Gary Numan was ground breaking. When 'Are Friends Electric' came out bands like OMD, Human League etc were completely dumb founded that he'd charted with a huge hit while they'd spent years trying to break their own electronic sounds. Gary breached the dam and all the others flowed through. Kudos to Gary.

This is a rebel song! First time I heard this was 1989, around the time the Berlin Wall came down, it stopped me in my tracks and I asked J. to "rewind the tape please" so he rwd the cassette - a dub recording from Sandaga market - and I felt as if the world had opened itself to me once again. Some call it an awakening. I call it being 12 years old. Then we had desert tea the mauritanian way and the usual beach bum smoke. Fast times at Dakar High!

In the Beatles, whoever wrote the song sang it, usually. George Harrison wrote this and he sings it. I love his voice, so soft. I love John Lennon's voice too. It had an other worldly quality to it when he did the psychedelic stuff.

My favorites on this album are 'American Tune", different from Simon and Garfunkel's "America". There are some good live versions of it. Also, "Duncan".

Kodachrome was a popular color film manufactured by the Eastman Kodak company, which had been producing camera film for decades. I don't believe that Kodak ever used this song in its advertising, though it would have been a natural. I think Kodak did use a Paul Anka song, Good Morning Yesterday, in its ads in the 1970's.

‘I can read the writing on the wall’ is an homage to the prophet Daniel: ‘Daniel 5:5-29 Suddenly, a person's hand appeared and began writing on the wall. ‘

That bit at the end, where he says, “I saw her” and then stopped, and then continued, was an accident that they left in the recording.

What look into his somewhat newer stuff albums like Memphis with corina corina and rainy night in Georgia, and the dig album with desire and payday and vanishing point and miss riddle and call that love. This man has something from lots of his albums

This song became Madonna's very first Top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song peaked at the #10 spot in the spring of 1984. To me, this song make me a Madonna fan, indeed!!!
