Unpopular opinion: No one is truly independent. We all rely on other people for a lot of aspects of our lives. When you can realize that and accept that, you will have a better appreciation for others. Also, "independent" people don't go on social media claiming that because they are too busy doing everything for themselves.

Yes but please don't tell them where we are at like on the lake, hiking a trail, at the library, at the book store, the gym, the hardware store, the auto parts store, camp grounds, art studios, race tracks etc because otherwise they will show up and ruin it for us.

All women who are single are very depressed. They won't admit and most won't ever tell you but they are. Their psychology is so F'ed up that they flip back and forth emotionally 100s of times on the same topic depending on their feeling and emotion that day. That's why women need direction and leadership - I didn't say authoritarianism but direction and leadership from a gentleman... you can be a nice dude and a leader at the same time. You are right about a relationship evolving to being about, taking care of each other. My wife of 33 years and I know we have each other's best interests at heart (and soul). Either of us would fare pretty poorly without the other in a short amount of time. Years ago I thought about what I would do if my wife was incapacitated (such as confined to a wheel chair) and had lost her vitality. Immediately, I determined I would stay with her and take care of her. How she treats me every day, I know she would do the same for me. I know VERY WELL, the grass is greener on MY side of the fence.

95% of the time when I hear someone say they are open minded, it becomes apparent very quickly that they don't know what objective reality is and have never contemplated it. I've brought this up to people and watched their brains short circuit, some just glazed over and never became clear again, others as the conversation progressed and we categorized things that are objective and things that are subjective you can see their eyes become more clear. To answer your question, it is because they have never contemplated this concept and are like a blind person feeling their way through a hoarders garage trying to understand the layout of a garden.
