I painted some Team Yankee stuff but never played the game. Anyway when I build a list I look at the real organisation chart of an army. Well, being a Panzergrenadier some 30 years ago I normaly use the structure of the german "Heeresstruktur 4". I think that is always a good start. Scouts lost nearly all their power when FoW V3 switched to V4 and TY. So I understand that it may be hard to find a good task for them when the game has started. But they are versatile low cost units and being support in most lists one maybe hasn't to be afraid to risk and loose them in a game.

I know I am hella late, but its maxing arty and infantry with AT so you have heavy mortars that are 8 guns for 4 pts and then abbots use the smoke to advance the grunts who then assault.

My list that I used was as follows: Irish Guard HQ 2 x 3 FV432 mech platoon Simitar Recce 3 Chieftains with Stillbrew 8 x Abbot with a FOO (not that I used him in any of the games as I was 1 FV432 short!) Gordon highlander HQ 2 x 2 Lynx platoons 1 x 2 Lynx Milan team 4x Scorpion Recce support 2x tracked rapier I agree with everything you said in the video! Tracked rapiers are definitely worth it in comparison to blowpipes, yes they can only engage air but in a tournament scene you are always going to come up against air, 3 shots that are firepower 3+ is brilliant. I was also disappointed with my recce teams, I will probably swap them out for more milan teams or swingfires, I didnt take them but seeing how effectively you used them, I will be taking them for the next tournament. Abbots are more well rounded I find, worse FP and less power BUT they have a FP 1+ when shooting directly, definitely something to fear if they are in ambush! I hope the Battle of Bridgetown goes ahead next year!

+Ben Newbon You obviously did great things with your list, and the British infantry dug in must be just hell to try and dig out. How did your artillery go? Did they do a lot?

artillery worked well as a distraction, the infantry and its flexibility was the main strength. Milans in a church in the middle of the board was super, blitzing choppers in then blitzing them out was brilliant too. Artillery would have been good had there been another list like mine wiith infantry in it, still did okay though.

Just ordered some British today. Just started getting into the game.

Good for you. I've mostly transitioned over to Australians from Free Nations, but my Brits still work in support.

I thought about a 50pt or 75pt British list and theming it as close to (while still being somewhat competitive) the royal marines, then east Germans came out. May get to it one day since I only have a few lists for flames of war, meaning I can spend a bit more in team yankee

Harry, thanks for the tournament overview. It's really nice to be able to go through these detailed AARs to learn more about how the game is going. I think with just a few more points, you'll have the points to do more. You should give the scorpion another chance. Having cheap FP 2+ that can also take out BMPs seems like a good deal for me. I'd look at cutting the HELARMs first. Milan's are great, but can be a bit passive if you don't utilize them properly. Though the Brits bring enough that you can establish a pretty tough defensive network with overlapping zones of fire.

Yep. Certainly HELARM out before Scorpions. I'm pretty defensive (I'm still a beginner, really...) so Milan suits me at the moment. But I will cut the Scorpions some slack.

Are you on the Flames of War and Team Yankee - Western Australia Facebook page? It is a great group. Do you have other players in Albany? I'm the only player in my town. That's one reason for the channel - to share my hobby.

Very nice list and very representative of BAOR in the mid 1980's. I can remember having a lot of fun shooting Soviet tanks from behind hills in 1/285th games back then. Of the vehicles in your list I got to drive an FV-432 and an Abbot in 1999 and both were very cool. The group I visited in the UK had a Chieftain however while I got into the drivers compartment there was no way I was going to work the controls at 6' height.

The list worked OK for me. A few tweaks in the future. I drove an FV432 at Bovington 2 years ago - sweet! I also played 1/285th scale stuff, but I like 15mm tanks to build.

I played with Russians against a British list and I found the British incredibly resilient. They had challengers though. For artillery, definitely use more guns in your battery.

Yes. Challengers are great. They didn't exist when I was designing this list, unfortunately. More guns in my battery might be good.

from my limited experience with the chieftain i would second the notion of going for stillbrew on all tanks.

We were a bit short of Soviets, so I faced two US armies before I got a T-72 list. The Russian player pushed up hard and nearly got me. But no BMP horde.

i kinda want to go for a t55 horde, but the gun isnt really good enough to do anything to anyone, and the Armour is paper. it's not even a chance, every shot will pen, and every one of mine will bounce. they are just so delightfully cheap

Hey there, really really late here, and I must say I’m not British, nor have I ever served, but for a late Cold War setting, could you use the Challenger 1 instead of the chieftain?

Challenger I was in service from 1983 until 2001 with the British army. So plenty of scope for using them in the late Cold War. If you are asking why my force didn’t use them, they hadn’t been released for Team Yankee back then.

Medium Recce Squadron is the best. 2 Spartans, 8 Scorpions and 4 Striker for 17 Pts. Can do a lot of dmg to enemies support and light armored vehicles. You can also easily destroy T55 with Scorpions.

Great minds think alike. Can't wait to try them out. I bought the miniatures to build the Recce Squadron. They are just stuck in the paint queue...

As the FV432 capacity is 3 passengers why does the book (page 36) require that you add an FV432 when you take the option to add two milan teams to a platoon? 4 x FV432 have a capacity of 12 passengers, so 4 x GPMG + 3 x Carl Gustav + 1 x 2" mortar + 2 x milan = 10 passengers. I am a bit confused.

No idea! But I’m guessing a good amount of Milan ammo might take up some space. Possibly that is being accounted for.

What's the most common list size for events? 75 points?

Have played 100 points, but our last tournament was 32 points for quick games. 64 is the tournament suggested size for this year.

Thanks. I'm just getting into TY and I'm figuring what size of forces to get. I used to play FoW but I was turned off by too large forces with bumper-to-bumper deployment and no room to maneuver...

The m109 was a risk I think not something I run
