World's Worst Deer Hunting Neighbor

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Having a bad deer hunting neighbor is no joke! Bad neighbors come in all shapes and sizes and on the surface can appear to ruin all of your deer hunting efforts. However, most neighbors can be an asset for you in one way, or another. Here are several potential deer neighbors - good and bad - and how each one can eventually turn into an asset for the entire deer hunting neighborhood.

You have to remember there is a lot of guys out there that deer hunting isn’t that big of deal. As a land owner my biggest pet peeve is a deer hunting neighbor that gripes about my livestock or my dogs barking or my making noise while they are hunting. Remember you own your property not your neighbors and some of us are trying to make a living.

True, very true. But barking dogs is a pet peeve. In my area they bark for hours nonstop and owner does nothing. It may be your land but there's still such a thing as disturbing the peace and being a decent person/responsible pet owner.

Today there was a guy about 5 feet from our property line in a tree stand facing our property, I walked up to him and put a no trespassing sign on the tree in front of him. Then I ate my lunch in front of him, with music blasting, I pissed him off and are going to do it again tomorrow

It gets harder and harder to figure out which of your videos is the best. This one ranks right up there at the top. I help my two neighbors with planting on my nickel for the exact reasons you describe. Some think I’m nuts for doing so. But the day I helped my 79 year old neighbor track and find the biggest buck of his life was way worth. And that happened because I shared my trail can pics with him. Great video Jeff

Great video Jeff. Remember if you have a negative encounter with a neighbor it will only get Worse over time and never improve. As difficult as it may be,....try to keep treat them with the Golden Rule in mind during your discussion. You may be able to work towards a positive relationship over time. Also if they are local and you are not, remember being right doesn't necessarily mean you will get your desired outcome.

Best one about bad neighbors, I have a friend who belongs to a club that leased ground. Until recently in PA only police could arrest someone for trespassing not the game warden. Most people would just run someone off their land because to have them arrested meant you had to quit hunting, maybe after driving for hours to get to where you hunted. On this club they came across someone who gave them lip and made threats. When they told him leave, or be arrested for trespassing he said only State police could arrest him there. My friend said your right , Pulled out his badge and said your under arrest. He said you should have seen his face.

I have land in NY, with neighbors who are great guys, retired firemen in their late 60's & early 70's however, they will ride ATV's & trespass, hunt your ladder stand if I'm not there, that's why I only use climbers and hunt when they are not there (which isn't often!). I'm 55 & they know me from when I was a kid, so they still see me that way. There's no talking to them, won't listen. Funny how you pointed out that we ourselves sometimes are the bad neighbor. I grew up with my dad saying you can't eat horns, if you get a buck you get a buck as long as there is meat in the freezer it doesn't matter. If I know a big buck is in the area I won't specifically target him till I already filled a tag. This past year for example I had already gotten 3 tags filled and was on my last day before I was able to get a nice 8 pointer. Then when someone who gets something like this is excited for even getting a nice deer or even a deer at all shows it off only for another trophy hunter to piss on his day can be disheartening. And that may be one reason why hunting is going do

  • @whitetailhabitatsolutions9751

    @whitetailhabitatsolutions9751

    4 жыл бұрын

The cool thing is that that trend is turning. Antler shaming was really prevalent back in the 2000s...the tide has turned tho. It goes the other way too! For example if I just wanted meat my hunt would be over the first sit on public or private land in any state I hunt...within a few hours. Instead, I like to actually "hunt". Does are easy to kill...young bucks, so if I actually want to hunt I like working all year towards the challenge of an older buck. I shoot does...I hunt mature bucks. Someone who meat hunts has to respect someone that wants to hunt hard for an elusive older buck with actually more meat. And visa versa.

