You fiend!
I think I’d just keep that pieces of wood as-is and stare at it on my desk all day haha.
The wood is pure gold 🤩 great grandpa had something out of wood he had. Reminds of our Swiss folks 😍Thanks Jack!
Man, I can’t even imagine the hours it took to shape it with rasps and even more hours it took to sand this piece! Beautiful! ❤

I love this! I think this is the first time I’ve seen a coffee cup made. Thanks for sharing! I guess there’s really no limits of what you can make woodturning.

Wow that is one purdy piece of wood!! Now it's purdy and functional
Thanks Jack for another masterpiece. Very beautiful. I shudder a bit every time I see you using the band saw or table saw with those gloves on though. As an ex cabinetmaker, we never ever allowed our employees to wear any kind of glove around machinery. My Dad actually lost two fingers while operating a table saw with gloves on. The glove caught the blade and pulled his hand in.

Fear not! They're nitrile gloves: skin tight, so next to no chance of catching and as strong in tension as you'd expect a 0.3mm thick elastic band to be, if they ever did.

Wore them 30 years as a mechanic and machinist. Cloth gloves may be a bad idea.

There are those that have not been injured yet using woodworking machinery, and those that are going to.
So enjoyable to see hand carving skills alongside turning work. What a beautiful piece. ❤
Now that was different, & SO pretty ! ❤
That mug would never leave my house!! I’m astonished as to how it turned out. Bravo sir

@@JackMackWoodturning I am watching your work from Finland and here the wooden cup is named Kuksa. It is a native Sami cup for every day use.
Beautiful! Thanks for sharing 😉
Fine work Jack, enjoyed watching the filing used to create the details. Perhaps creating a mate with a different type of burl would compliment it. 😄😄
Beautiful, thanks for sharing. 😮🇦🇺
absolutely stunning. thank you.
I love the smell of working with Thuya!
One very beautiful hand made coffee ☕️
Absolutely beautiful grain on this piece, I'd enjoy a nice cup of tea in that
That wood is absolutely beautiful. I can understand why it’s so prized. Wow. Ya done good, son.
Finally! A perfect cup worthy of the perfectly roasted/brewed coffee. I've been searching for a mug for many years. Now it seems the goal is clearly presented.
that wood looks like a wagyu a5 with a marbling score of 12
Stunning piece , the wood grain is amazing 🎉❤
I don't know what that wood is other than gorgeous...
Absolutely gorgeous!
Don't know much about this, but I think it looks like birds-eye maple.
So beautiful that is expertly completed! Simply Wow!!

$1000? Beautiful work but $1000? Who would spend $1000 on a wooden mug

The main reason why it's so much is because it's burled would, it's what gives the would it naturally shiny and unique appearance. Burled wood is expensive because of how rare it can be and how sought after it is for its beauty. Also because people would literally destroy hundreds of year old trees illegally to get there hands on such an expensive wood, so that they could either sell it, or use it for themselves.

I do have an idea for the cut off. Hollow out more to shape u want, fill cavity with foam, keeping flat sides. It will be easy to dig out. Make form for epoxy pour. Would make a beautiful flat sided vase. (some sanding required) Hate to see that go to waste. I do some wood carving by hand, and tend to look for abstract or odd shapes 😃 Thank you for your videos. Work is inspiring, drooling over that wood.
lovely mug!
Looks great.
Precious skills Jack thanks for sharing your art. My guess is the wood is a semi petrified fruit or nut tree root... maybe a walnut? I'm not sure though it's ever so lovely what ever it is. Ancient root system.
Beautiful and extremely creative ☕️ ❤
BEAUTIFUL
Imagine a chess set made of that stuff 😮
Amazing!!!!❤
Beautiful!!!!
Excellent technique and professional use of tools!
beautiful.
Very nice a beautiful piece of wood.
Stunning and very clever . Looks like it will be an expensive coffee cup though , Thuya Burl ? How permeable is it to liquid and did you use just Danish Oil on the surface ? 👏👏👏
beautiful!!!
$1,000? Who would pay that ? Lovely cup. Birdy

I was thinking this what makes is $1000 cup has to be clickbait, it's amazing and really well done and unless the wood is extremely rare $1000 wood 🤷♂️
@user-tu4pu3ee2e

@@TheAshers999 I mean, it is extremely rare... Personally never seen a burl this dense for sale at this size. Usually these are sold as veneer, no idea how close this one is to 1k (minus other production costs)
I would very much enjoy a cup a joe out of that cup!
I wish i had stacks of cash. I would be your top customer. Im a retired diesel mechanic/ metal machinist and my savings went to getting Dutch residency. Totally enjoy your channel
BUTIFUL. COFFEE. CUP.❤
retty darn good eye there Jack Mack . You are a true artiste . I have no idea what kind of wood it is , but it sure is beautiful . Does not look like anything I have seen in N.W. USA .
lovely cup, it turned out beautifully! it looks like amboyna burl.

Really cool video.. makes me want a lathe.. 👍
Well done. Looks great!
This is beautiful but I winced when you stuck your hands into a running lathe with a part on one side and a hard steel part on the other.
Beautiful! I am on a kick of 20 ounces or more coffee mugs. I like a large amount of coffee rather than small coffee cups.
Looks like a type of Burl wood species.
So very nice beautiful amazing
People commenting on this video: ‘It’s more a coffee gourd than a cup’
Beautiful sir
Very nice Cup😊
I worked as a ferrier assistant for a bit, and one of the things I learned there, is to use the entire rasp in long controlled strokes working on horse hooves, not rubbing against the grooves. I hope this helps with your hand carving.
@Mrsnichols1965

It might, if the wood were a hoof.
No instant coffee in that cup, only the good stuff. Cheers
Hi Jack, this episode came on my Google feed, and like that it did. FANTASTIC workmanship. You make it look easy. My guess on the wood species is snakewood. Cheers!
Perfect 👏👏👏👏👏👏❤️❤️
i was waiting for you to slather it in epoxy
Jack, first time watching your YT. Very cool on how you built this coffee cup. I really enjoyed. On the wood, my best guest is Snakewood ... only saw it one time ... never since ... Bob
You do nice work.... 😊
Мраморная деревятина 😊
Fantastic I love it what was that u wiped it down with?
Almost looks like with what you had left over after the band saw you could make a couple spoons or something
mmmm. Thuya Burl.... I can smell it, love it

,a cool video keep up the great content.. Thank you……
You have incredible talent. 😊 Wouldn’t mind having that $1000 dust collector in my abode. 😏😄
I have no idea what the wood is. All I can tell is it's very hard, very dense, beautiful and rare. It's a fantastic cup to sip coffee out of.
Very nice !
