World War 2 Explained | Best WW2 Documentary | Part 2

Japan's attack had backfired and far from wiping out American influence in the Pacific, they had just awoken a sleeping giant, with the subsequent Battles of the Corral sea and Midway shifting the balance of the war. The Allies would also see success in North Africa, with Erwin Rommel 'The Desert Fox' being forced off the continent, securing Egypt and in particular the Suez Canal for the British. From Africa, the Allies would be able to disrupt Axis operations in the Medditarain with the Invasions of Sicily and Italy all on the horizon. The War was finally turning in the Allies favour and it would not be long until the Axis were retreating, being pushed all the way back to their homelands.

12:24 In about 5 and a half hours, 81 years ago, the Italian ambassador delivers the ultimatum to the Greek PM, demanding that the Italians troops should pass into Greek territories freely. The Greek PM, Ioannis Metaxas, with tearful eyes, says the famous "Alors, c’est la guerre!", which means "then, it is war!" The Greco-Italian War is a small chapter in the WWII history no doubt, but it is an important one for my country, as it was a solid punch to the Axis power. Fellow Greek readers and rest of the world, happy "Ochi's Day"!

I also saw the programs on the Korean War and Vietnam. United States was tough back in the forties and if for not the United States things would be different on this planet also there are some graphic scenes scenes of dead Japanese soldiers you will not see anything like that in any War before or after. This was hard to watch. A relative of mine died at the first Battle of El Alamein..on the 19th of July and this is the first time I've seen what was happening then and what he died for. It's had to wrap your head around. He was 25 years old. Never married. From Wales.. had graduated university before he went to war. And his life was cut so short fighting the Germans. I know so many were. It's just mind blowing to think of your family member there doing that. What hell it must have been. I so wish he had made it through to see the victories to come.

Well I believe that it’s not just ww2, the story being told is the end of empires, an age that had lasted for thousands of years. World war 2 finished what world war 1 started. World war 1 saw the fall of the German, Turkish, Russian, Chinese, Bulgarian, and Austria-Hungarian empires. Ww2 finished this, and although they won the war, all European powers were soon forced to give up their colonies a few years later. It is the best story ever told, but the story goes from 1900 and the boxer rebellion, to around 1960, when everything was decolonized.

@@asherhayes2429 but seriously, the stuff that happened in this war could not have been created in Hollywood. From the horrors, to the heroism of so many, the technology, the politics. There’s so much that happened in this war, you really have to think, this actually happened.

@@alanbo32 yeah, and it was everywhere to. That’s the most incredible thing about it. The story that is usually told is the American GI in France or Okinawa, but people often forget that American deaths were literally .5 percent of all ww2 deaths. One in twi hundred ww2 deaths were Americans. Death was everywhere. Every front was so large it is unfathomable.

I'm 80 having been born as WWII started and I, along with many of us from that time before the Baby Boomers, am somehow powerfully drawn to learn as much as possible of the world of our earliest days. I've read many books and seen many movies and videos on the era. Virtually all focus on essentially the same collection of very important events, but much of this presentation lays out details often overlooked. Now I'm looking for Part 3. I hope it's available now. If not, I hope it will be very soon.

I think that could be a part III, the documentary talking about British and American territories like it’s theirs LOL They colonized foreign land for the same purpose, influence, cheap labour and resources. So Japan taking it under its own control is not worse than what Europeans did to those countries. Killings and murder was done by British and Americans as well, the thing is that the history is told by the victors and they always justify their own atrocities.

How things spiral. Millions of individual lives lost reduced to numbers. Just like the First World War, the germans fought like vicious and efficient wasps and only their over ambition lead to them compromising and bailing out their allies. Proxy wars across unconnected lands (imagine that in your country). Minor mistakes and judgements from those in charge leading to the loss of thousands. And to think ultimately everyone is human… Thanks for the amazing videos. Picking out the key points, so nicely presented and edited.