@@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 it does go both ways and if a person only wants that big buck good on them every one does. But also alot of people don't have the time or money to drop thousands of dollars a season for the latest equipment or cams and may only be able to get out a couple of days a season, so if it's brown it's down is their way. Alot of being a good hunter is sportsmanship and respect, and that is one thing that faded out but is making a bigger come back at least

  • @hallhouse5098

Thanks for posting this. I’m having big problems with very bad neighbors. My sister has 30 acres that she and her Husband have a small cabin, an outdoor shooting range and a shed for their atv’s on. It’s solely a fun property for the family. I take great care of the property and built all the structures. It’s not an incredible deer hunting property but through my efforts it’s been getting better every season. We now have more deer than ever and even some fairly impressive bucks but not many. It’s definitely if it’s brown is it big enough property. So our a hole neighbor has been trespassing and walking up to family members while they’re shooting or talking at the cabin. He’s asked numerous times to hunt our property with firearms and then proceeds to say he’s a convicted felon and if we let him hunt he will keep an eye on our place when we’re not there. Finally he walked up on me one day and asked again. I was nice but told him it’s private family property. The deer are limited and we don’t ride the trails for fun only to drag a deer if we have to. The trails are for stalking and exercising and it’s not cool to brag that you’re a convicted felon while asking to hunt firearms. I told him under no circumstances is he to hunt here and anyone caught here will be prosecuted. So recently i’ve been finding our trails tore the hell up and I mean badly with ruts like people have been riding all day every day. I never was able to catch them because my brother in law wouldn’t buy cameras. Finally I caught the trespasser neighbor who invited two other atv’rs to our property to ride while I came to do some scouting. I tore them a new asshole and informed them the sheriff would be serving them if I caught them again. A month later they were back and I got them on cell camera on atv’s. I talked to the sheriff and he’s in the process of serving them....he said he would inform me if/when they serve them. I spent the morning today dropping large trees to block any and all entrances to our property including a obvious trail leading from our property straight to the neighbors house. Wonder how he would feel if I turfed his yard with my atv while he was away. I’m so disgusted with scum bag thieving trespassers. I’d love to set traps with fishhooks, pitfalls and nail boards but I don’t want to injure deer and I know it’s illegal to do those things although would love to see them go running home with a treble hook stuck in their eyelid. I have heard this guy on our property in the past shooting deer with a shotgun while I was at the other side of the property. I caught him running from me one evening and he had left a pile of beer cans where he was hunting from one of my ladders. In a perfect world Id love to get righteous revenge. If I see any of these bastards poaching this season it’s gonna get ugly but legally unfortunately. We also had two very nice dirt bikes stolen from the shed a year prior. Gotta say I’m loving the moultree cellular cameras but I really hate the stress that trespassers cause by making you feel like you gotta constantly watch your back on your own property. Good thing is the sheriff know him well and seems eager to take him down when the time comes.

I have used brown it’s down guys to my advantage. They will usually be the only people who will give you a hand to drag out a big deer. They usually love hunting but are content shooting the first available animal. You let them participate in even dragging a big buck and they go nuts. I’ve had them tell me to stand back and enjoy the moment while they field dressed one of my booner bears. Here in Maine you aren’t moving a big buck a bear or a moose without help. They trophy hunters are always hunting or too jealous to help. I’ve had brown is down guys stop hunting and help me drag for half a day, take pictures and even follow me to the tagging station. They want to be part of something cool. Just something to think about. Trophy guy doesn’t want his clothes getting sweaty or bloody, doesn’t want to spook deer, needs to rest so they can hunt. Also like you said, they shoot does and little bucks. Who cares. The guy who passes on 150” bucks isn’t helping you do squat usually.

Sometimes that turns into the best Day out hunting for me.

Some people don't have time, energy, or money to build a habitat. Some folks go out into their back acres a couple times a year and take enough meat just to fill the freezer. Where that deer came from, or why it's so healthy is not as important to them as feeding the family. So while it may be frustrating for a neighbor who is actually helping build that herd, it is what it is. If you throw a $100 bill on a public road, don't be surprised that it's gone after a few hours. Thank you for saying that these guys aren't necessarily bad or doing something wrong....just frustrating... Good call on "working WITH your neighbors ". Unless someone is trespassing and snooping around, they probably have no idea how hard you're working on helping the herd, all they see is a legal kill. Your views seem very balanced and carefully worded. Good job. I just found your site, instantly subscribed.

My state finally made it legal to supplement feed all year. And no feed within 100 yards of a property boundary. The state also added a provision that all landowners are responsible for the actions of others using or leasing their property. Any issues with neighbors must be settled by the two owners, not users or lease holders. This is for residential and agricultural zones.

