Wood Turning Trash into Treasure: From Gross to Glossy

Woodturning a rotting terrarium wood into stunning hybrid vase using deep pour epoxy resin with dark green mica powder. Carefully tuned on my woodturning lathe using negative rake carbide chisel to shape it into the desired form. Sanded to 3000grit to a nice smooth surface then applied several layers of clear gloss lacquer for high end gloss finish.

What a beautiful vase - the colour is amazing!! I've not heard of terrarium wood before but it looks a very hard wood? 🤩

As you were showing it off at the end, the lighting sometimes made it look like there were clear portions, which got me thinking: What would something like this look like if you also dropped a few chunks of clear epoxy (possibly from offcuts, or pour some pieces of clear specifically for it) in with the wood? I think it could be stunning.

Perhaps the 😢site name should be changed to plastic turning !
Beautiful piece to timber, pity you had to cover it in plastic and then throw out 90% of that plastic. The waste and environmental cost is more than a little disgusting
