delusional comments about the original film in the last few weeks. Insane shit like "Brandon sacrificed himself for the film." There are genuinely people who think that he planned to die.

This one wasn't that terrible for me. I enjoyed seeing more from the The Crow storyline.

The crow franchise alongside a couple of other films, is permanently scarred with the "There can be only one" curse. Although that would sound better for the Highlander franchise, it is basically the best way to describe the failures of the sequels with one phrase.

I'm guessing that after TV series, where the makeup indicated that Eric entered basically super Saiyan mode, they just gave up on trying to explain it. Now it's just a part of the attire/power set. Although for some reason Wicked Prayer once again tried to justify its existence (skipping the fact that the end result looked like a poor man's cosplay of Bellatrix Lestrange or any other gothic-like character portrayed by Helena Bonham Carter).

I just recently rewatched The Crow: Salvation. I had watched years ago after seeing the first and wanted to watch the sequels and judge them for myself. After seeing a second time I can say it’s not good I’ve seen worse tho. Has some interesting ideas, some interesting characters and setups but the writing feels kinda falls flat. Instead of being a well written movie script it feels like made for television movie or mini series writing. If the writing had some more solid areas here and there with the setups actually making interesting sense by playing well with the idea they bring up I think the film would be more entertaining and less dead.

I remember renting this at Family Video, solely because Kirsten Dunst was in it. Mind you, this is before I saw the original (somehow), and after City of Angels. So I thought that it was... okay. Still, I've literally only watched it the one time, though.

I wonder how Mark Dacascos dis as The Crow, he is quite good actor.

I thought this was the better out of the sequels. Wicked prayer was so bad the first time he appeared with makeup on I almost choked to death.

Original Crow, both physically and portrayal, was a badass. Every version since, is trying to act like one. That is not even close to the only difference, of course, but it begins and ends with that, for me.

So we're just going to act like wicked prayer never happened.. as much as I would like to do the same thing, I would watch salvation 100 times over if given the choice between the two.

This is the best of the sequels. Part 2 was a 3/10. Part 4 was a 4/10 and this movie was easy a 6/10.

The Crow Salvation was the best sequel we've gotten! Get your head out of your rear!

Salvation was my favorite of the sequels. I understand it's not a great movie, but I enjoyed the different angle of the protagonist being killed for the murder of his girlfriend that he didn't commit. Fans would have been much kinder to the remake if they just would have renamed the main characters. There is only one Eric Draven and one Shelly Webster, and they were in the OG Crow (1994).

I wasn't against them using the same character names - its just the look of the whole thing was completely wrong. The haircut, all the tattoos...it just didn't fit. Plus, the violence was so extreme I was truly sickened. The first film wasn't that gross overall, and still got its point across.

Yes it can. Salvation was okay for something made on a tiny budget.

City of Angels is good though. Even as a direct sequel/same universe movie as the first one, it still manages to be its own thing. Plus Vincent Perez looked like a tall creepy boogey man and I liked his weird accent. The only really bad thing about COA is the horrendous yellow piss filter they covered the movie in. I dunno wtf they were thinking with that. Other than that, it's a pretty good movie.

Whoaaaa, each new Crow movie is better than the previous ones. Great movie review!

The crow salvation is actually pretty good, and has my favorite crow look of the sequels, the only good thing about wicked prayer was David Boreanaz.

I’ve always defended “City Of Angels” I felt like it was more of a horror movie instead of a revenge movie. The bad guys in city of angels were completely out their minds. Iggy pop as curve. Thomas Jane as the pervert Nemo and the yellow ranger as the sadist. I thought Vincent Perez killed it as Ash, not to mention Mia Kishner as Sara. Last but not least it also had a badass soundtrack.

This video feels like it was written as a "hate for the sake of hating" piece, instead of the "fun but heartfelt critique" we usually get from JoBlo. I think this is the first time I've given a JoBlo video a thumbs down. As for the movie itself- In my opinion, "Salvation" isn't even close to the worst of the sequels. That dishonor will always belong to "Wicked Prayer".

Eric Mabius is one of that eras premiere charisma vacuums. There is a scene in this where someone asks him where he came from and his reading of "Primordial ooze, divine hand of a benevolent creator? All possibilities." is literally one of the worst line readings I have EVER heard in my life. It lives in the pool house of my brain rent free.

The first crow was phenomenal The second crow was ok/good The third crow was….eh The fourth crow movie……….Wicked Prayer…….you ever seen something so terrible that you couldn’t come up with enough words to describe how terrible it is?

I had always keep forgetting this one was released in a theater and it was Spokane! I live in Liberty Lake now but i lived in Spokane Valley right by Spokane for 10.5 years . I always laugh though when people mispronounce the name 😁 the proper pronunciation is like the Native American/Indigenous tribe, it is pronounced Spo-can, the spo-kain or spo-caine is more of the Midwest pronunciation due to the census designated place in Missouri. Ironically though I still have never got around to watching this sequel to The Crow. Only seen the original and City of Angels.

What's weird is the remake looks closer to Salvation than the original.

City of Angels was the promising following from a passionate upcoming director that was butchered by studio notes just to make it “more like the first one again Salvation has its editing problems at times and some lines don’t quite sound right but still has cool visuals at times and plays with the standard formula in a few ways to make it feel fresh Wicked Prayer……… even though the new one isn’t out yet I guarantee you it’ll be way better than that sequel was since that’s probably the lowest this franchise ever got when it came to the movie side of things

@@schmuelking1535 You know what, you're absolutely correct.. Wicked Prayer is some kind of evil punishment.

I used to have issues with reboots and the dead horse Hollywood continues to beat. What I come to understand though is a lot of people younger than myself have never seen Brandon lee's crow and don't have any idea about the crow itself. Now with a reboot, good or bad, it opens the doors to more people taking the time to watch the original. I'm rooting for the new one, I hope it's good.

Please watch the original with Brandon Lee. It's coming out in 4K steelbook this year. This is Brandon's legacy. The awful trailer with Skarsgard touches none of the dark comics. If anything, the reboot should make you realize the 1994 movie & soundtrack rock. Plus the younger generation will walk away from the new version & wonder why everyone likes 1994 version so much imo.
