World War III - Team Yankee Tank Chat |

It's finally time to take a look at some of the new miniatures that Battlefront Miniatures are releasing for World War III: Team Yankee.
John is joined in the studio by Chris from Battlefront Miniatures to get a close look at the new kit being brought out for Team Yankee. One of the most exciting models is of course the Challenger tank for the British forces. Resplendent in a couple of versions with different armour plating, this is certainly one of the must haves from the new range.
What do you think was the best tank of the Cold War era?

We need to get the Chieftain (Major Nicholas Moran) to have a chat with John and the TT crew about the tanks and maybe have him play a couple of games.

Would be interesting to do a bit of kitbashing with these. For example, the Fox turret could be fitted to an FV432 to create the FV432/30. Those were used by the British Berlin Brigade. Could also fit the Marksman turret to a Challenger hull, rather than a Chieftain. Which was something Marconi did in the Real World. Or add the turret from the LAV-25 to the Warrior to create the Desert Warrior used by Kuwait.

the best tank really depends on the tactics and the country using it.

Funny. The Germans also had Tiger and Panther at Kursk, but they lost the Fight due to a nearly 1:5 Ratio. Challengers would have killed alot T-72 but in the End...

As for the warrior its an IFV (infantry Fighting Vehicle), not an AFV (Armoured Fighting Vehicle). well, it is an AFV as well, but they are all AFV´s. AFV is a sub-category of military vehicles, and IFV is a sub-category of AFV.

Awesome looking miniatures and it's all about the spotting the enemy first to get the first round down range that wins most engagements.

There are a lot of erroneous ideas about the matchup between Russian and western cold war tanks mostly stemming from experience with poorly used low quality export versions encountered in the middle East. I would recommend checking out on KZread a guy called Red Effect who does some pretty enlightening visa on tanks...you might be surprised. For me, the main advantage NATO tanks gained was down to their thermal sights that Russian tanks are barely catching up now

MLRS in American doctrine at the time Was exclusively counter battery. As NATO was outnumbered 10 to one in guns. its a Lockheed Martin product. So its not a joint developed product though Lots of Nato countries have bought into it. Taking out half a grid square is pretty impressive, and highly effective against massed artillery pieces. Only one country fires the SABOT round, and a fire control system to fire it. and there you have it the best tank.....M1A1

MLRS was jointly developed by the UK, USA, West Germany, France and Italy. It was very much a multi-national programme. Boeing and Vought Aerospace were involved in the development. As well as being manufactured in the US, it was also built in Europe.

My unit was VHR (very high readiness) for the first year I was there, hurry up and wait is a common thing. But we still got out in 3 days when we did deploy.

Good talk😀 😀😀At 40:34 wasn‘t it the MBT 70 which was the predecessor of Leopard 2 and Abrams?

  • @ScottKenny1978

    @ScottKenny1978

It was, but the mbt70 had a longer barreled version of the 152mm gun/missile launcher the M551 Sheridan (and m60a2) had. The Rhinemetall 120mm was basically the backup gun. Good thing, since the 152mm wasn't up to actually fighting. The Soviets had the right idea, make a missile that you can launch out of your basic gun, not build a missile launcher that can also launch shells.

Talking about what if scenarios; regardless of how excellent Leopard 2, Challenger, and M1 were compared to T-72 and T-55, soviet numbers were just too great to feasibly expect holding any line. NATO's main advantages lay in the Navy and Air Forces.

Wrong. A Challenger can take out multiple Russian tanks with ease in the real world without even being spotted.

I found this channel because, other then blitz mini's, you seem to be the only one putting out videos on team yankee so as a tabletop wargamer I am disappointed your videos never really discuss tactics or the stats of the vehicles, only the modeling aspect and history of the vehicles. Is it really that hard to put a quick spin on the abilities in game and how they can be used WHILE spending 45 minutes talking about the history.
