    From what I've seen with the Thor one, the weight reading is shown on camera but there's no way to know if it's truly accurate, it wouldn't be hard to program a display to show a lighter weight, or do some camera trickery. The ease with which he lifts it (as a very tall person) makes me think it was less weight, still very heavy but not quite the 501kg claimed.

    Hafthor looked like he had more in the tank aswell, kinda looked like he had 510/520 kg in him at the time. Eddie said his only regret was not loading the bar even more once he felt the power he had, said he felt like he could lift more. I think Hafthor just got what he needed to and then didn't want to risk anything more. He was already a living legend, essentially no point in doing more than he did. I do wish Eddie and Hafthor continued their fued in strongman. They retired too early from the sport imo. If you gave both of those guys 3-5 more years, oh boy.

    @@vebjsand Something makes me feel that Hafthor didn't have to take nearly as much prep work as Eddie did, other than good ol' fashion conditioning, eating large amounts, and substance abuse, but hey that's the industry standard. And yes, I believe Hafthor could have pushed past 501kg, but I also think it's because he knows Eddie would never go through, what he had to go through to prepare, again. Also, we know how much they love to annoy each other, so why not take to opportunity to beat Eddie's record by only 1kg lol. Eddie did perform his feat in a professional setting though, where Hafthor did his in his home gym. So, I feel that can play a small role as well, even if it's the tiniest bit.

    @@jar768jake And Eddie did it when the previous WR was aroudn 465 if i remember correctly, so it's already a huge jump and at that time, saying he'll pull 500 was a ridiculous statement. So he also had to prep and do it while basically everyone thought he'd fail. Although that may have fueled him more. Hafthor at least didn't have to go to "uncharted" territory. I think it's a shame it was only 1kg, plus definitely a pity it was not a comp lift. But it's not any less impressive for sure. And now, these competitors were almost sure they could pull it... crazy. Although they didn't. ;)

  • @vebjsand

    @vebjsand

    8 ай бұрын

    @@jar768jake I think Eddie would've respected or atleast settled with a 505 or 510 kg pull. But 501 must make him fume. Eddie has talked a bit about his prep back then, and knowing what he knows now, if he knew it back then, he could've kept going with risking heart injury and such. Back then he was going at it with very little guidance, limited knowledge about substance abuse (these days athletes get the same results which way smaller dosages and less side effects). As you mention I think perhaps it played a role that he was forced to do it in a "home gym". I do trust the judges and such, weights were weighed on livestream and all that. But it's still not the same as being at the Arnolds or Giant's live. So maybe he had a tiny bit of doubt about the lift being valid, so why risk life threatening injury by pulling 510 or 520 when he has already beaten the record. We saw what happened with Eddie, he had severe injuries from the lift. I think that scared Hafthor a bit, but clearly his larger frame handled it well, he was a bit sore for 1 day then didn't notice anything (or atleast so he says). In my head there's no question he could've done more. A few days before the lift he did 470 kg for reps, and perhaps for the first time in his life looked aggressive and angry at the weight. I've never seen 470 kg look so easy, ever. With that said, I also think Eddie could've done more than 500 kg. It's a shame we never really got to see a head-to-head battle with them play out properly. The few fueds they had they both still had more potential. Even bloatlord Eddie looking like a beast at his peak, with different substance and nutrition regiment, had more potential, especially in over-head stuff. Ifs and buts. There's nobody like them in the strongman scene these days. Tom could maybe have the potential to hang with those guys, but he'd need a rival to push him over a couple of years to reach final form. Right now his strength varies way too much throughout the year, and his focus is only on WSM. I think he has a long term goal of breaking the deadlift WR, and with proper focus I think he can do it. Would love to see it.

    Eddie and Thor had true reasons to pull over 500kg which made them successful. Eddie wanted to prove to all the haters that pulling 500kg is possible and Thor had beef with Eddie, so he wanted to best him at all cost. Both pulled fairly fast off the ground which makes you think they could've done 505kg easy. At this point it's just to break a record.

    There is a place on Earth, called the Indian Ocean geoid low, near the southern tip of India, where gravity is less than anywhere else. That is where a deadlift attempt would have the greatest chance of success. The kilogram is a standard unit of mass, not weight, so the weight of a kilogram can vary, depending on local gravity.

    Being brutally honest non of these guys were anywhere near. On a conventional pull, the first pull is the easiest part, especially getting it to just below the knees. The hard part is that second pull. With makarov it will be a case of if his health gives out before he can get the lift, man is so strong but never seems to be quite there. Grahams 470 wasn’t as good as people seem to think it was, it slowed, he hitched it several times and struggled on the lockout. Would have been interesting to see pavlo make an attempt, man is a beast and he is still young as well. When we saw Eddie and Thor pull 470 it was smooth, no slow down and no hitching and non of these guys are at that level quite yet. Wasn’t to be this year, there is always next year
