    first part yes absolutely, second part naaaaah UB is fun ^^ maybe liitle supressive in Legacy, but other than that just a natural part of the game. I don't like the strategies R usually employs yet eh so be it, part of the game. (edit nevermind, just got that you meant universes beyond, not Blue Black xD ok that's more reasonable, personally don't have a problem with it, but can somewhat get it. although for me sets like kalrov mannor or thunder junction feel more liek an insult to magic compared to lotr or warhammer)

    @nagsorinaste5658 You know what, you're actually right there. I've been compaing Universes Beyond to older sets. But if you compare it to what's currently available then Universes Beyond is a stand out in terms of quality. I just don't want to play Fortnight the card game, you know?

    A good selection of recomended channels! I struggled to get into pathfinder - it felt to me that the game rules focused more on optimal choices and less around building or fleshing out a character. undoubtibly if everyone in the same group approches with the same attitude I am sure that it would be much more balanced, and as a 5E GM I'd love for there to be more support for running games, but in my own personal experiance there was a huge disparity in characters to hit modifers of our level 1 characters from +4 all the way to +9 and given that a higher to hit is also a higher chance to critically hit it meant that the character with the most to hit not only hits more often, but also more frequently gets bigger numbers. anyway thanks once again for the video!

  • @RedBobcatGames

    @RedBobcatGames

    4 ай бұрын

    No worries. I've heard that line of thought a few times. Ronald the Rules Lawyer I think has even done some videos on it. In my experience of Pathfinder I found that it's a wider game than D&D, and that yeah there are "optimal" actions. But, situations can change so frequently that what's optimal is different turn to turn. For instance, playing a damage dealer, I honestly found that sometimes my best option was to do something completely different. The classic example is just to close a door. Close it, then ready an action to close it again if they try and open it. It means on an opponent's turn they have to waste 2 actions just to get into the room with the party. It's glorious. I think if every encounter is just a blank room with a monster in it, then yeah every fight will play out the same. But that's what I like about Pathfinder, all those extra weird inclusions give the players and world so my more flavour and fun.

    I took the (fire) survey on Bob Worldbuilder's (ice) video, and I answered pretty similarly. On thing I noticed that you probably did is that there's no question "Do you play Dungeons & Dragons?" You took the survey even though you don't anymore, and I took it even though I never have (Always wanted to, but have never had the opportunity.) I'm not counting the hour and a half I spent in an LGS counting ceiling tiles while a Paladin I'd been handed took a nap and then crossed a bridge, both of which I had to roll for. The point being, the survey doesn't have a way to separate the opinions of current players from former or wannabe players, and I'm sure that's messing with the data. I'm now definitely an ex-Magic player as well, and that has as much to do with being unwelcome in the community as it does hating every set printed in the past 3 years. My opinion of WotC and their products is entirely negative now, but I'm not sure I can quantify how much of that is due to Hasbro and how much is due to the people around me.

  • @RedBobcatGames

    @RedBobcatGames

    4 ай бұрын

    @JervisGermane That was tough to read. I've always felt the Magic community has always been pretty accepting. There has been a shift lately in the player base though I think. It seems WotC under Hasbro are courting new audiences and letting older fans wither on the vine. It's all about profits. Sorry to hear about your experiences though. Oh, and yeah you're right. It is weird that anyone could fill in that survey whether they play or not. Probably why they took the official one down so fast

    @@RedBobcatGames You don't have to waste any sympathy on me. My own wife will tell you I'm hard to get along with. I'm opinionated and stubborn, and I come from an opinionated and stubborn family. But I had the same thought regarding the official poll. They might have taken it down because it wasn't giving them meaningful results rather than because it was giving them results they wanted to hide. Still, they might have added in a question or two like that and tried again.

    @@RedBobcatGames I have some videos on my own channel about that, although I'm not going to make any more. In summary, there's a lot of life where I either have no say at all or have to compromise: the economy, politics domestic and international, my job, my religious faith, my relationships with my friends and family, and even my marriage. When it comes to a hobby, which is completely voluntary, if I can't do it in a way I find fun, why do it at all? Especially in a hobby like Magic where I've already spent more than $10k over the decades. What did I spend all that money for? Nobody wants anyone to play the way I want to play. Not just *they* don't want to, they don't want *me* to be able to. I got kicked out of the only other Patreon I was a member of two weeks ago over this. People won't let me pay them money to talk about Magic how I want or play how I want. So I said, that's it, I'm done for good. I'm 39 and too old for these mind games. And I already have my own card game and TTRPG. I don't need anyone else's anymore.

    @@JervisGermane Fair enough, I can respect that. It's a shame Magic is losing older players, but that doesn't sound like it's an issue that'll be your burden anymore. I wish you good luck, and more importantly I hope you find your people. You know? You won't be alone, there will be others out there that share your feelings and will want to play the way you do. I'm very lucky to have some friends that share similar thoughts to myself on the current state of magic. We have our own format I keep meaning to make a video on that basically plays the way we want the game to be played. I'll get round to it at some point I'm sure

    I'm in a weird state where I am extremely displeased with how wotc is acting and their decisions about dnd and mtg, 2 of my favorite games, but I've lost no love for the games. I'm not going to boycott dnd, I actually really love 5e, it works well for the dungeon crawl-heavy style of game I like to run, and I have a good time playing it when I'm not the dm too. I certainly won't buy magic products if I don't like the individual product, but I'm not going to stop playing a card game I enjoy when I already have multiple fun decks to play, even if wotc never again made a product for magic that I like. If wotc screwed up so bad that they had to close their doors tomorrow, I'd still be playing dnd and magic with the content that we already have, but I wouldn't feel bad for the company after how badly they've been mishandling things either

My only advice would be, let your players have just as much imput into the world building as you do, whilst still having an idea of where the campaign is actually going.
