I don't think I've seen anyone make as perfect a cut on a bandsaw as you did with those arcs. Damn, that was satisfying to watch.

@JackMackWoodturning 20 years?! Your talent and skill prove that of a well practiced tradesman but I didn't know a young pup like you would be old enough to work these machines 20 years ago! Very nice work! I'm impressed with your eye for detail and I can see you follow the "do it right or not at all" mindset! Same way my big brothers taught me:)
Wow….just, wow. I wish my Dad was alive to watch these videos. He was a master carpenter and spend a lot of time with his lathe. I’m totally blown away by the time and effort gone into this gorgeous piece of art, so so beautiful.

I just find your work fascinating to watch, like reading a book you can't put down. Both your skill and the right tools, combine to make beautiful works of art, and have answered many of questions of 'how the hell?'. Thank you!!
This turned bowl is gorgeous and incredible. It's amazing how you made it. What Molly Weinstien said is true. Your art works belong in galleries or museums. People need to see your extraordinary creativity. Thank you.
They say it is not the destination that is important, but the journey…but if your prep and lathe, and finishing work are the ‘ journey’ and the bowl is your ‘destination’, then both are as significant as each other. A work of art! I hope you got a good price for it.

I was thinking about the saw dust being used to fill homemade pincushions. My Dad was a woodworker up into his 90’s, and kept a box under his table saw to catch sawdust. During the summer before he passed(2017), I asked Dad for some of the sawdust to fill homemade pincushions. He said to take as much as I wanted. I ended up with 4 or 5 gallon-size ziplock bags. I want to made pincushions for the women in our family filled with sawdust from Dad’s/Grampa’s/GreatGrampa’s workshop.

@@JackMackWoodturning hi, Australia ✌😊
Cada peça é uma obra de arte!! Maravilhosos!!😀😍
A dizzy bowl is always a cool project. You can simplify this by gluing the half sections into full squares, marking the rings, and then cutting the rings on the lathe. It's quick accurate and you don't have to bother gluing half circles together. I put the squares on a piece of MDF that is mounted in the chuck with the squares held in place with double-sided tape so nothing goes flying off. Works great
@JackMackWoodturning
Жыл бұрын
I would have done that with solid wood but the laminations on this rainbow ply are a little sketchy.. too much force and they’ll part quite easily. You can imagine that as the rings part on the lathe they could easily go for a little bounce across the shop.. I fear they wouldn’t remain rings after that. That bandsaw and glueup was a much more gentle approach. Gentle isn’t normally my thing, but this was very delicate. 🙂
@joshblumenthal4873
Жыл бұрын
I get that. When I make a dizzy bowl, I make my own laminations but they are only about 3/16 when I cut the rings. I have an MDF disc I put in my chuck and then I hold the lamination there with a few strips of double sided tape so when I cut the rings they stay on the MDF. I cut all the rings and then take them off. Cool bowl
WOW! You do beautiful work. You certainly are gifted.
Absolutely beautiful 😍
I love this!! It’s beautiful 😊
Very beautiful!! 😍 I agree with the others that say it should be in an art gallery or museum. I don't know what it takes to get a gallery to display your work but I think it would be worth finding out. A couple of showings could seriously push up the monetary worth of your creations and create a strong following. Thanks for sharing your work!

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Gallery’s mostly show work for sale. And take 49% commission on the sale price. Iv displayed work in galleries for many years and also sold a lot of work that way. These days KZread is my gallery and I can sell my work directly to the customer for much more reasonable prices as I don’t have to double the price. My website shop is low on stock after Xmas but will be restocked in a week or so Www.Jackmackwoodturning.Com

@@JackMackWoodturning Wow! I'm sorry. I wasn't aware that a gallery would rip an artist off like that! I understand they need to make some money also but that's crazy! Maybe with a really well-known artist it would be reasonable but not with someone starting out and trying to promote themselves. Are online art auction sites (not ebay) just as bad? I read a tip once, regarding ebay and art pieces, that you can test out what people really think of your work by setting a pretty high minimum price, not shown (I just forgot the name for that), and see if people will accept and surpass it. It's like a test to see if you're either over or under pricing your work. Anyway..... Sorry for rambling on and thank you for sharing how galleries work. I will most definitely check your website out. I wish you continued success!!