Our neighbors trailer is 150 yards from our cabin up in the saddle between two hills. The night before is just pulling out the lab tops, showing trail cam pictures, comparing what we have seen and sometimes, figuring out, well if you go in there, they may be laying around your stand. Then they want us to look over their property for the ATVs that try to get up on the hill from the rails to trails right of way, since they live 3 hours away. The number of big bucks each of us has got is funny for a mostly wooded area. The last few years we had deer, but the week before the season they disappear from the combined 850 acres. We have not located who is corning the deer, but we have checked enough deer shot the second week of the PA season to know, they have corn in their bellies and a lot of it. So maybe a 5th type of near neighbor, the baiter.

This guy has also managed to damage the creek crossing in the middle of me property by trying to put in a huge culvert with a bunch of heavy rocks and cement thinking it wouldn't wash out and of course it did and is has been replaced with an 8ft wide piece of steel that is flimsy and very shaky. People like him are why city people need to quit moving out to the country, those of us that have always lived out here just think they are all idiots anyway and they ruin our way of life by coming out here. My creek crossing was the way it was for 150 years for a reason because no one has been able to tame that creek and it proved him wrong just like every other idiot who has tried and next time it floods it will be even worse.

We have collaborated on deer stand locations, wind patterns, movement patterns, etc. It has been a great experience so far. He has the bedding and cover and I have been focusing on food plots and green for fall and winter. I choose to not focus on to much bedding improvements since the neighbors and I have a tripled our resources, acreage, and we don't even hunt on each others property.

We have some neighbors who are on the same page for the most part, but in between we have lessees who feel the best places to hunt are the property lines of the people who do the heavy lifting. If you look at their stands they are almost exclusively on the line, or better yet on the intersection of two nice properties (whose owners pretty much follow sensible management guidelines) and their lease, which resembles a pool table most of the fall. To me this is more annoying than outright trespassing because there's not much you can do... it's like a kid thumbing his nose and going "nah nah nah nah nah"...just lazy and juvenile. My neighbor calls it "casual trespass".

Honestly the best thing you can do is be neighborly. Make sure access to hunt right on your property line, and bring him coffee and donuts when you do. Stop and chat. Builds the relationship and you keep from messing up your own land by just duplicating hunting access pressure...not adding more in another location. 😁 Seriously...access right next to him. Adding a fake stand or blind right in the same spot helps too.

I think you could probably add more types. I've got 40 acres in NW Illinois. My neighbor is a good guy and he doesn't hunt himself, BUT he lets FIVE other guys hunt his 11 acres that join my creek bottom! Another 17 acres across the same fence is hunted by atleast 3 guys. That's atleast 8 people hunting the 28 acres over my west fence. There is so much pressure on the land around me that we almost never see a deer after October 1st. I'm 1/2 mile from some state land and I can drive around it in the winter and see 40 or more deer in an evening when I've seen 2 or 3 sets of tracks on my week old snow.

We have multiple 4’s around us. We own just shy of 75 acres in Central Texas and the surrounding neighbors are all 150 plus acre properties, the biggest being 600 acres on our road. All of these families have been out here since the mid 1800’s and act like they own the place. Back then in our area deer were almost nonexistent because of over hunting until antler restrictions were finally put into action. But that doesn’t matter to this one family that is our direct neighbor that had about 15-25 hunters on 250 acres and will shoot anything they see. They even have admitted to shooting a bobcat off our property and to make us feel better say it was shot in our other neighbors property. Our other immediate neighbor has purposely mowed the fence line in the evening and morning, drove it on his utv, and even spread laundry detergent to get rid of deer. We’ve been out here for 15 plus years and I’ve grown up here and it never fails. Almost ruins living out here. We’ve planted food plots each year, fed protein, improved not only our land but others around us, spared young deer to let mature. Habitat loss has been a large issue, around us we probably had 1,500 acres of solid mesquite and it went to open pastures in a short time of around 4 years.

I hunt in woods behind my house. The neighbor is anti hunting. One opening day there was a Lions football game on and that afternoon he had the volume up so loud I could distinctly hear the play by play all the way from his house to my blind. They always walk their dog out to do his business in their own yard until deer season... then they take him out to the woods along the fence line as close as they can get to my blind. Two weeks ago I went to check on a trail cam and found multiple droppings of dog poop near my camera. They are smart enough (or lucky enough) that they don't step in front of the camera and all the droppings are right at the base of the tree where my camera is located so not even the dog is in the pictures.

