There is a rangefinder in the righthand side eyepiece. Mine are stamped Voigtländer on the lefthand side roof prism.

Interesting video CJ, thanks for posting. An Uncle of mine (Canadian), now long gone, was stationed in Belgium during WWII. Brought back a pair of these binos. They look the same as yours, same individual focusing, but a few differences:1) The RHS plate (where all the info on your binos is located) has same info yours do (i.e. "Deintsglas" and then "6X30" below it) except, my serial number is "39868" (yours is 154868). Further differences are that mine have "H/6400" stamped below the S/N instead of "ddx O" as yours do. Then, on the left-hand plate, mine are stamped "Voitlander" where yours are blank. It's interesting that my Voitlanger indicator is stamped on the LHS plate. I understand per the comments below that the "ddx" code was used to not give away the factory location to the Allies. My leather strap on the binos, which appears to be all original, has an attached Bakelite cover that oddly doesn't seem to fit snugly over the lenses. There is also range finding markings on the right reticule only (not sure if yours has one of these). There are no markings on the binos themselves I can see to indicate who the manufacturer was (i.e. Zeiss) but the leather case (mine is all leather, not Bakelite, and has what appears to be its original leather strap) is stamped "Carl Zeiss Jena" in a rounded rectangular outline on the top cover. There is also a large "I" in the centre of the top cover, and finally a serial number "168759" stamped into the back of the leather case. The following link contains some info on the dates this model of binocular was manufactured. Its a bit cryptic though and I can't speak for its accuracy.home.europa.com/~telscope/zeissbn2.txt (try pasting link into a separate browser session). All said, my binos are pretty beat-up in appearance but there is a family connection to mine. The optics are still outstanding. Terrific German technology and manufacturing in its day. JC

I came across this which may be of help identifying the maker of some of these binos .Apparently later in the war they stopped putting the makers name on so as not to help the allies identify which factories were still in production after the bombing raids instead they put codes on eg BMJ cannot believe the number of factories envolved making them .www.actionoptics.co.uk/German%20WWII%20Codes.htm

Ive got a pair of these, the outer is very heavily worn, and no manufacturers marks are visible, but the internals are superb

I have a pair of Dienstglas as described but with these differences. Under the service code number I have H/6400 .. then nothing. On the left side, stamped in the metal I have C X N and under that K.F And when you look through them they have a range finder. I have always suspected they were navel.

62011312 apparently the code cxn refers to Emil Busch A.G., Rathenow according to www.opticalrepairs.com/german_military_binoculars.htm who have a list of the three letter codes used. I have a similar pair coded eso also H/6400 and KF

Liam McLaren some do, some don't, , what you can see is a range grid, which tells the viewer how far away things are...yours was prob issued to someone in an artillery unit rather than a normal infantryman.

+C J Campbell Great video. My Grandfather was a US soldier, brought back similar binors. Thanx to ur info I verified ours are military-issue (Dienstglas stamp). *I'm interested in optical-range-finder [ **_in the right lens_** ].* Good point u make it was likely issued to artillery units. - Do u have info 4 range-finder ? - *Here is a link for 1 of few videos that shows it thru the lens* @kzread.info/dash/bejne/dmuozbCAcsrLpNI.html . NOTE- good 3-letter-code link here below by +Liam McLaren . Was great to find the story of German attempts to hide factory locations from our bomb-squadrons while still giving credit to optics manufacturers by using that stamped-3-letter-code.
