🏁 WTAC 101 - Haltech's Guide to Time Attacking

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

While we love cars that go fast in a straight line, there's no denying the appeal of cars that have been purpose-built to go fast around corners.
Time Attack is the domain of big aero, huge horsepower engines and insanely quick lap times. The pinnacle event of the international time attack is the World Time Attack Challenge. Held annually at the Sydney Motorsport Park, WTAC attracts the world's fastest time attack cars and as such proved the perfect backdrop for this video.
In this introduction to the world of time attack we take a brief look at its history, explain the differences between the classes and chat to a bunch of drivers to get a feel of what it's like to compete at WTAC.
If you're not already a fan, you will be after watching this video:)

    The beard is back !!! Congratulations on the facial foliage. As always, great vid Richard ! What I know about cars could fill a few post-it notes, but very informative and I think need to learn more about the sport because I think it would be a lot of fun.

    Great video. I'd like to make it across the pond for a WTA event, definitely a life goal. To answer your question, Sir, I am building an EG civic hatch for Global Time Attack here in the US. These videos get me so excited to keep going on my car. I will make it happen one way or another. Already got the Haltech Elite 1500 to manage my sleeved 84mm B18c engine. Just need a cage, to make my aero package and get some track time.

    idin1976 none of the drivers are considered pro by CAMS or FIA standards. There is no rule that the owner must drive the car though.

    I was thinking they should add a class that's almost entirely unrestricted, except that it has to be road-legal while setting the lap., so no big aero or slick swaps in the pits. Then I realised that would make international competition impossible.

    Most rowdy RX8 ive ever heard. hot damn, bunch of pissed off wasps in a box of honey bees. We're working on a Time Attack 93 Ford Crown Victoria with a 2012 GT500 5.4l V8 and ton of wind research and about everything from ADTR.net for parts ADTR has the largest selection of aftermarket Panther body performance parts. So far, it makes about 700hp on a tremec 5 speed and have found about 1000lbs of aero down force with aftermarket stuff. the car curbs at 3700lbs wet. and the cage will add weight so will the fuel cell, shooting for 24 gallons as we want the car to do 400 mile trips. currently sits on a 20 gallon tank and does about 380 highway on that tank. tall gear made the stock 200hp struggle All Haltech ran just rear suspension stuff lost a second in the 1/4 mile 13.8 vs 14.9 on stock gearing and engine......well headers and a slight tune by me... call it 20hp increase over stock

    Okay the fastest lap wins? So just racing?

  • @haltech

    @haltech

    Жыл бұрын

    Well, not quite. In door-to-door racing the fastest lap gives you the pole place on the starting grid but that's about it. In the actual race you just need to be the first across the finish line, your actual lap time is not relevant.

  • @slowpoke96Z28

    @slowpoke96Z28

    Жыл бұрын

    Well "just racing" entails someone else on the track with you. For example, if you tell people you raced this weekend and won, people are going to say who did you race against. If you say no one, most people will say okay you didn't race or beat anybody. You just drove really fast. These guys are only competing against the clock, all alone. Totally different experience. Like compare driving fast in traffic vs the same road alone at 3 in the morning.

    There are so many different strategies to get to the same lap time. Different cars are faster through different parts of the track. Racing door to door would just be chaos and prove nothing.

    Open class is so far from open you forgot to mention all the restrictions with aero and all the other shitty rules

  • @haltech

    @haltech

    5 жыл бұрын

    The Regs for each class is a 15 page document. We only covered the basics here, mainly to show the differences between classes. The aero restrictions in the Open class are obviously aimed at setting it apart from the Pro / ProAm.