Worked my entire life to afford my own land, tractor, drill, corn planter, lime spreader, fert spreader, cultipacker, sprayer etc. And spend my entire year improving the habitat that i can to help the herd. I'm the only one that leaves acres of standing corn so that the neighbors deer for miles have food for the winter. Constantly get deer pics in Jan/Feb and find sheds of deer that i never see during season that live miles away that others shoot. Have some brown it's down, semi QDM and some real QDM neighbors. As long as they hunt legally i respect them all. I even plant some neighbors plots for free if they buy the seed and fert. Just can't understand why i'm a "bad" neighbor? Just started watching your videos recently and did subscribe as i do enjoy them.

Not sure the misunderstanding...you sound like a great neighbor 👍 What I am referring to are the folks who own land, build a great doe herd...increase the population too much and actually build a poorly balanced and low quality deer herd. They then feel they have to shoot an above average number if does due to the poor herd they built, actually lowering the numbers in surrounding parcel and creating a poor neighborhood. Common problem with large, scientifically managed- but poorly managed whitetail parcels that can't fix the problem by spending more money. In fact it magnifies the problem. Hope that makes sense! Nothing to due with being neighborly or being a nice person...they just hinder the neighborhood's whitetail potential.

Saving up for a survey to be done, already took one of their stands down that was without a doubt on my side and they threw a fit. Not worth cutting the tree down but sure has been considered.

Id cut the tree down. Or if the devious side of me won, I’d be tempted to cut a notch in the tree so them hanging on the other side could bring it down. Might just make them stop hunting it. But in all seriousness, it sounds like talking to them doesn’t help, makes you wonder if a survey will do any good assuming you don’t move the fence to the survey line. Make sure to steer your deer lines of movement away from that border.

No-one has the right to trespass or tell others what to do. If someone buys land they can manage it for deer or use it as a family hunting spot and shoot does or spend the weekend riding atv’s. As long as it’s legal they can do what they want.

Unfortunately I have trespassing scum neighbors. Multiple. They hunt, they ride atv, ect ect. I actually dropped trees across atv trails and they cut and moved them. Huge task considering they were large trees. Property is clearly posted and they have been warned. They simply run off when you see them. Unfortunately local magistrates rarely do anything but warn them to stay out.

Whitetail Habitat Solutions it is more than frustrating Jeff. I have really improved the habitat and hunting using your advice and tactics. I do wonder how good it could be without the trespassing. There is so much atv activity in the area the deer are conditioned to it a bit. I Try not to let it bother me too much. Keep churning out the great content!

Would be worth contacting a lawyer. Perhaps could be a lawsuit for impinging on your enjoyment of private property?

Might I suggest a box of 1-1/4" roofing tacks spread evenly over each of their illegal entry points. Soak them in white vinegar overnight to turn them a dark color. Just remember not to drive there yourself.

I know in my state it is easier for antihunter hippie types to deliberately make noise and scare animals away if they stay on their own land. A judge within the last couple years through out a case for that reason and I think prosecutors are less likely to go after them.

Some hunters don’t believe in the QDM management style. Personally, I don’t have a high amount of confidence in the QDM system for small properties. There are people who have their own opinions regarding management. There’s also hunters who aren’t primarily concerned with antler size. I’d rather see people enjoy their property on their own terms. Big bucks are not the only objective. Sharing time with good people is the best reward in deer hunting. Too many people seem to think they have some right to judge their neighbors based on their own opinions

I had it great for years. My neighboor had 100 acres. He was old never hunted and only allowed me and my son to hunt his land which we never did as i own 70 acres. He has now passed on and his kids sold his land and now the new owner parties all fall driving jeeps , Atv's all over. Leaving beer cans and garbage everywhere. They have crossed my land as well and it has pushed all the deer out. It was great but now its over.

@@toddreynolds8875 Well first off im not rich. I own 60 acres next to it. I have mortgage on my house and 40 acres attached to my house. I pay enough in taxes in the communist state of Ny. I tried buying the land from the owners greedy kids. I offered them a fair price. Tgey said no. It sat on the market for almost 2 years before it sold lower than what i offered them originally. So im guessing you own hundreds of acres and you are independently wealthy.. The new owners are drunks and liberal snowflakes who do drugs. They dont carw about hunting or destroying everything and ruining others hunting. Thanks for your wise and well thought out input.
