If you only knew what Freddie went through physically in order to deliver this “swan song” performance. It’s chilling to know what Freddie was battling and gave his fans one last epic vocal performance IN ONE COMPLETE TAKE! I love this song for those reasons. Thank you for getting around to this one!

Yes, exactly why the video is just a montage of previous footage. Freddie was probably gone by the time it could be pieced together. As an 80s teenager the Innuendo album still breaks my heart and makes me sing out loud every time.

Hey, just an FYI/clarification on that "just one take": Fred didn't actually do the WHOLE song in one take (I know, most people think that he did, based on Brian's story in an interview). The story Brian shared was regarding the section of the song near the end that's full of REALLY HIGH notes... Brian was afraid the high notes would hurt Fred's throat. Fred replied "I'll F_____g do it, Darling!" ...He downed some vodka, and sang that really high section all-in-one-go.😇

As some one who suffers with two chronic illnesses that cause pain, nausea and extreme exhaustion, every time I think I can’t do something, I think of Freddie, literally dying of AIDS and barely able to walk, slamming back a glass of vodka and telling Brian “ok I’m gonna f*cking do it.” And recording this song in one single take. Then I get up pull myself together and do what I need to do. I have the word “darling” tattooed on my wrist in his handwriting from a letter he wrote to his fan club the year I was born. Looking at it in my hardest moments or before the multiple surgeries I have to undergo for my illnesses gives me strength and makes me feel that he is with me always in my fight.❤

7:00 - Scientists actually did a study a few years ago, looking at Freddie's voice and what made it so iconic and unique that so many people consider him one of the greatest singers ever. There's more to it than this, but the general reason is that Freddie's voice always retained a baritone vocal quality, even when singing near the top of his range. Freddie had a wide vocal range that went from low baritone all the way up to high tenor. That isn't all *_that_* uncommon in and of itself; many talented singers have ranges that are equally big or even bigger. However, most men with similarly wide ranges naturally sound more baritone/bass-like as they get lower, and more tenor-like as they get higher. Freddie didn't. He always sounded like a baritone, even when singing way up in the tenor range. But not like he was straining to hit the notes... it's just that the timbre of his voice stayed the same. You can see it in sound wave illustrations in the study. It's wild, and really pretty unusual.

One of Freddie Mercury’s last gifts to the world was Queen’s “The Show Must Go On.” Written by Brian May in 1991, the song was the final track on Queen’s Innuendo. HEY GUYS, Just a suggestion about your problems with having Queen videos blocked: Avoid the Official Queen Channel... If you do a YT search for ANY Queen/Freddie Mercury song/official music video/live performance, you can find the VERY SAME VIDEO... with remastered/upgraded HIGHER HD/BETTER video quality, posted from OTHER channels, because there are individual Queen fans out there (who are really talented and might remaster videos in their professional lives, IDK) who take the original videos, remaster/upgrade them, and post them on their own individually-owned channels. These videos are usually further down the YT search algorithm results, because they're newer/have lesser views than the originals from Queen's official channel... but they're actually BETTER quality, and they WON'T be blocked.

It's an anthem for never giving up, but it also leaves you with an inherent recognition of how little time Freddie had. The lyrics are about the need to press on and make the most out of life while you can still enjoy it. It is inevitably a comment on Mercury's worsening condition, and his attitude towards life - May noted his incredible courage in the Days of our Lives documentary. "He never moaned, he never said 'my life is s--t, this is terrible, I hate it,'" said May. "He had an incredible strength and peace."

Hi Jay & Amber. A suggestion to watch is their 15 min at Live Aid. They'd been off touring for a few yrs at the time & with that appearance, which was when the band knew of Freddie's condition, they showed why they were QUEEN! Many critics consider it the best rock performance of all time, which given the many great artists of rock, is saying something. If you could, add that to a future watch. Thanks

The band absolutely did NOT know of Freddie's illness at the time of Live Aid. Freddie *may* have suspected that something was wrong, but Live Aid took place in 1985 and his diagnosis wasn't until 1987. Another reason why people should not get their facts from a made to appeal to the masses Hollywood movie instead of doing their own research.

