Is the entire cap including the painted part made of wood? I am hoping to recreate the cap for my canteen.

I like the bullet hole also, gives it character.

I have one my dad brought back from the Philippines. That one is interesting with the bullet hole.

Dang, that's a fine piece... for all we know the dark area on the strap could be blood! Seriously, Japanese (meaning nationality) collectors I believe would go crazy over that canteen. Anyone that doesn't FEEL the history with that artifact in his hands or just looking at it, just doesn't get it. Did I see an exit/entry hole on the bottom? In any case it's an amazing find! I got chills, and could imagine so many combat scenarios!
