I just got the Des Moines, and love it. Unfortunately I hate the repair cost of this and other tier 8-10 ships. I'm not saying repairs for high tier should be free or cheep, but it sucks when you don't have the money for a premium account, and you have to be so careful about taking even a little damage. I like to play aggressive, but I don't like feeling as though I'm entering a brand new BMW in a demolition derby.

Thanks to the high tier economy changes last patch, my Des Moines comments from six months ago, which you're responding to, are ancient history and irrelevant now. While not a perfect fix, My Des Moines joined by my Yamato, which I unlocked a month ago, aren't nearly as credit hungry after a match as they used to be. I'm pleased with the change, and play my tier tens much more than I used to. I can now play more aggressive in tier ten games, without the financial pain, and am enjoying it.

Jared Shope I don't know off the top of my head, but they are much less, especially if you get the premium camo. Thanks to the economy changes, my original comment is no longer valid, which is a good thing for me. Since then I also unlocked the Yamato, and am one ship closer to unlocking the Zao. I noticed the que time for getting into tier 9 and ten battles is much less than it used to be, and you actually make a profit playing tier 8, where in the bast you just broke even in that tier. The grind from tier 8-10 to get the Des Moines seemed to take forever, and cost a shipload of credits, Once I got the Des Moines and the Yamato, I hardly played them, because of insane amount of credits I lost just taking a little damage. Now I mostly break even or just a little less even with the Tier tens, make a little profit with my tier nines, and as I said above, make a pretty decent profit with my tier eights. The grind going from the Mogami to the Zao is taking me much less time, and is much less painful credit wise, than the other tier 8-10 grinds, making it much more enjoyable. Plus with the Yamato being much less expensive to operate, I can actually brawl with it, and push the line, like a real battleship player should, instead of sitting in the back and sniping, fearing the large painful credit bite if I got sunk. Now if I get sunk in it, I might feel a tiny credit pinch at the most instead. Now the only issue with high tier games is to get high tier players to break their passive playing habits, and play more aggressive, like they do in low to mid tier games.

I don't like to watch war of warships. So I come and like the video just for THAT EPIC INTRO!

I worked on the U.S.S. Des Moines while she was in sitting in reserve in the Philadelphia Naval Ship Yard. She sat there for more than 40 years before they finally scrapped her!

I guess 2 seconds faster RPM totally make is right right? They also reduced the chance of fire per shell of the IJN with the exception of the 203mm....

Des Moine, a ship I'm able to gain intimate knowledge of should I wish it. My girlfriend's father either served on the Des Moine late in its career, or was stationed near it. To be honest, I've never had the chance to visit a cruiser. I've been on every other type of ship.

+Hoshimaru57 Sadly she was scrapped in 2007 (surprisingly to me that she made it that long!), however her sister, the Salem, lives on today in Quincy MA at the former Fore River Shipyard. However do to ownership and zoning issues she is closed to the public until approximately April of this year.

+K1rkles It's not about watching the firing...you're obviously a FPS addict. Probably play an assload of CoD. It's more about the strategy of placing yourself in good firing positions to attack/defend objectives. It's not a team deathmatch, it's a capture and defend objective based game. I know that call of duty has ruined your strategical mind and all you know how to do is shoot someone 30 times before they die, so I, like everybody else who enjoys this game, would love to see people like you in the game more often. You would get destroyed.

Battleship play is all about keeping your distance and praying to RNGesus. It doesn't matter if you're good or "strategic," it all boils down to luck. I'd much rather watch cruiser or destroyer game play that rewards skill and good tactics.

There is luck involved, but it's not going to define the outcome of your game as much as a really tight strategy will. I don't even know why I'm explaining this to you. Phly, it amazes the hell out of me that you have 8" guns and are shooting HE at cruisers. AP man, AP....

General question - does ship accuracy generally increase with tier? I mean, currently I play mostly Wyoming and that thing is woefully inaccurate. Or to be more precise her shot groupings are terrible. Very often one shell from the turret goes in front of intended target while the other goes past his stern. Or aimed at enemy waterline, they fall visibly short. Adjust the aim a bit higher, they go way past him. I don't think I'm that terrible shot, because using the same technique I got 6 citadels one battle. But, generally, not counting that one lucky battle, I feel like the RNG is working against me. So, will this get better, or is it just something I have to come to terms with when playing BBs? I don't want lazorlike pinpoint accuracy, I just hope for more predictable groupings.

+CrazyChemistPL All BB's generally have the same crappy accuracy, calibers and amounts of guns increase, that kind of effects accuracy, and yeah, it gets better and Wyoming is awesome imo. Especially after That thing name South Carolina which they call a warship.

I'm really excited for the Somalian pirates to be added, cant wait for my tier 10 tugboat armed with 1x4 ak47s

Before you make your choice, look at the Tier X end result rather than the journey. USN - Better escort ships for BBs due to AA and spammy rate of fire. Good for bigger battlegroups but it can't be a brawler. IJN - Better brawler; stronger guns. Higher fire %age. It's AA is nowhere near as good as the Des Moines, where the Des Moines drops them the IJN makes them panic. tbh, if you want faster paced gameplay go for the Des Moines but keep in mind Des Moines has a larger citadel and is more susceptible to citadels and taking larger hits. Due to IJN's slower reload/short torpedo range the gameplay; while more versatile will force you to think slower and focus more on accuracy compared to the Des Moines spray and pray a lot of the time. Zao's citadel is near the rear and is tiny; so whenever you're trying to avoid battleship/cruiser AP rounds it's best to turn into them a lot of the time rather than away as most ships do. Of course, it's your choice in the end but keep in mind grinding through the Zao is seen easier because from Tiers V-X are essentially the same; good guns but long reload time. Whereas for the Americans, you'll get a lot of different playstyles. Tier VI Cleveland is smaller version of the Des Moines, but Tier VII everyone hates due to it being a glass cannon and Tier VIII and IX are more similar to the IJN than the USN Cruisers.

That Des Moines is a BEAST!!!! Machine gun 8 inchers.

+PhlyDaily i would recommend you try out Project Reality, i think you would like it... its like Arma 2, but a standalone mod for Bf2