Queen had just come back from a tour in South Africa and South America right before Live Aid ( _The Works Tour_ ). They admit that part of why they did so well at Live Aid was _because_ they had just done huge stadiums in S. Africa and S. America. And @JollyJiraffe is correct, they did not know Freddie's HIV status yet... Freddie didn't either.

Freddie hit notes, and sang lyrics, even during a late stage of HIV in ways nobody on this earth ever could…. This song is amazing, and he was going through hell physically, more than mentally at all, recording the last songs of his life in the last year (1990-1991) of his life

Just as a side note: when Jay and Amber pause the video, the image they stop on, the rings around the woman's head, this is a clip from Fritz Lang's masterpiece movie "Metropolis", made in 1927 and is considered a science fiction masterpiece. The original masters were cut into pieces and parts of the movie subsequently lost, but as footage has been found the movie can now be bought largely complete. How sad it is to think of Freddie's final months, sick and growing weaker as he knew he wasn't long on this earth anymore. But I like to think that he and his bandmates gave the gift of music to so many millions. He lived an incredible life, one that few will ever know. Freddie Mercury aka Farrokh Bulsara, Rest in Peace.

This song was released as a single from the Innuendo album on October 14, 1991. Freddie Mercury died November 24, 1991. Freddie was so sick when they recorded this song that guitarist Brian May, who did most of the writing on this song, doubted he could sing it. He told Brian, "I'll fucking do it," put down his glass of vodka, and went in the studio and flat out nailed it.

I was a HUGE Queen fan, and when I heard of Freddie's diagnoses and his passing within hours of him acknowledging that he had AIDS, I felt like I had lost a close friend or an admired/loved family member. My oldest son got his love of Queen from me, so, years later when he was killed instantly in a workplace accident, I had 3 Queen songs (as well as a few other artist's we both liked) played at his funeral. They were this one (which one of his cousins insisted upon) and the two I knew he loved: "My Bijou" and "Who Wants to Live Forever". Both were from their very last album together, "Innuendo". For me, that album was just a masterpiece, made even more so because Freddie was SO sick and yet he struggled to perform as he did when he was young and healthy. I'm so happy that some of the younger generations are becoming more and more aware of Queen and Freddie.

Brian May said when it came to record the song that he was concerned that Freddie Mercury couldn't manage the vocals as he was sick. When he mentioned this to him, Freddie Mercury took a shot of vodka and said, "I'll fucking do it, darling" and lacerated the vocals. Also, Freddie Mercury did the song in one take. Basically, Freddie Mercury sings from his soul. His voice is powerful and elicits emotion no matter the song.

I absolutely adore this song. It always gets me in the Feels knowing how much pain he was in and how much of it he endured to belt this out and get it recorded and you can just feel it all. Looking at Amber there at the end I could see in her eyes she was feeling it too! Powerful stuff. The other tearjerker from this album is The Days of Our Lives, written as a goodbye to all his fans, knowing he wasn't going to live much longer. 😭 It's a crime that Freddie had to leave this world when he did, how he did. This video is made up of many of their other music vids and as you can see you have a lot of songs to go! I Want To Break Free, I'm Going Slightly Mad, Headlong, Invisible Man, I Want It All, Hammer to Fall, One Vision, the Miracle, etc etc etc. If you ever do Who Wants To Live Forever, please make sure you get the extended cut, not the radio edit, there is some real beauty at the end that gets cut in the short version for no good reason.

The Show Must Go On" is a song by British rock band Queen, featured as the twelfth and final track on their 1991 album, Innuendo. It is credited to Queen, but written mainly by Brian May. The song chronicles the effort of frontman Freddie Mercury continuing to perform despite approaching the end of his life, although his diagnosis with HIV/AIDS had not yet been made public in spite of ongoing media speculation claiming that he was seriously ill. When the band recorded the song in 1990, Mercury's condition had deteriorated to the point that May had concerns as to whether he was physically capable of singing it. May recalls; "I said, 'Fred, I don't know if this is going to be possible to sing.' And he went, 'I'll fucking do it, darling'-vodka down-and went in and killed it, completely lacerated that vocal".
