    I am going to stick with version one ... ITS not few extra 100 bucks its exactly more than a 1000 bucks to get your hands on a version II lens....... no point selling a kidney for 10% improvement....... A brilliant review indeed and it has helped me to stay with version 1

    for CPL or any screw ins, yes the most economical option is to get one great one at the size of the biggest lens, then step up adapters. The absolute best image quality will be to get a correctly fitting one each. Square filters come in series, and you can get different rings to allow fitting to more than one size. I think the Cokin ones I use go up to 82mm

    I have the original 24-70 and i love it. I was considering upgrading to the mk ii but i really cant justify the price difference to upgrade from something which is already fantastic. The original seems to have a little bit better build, maybe i just like the weight and size...

    Fantastic stuff. I love your reviews and your coverage of both canon and Nikon. I would love to see the mark 2 vs the tamron with vc. I'm assuming you will give the nod to the mark 2, since you have the mark 1 the nod over the tamron. But I woul still love to see your analysis, especially whether you think it's worth the extra bucks. Thanks and keep up the great work! Subscribed!

    I subscribed because this channel gives me all sorts of hints and tips on how to do different things and I am a Canon owner/user. The general reviews of items such as ND filters, straps, etc, transposes to ALL brands of camera. The tech tips are also totally transposable to ALL camera brands. I am looking for instrution and I get it here in simple, easy to understand terms that I can use on my camera, and like I said, shock horror mine's a Canon! Its not the "thatONLYnikonguy" channel!

    In the shots of across the water to the buildings with the mangroves on the right, it looks like the Mk I lens has a flare that is spread so far out it just discolors the plants to an orange-y overtone. Take a look at the two shots - the plants in the Mk I shot is all orange-y. The Mk II seems to condense the flair into something with more defined edges. So, I think that is a major improvement.

    Matt, you said something about the changing of the frame when you changed from the new to the old version (around 5:14). Maybe the difference in the frames can be found in the different length of the two lenses and the different diameters? Just a thought because you said that you didn't touch the tripod. Beside that I think another nice and interessting video. Cheers!

    Great review! i have a quick question thatnikonguy for you to answer if you don't mind. What's your take on buying used lenses? Of course, i should make sure physically (zoom ring, focus ring, front and rear glass, switches) the lens is in good condition ,but I've also heard about calibrating lenses? Do lenses over time lose their sharpness and have to be re calibrated? Thanks

  • @Jontiac
    @Jontiac12 жыл бұрын

    I used to shoot with the 24-70v1 but replaced it with the 24,1.4 - 50,1.2 and 85 1.2. I grasp that it can get hectic but with the lack of control of lighting situations you really need fast apertures for weddings (which I too shoot). The versatility of a zoom is wonderful outdoors, however. As you build up your equipment arsenal, I would recommend having all of the lenses for different situations. Versatility is key to doing well in this biz.

  • @Jontiac
    @Jontiac12 жыл бұрын

    niiiice. Good price too! I use it exceedingly more than the 85 or the 24. Those come in handy more for the reception (i.e. the "first dance") or ceremony (i.e. wide angle interior church) which are of course are not the bread and butter of your business. I heard of a guy that did wedding photography his whole life with just one camera and a 50 mil'. I couldn't dream of doing that, but it goes to show. I recommend that 70-200 next on your list if you don't already have it. But for now, have fun!!

  • @wouternrs

    Great review! I still think the one point where the VI beats the VII hands down is the lens hood and how it works. First off, the lens hood on the VII is more like a lens hood designed for the 24mm section of the lens whereas the VI lenshood provides better protection against flaring throughout the whole zoomrange. Secondly i love the way the lenshood on the VI protects the lens because it is attached to the lens body. Since i mainly shoot events and bump it alot i think this is very important!

    Nice scoop. A suggestion for your future reviews. When doing your A-B comparisons, put the 100% crops side by side. To me the difference between the two doesn't justify the price increase (factoring in a thread adapter as well).

  • @dave80com

    Hi Matt, I think the reason for the perspective difference between the two lenses that you noted may come from the fact that the front element of the Mk1 moves outwards at 24mm and inwards at 70mm. However the Mk2 is the opposite. At 24mm the front element of the Mk2 moves back and at 70mm its outward.

Yeah, I think I am sticking with primes...not as nice as yours, but I am happy with the EF 28 1.8 and the EF 85 1.8 lenses. I am hoping the 50 1.2 will treat me right. That is my preferred focal length! Thanks for the nudge. Was just enough to push me over the edge! :)

    I think the field of view changes because the new lens is slightly shorter than the old one. So from the front element of the lens to the subject it will be a different distance.

    Nice Matt, love it! Thank you. Is there any way you could shed some light on the 24-70 II vs Ef 28 1.8, Sigma 50 1.4 and Ef 85 1.8 @ f/2.8? Or anyone for that matter. I shoot small weddings and with one 5D2 and these three lenses, things get a little hectic at times. I was thinking of picking up either a 2nd 5D2 or get this lens, sell couple of the ones I have, and pick up the EF 135 f/2. Thank you for any help in this regard.

    I was looking for a used 24-70mm 2.8 II for months but couldn’t justify my spending since I’m not a pro photographer; but just an amateur or hobbyist. The price for the used one now is going around $1,200-$1,400 depending on the condition. The mark I on the other hand is around $600-$800. I ended up getting a mint condition one for $550. Seeing the performance improvement is arguably less than 20%, I’m glad I got the mark I. Saved myself over $700.

    I think it's worth pointing out that there is quite a bit of variance in sharpness on the 24-70 v1. Lensrentals tested like 100 of them and it was pretty surprising how much it varied copy to copy. It seems like you had a good one for this test, but if you had one of the ok ones the difference between the 1 and 2 would have been much more drastic. I've had 3 different copies and could easily see the difference, one was much sharper than the other 2. Thanks for the nice review though!

    i already have too many L lenses and sadly I will likely buy this at some point. i've had version one and yes, it is SICK good. Was surprised to hear of a replacement. Get the biggest filter and step the treads down with adapters, or buy filters for every lens? How about those squear card filter types? (just crossed my mind watching this video cause thet threads have changed in canons lenses)
