The problem is the choice to use Morel mushrooms. They can be toxic, and even cooking them might not mitigate it. Its possible they might have even been shipped the wrong species of mushroom. In a way I agree with them, they didn't know the ones they were serving were an issue if uncooked, and even cooking them might not have made them safe. Bottom line is that the FDA needs to update their guidelines to include recommended best practices for preparation, or even possibly consider banning them outright.

I'm Japanese, and that's why I was against sushi becoming popular abroad. Sushi is a very delicate food, and in Japan it is made by chefs who have been trained for several years. I've had sushi in the US and it was really low quality, like learning how to make sushi from how to videos on KZread or tiktok. Incidentally, there is no such thing as raw mushroom sushi in Japan.

I assure you the ICU does treat for pain and use pain management. ICU likely took her out of sedation and lowered her dose of pain medications so she could understand enough to say goodbye to her son and husband.

Hearing the husband try to talk was painful. You can hear him mourning. This was just awful what happened to this poor lady.

​@@ttp_007It's perfectly safe as long as it's cooked. You can get food poisoning from lots of things. Raw meat, potatoes, cassava, cashews, etc if they're not cooked. But cooking removes the toxins. You can even get poisoned by thoroughly cooked food that has been improperly handled. This is a sad and unfortunate case, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't eat.

Wow, that is so heartbreaking! I feel so sorry for the family. I could see the pain in her husband’s eyes; my heart goes out to you. Just going out to enjoy a nice restaurant, only to have this tragedy happen… She sounded like such a sweet woman. Over 50 people getting sick from that restaurant?! That is insane. I was served u dercooked sausage in a restaurant. I took two bites and sent it back and said I didn't want anymore. Started getting sick about 2 hours later. The next morning I was struggling to breathe and said to call 911. Spent the next 2 days in a coma. Four days total in the ICU. Food poisoning is horrible and can be deadly.

Death is mysterious you can die at any moment, recently a girl who is my neighbour died on her birthday after eating cake she ordered online

they should be held accountable for killing this poor women, and be arrested and found guilty for their wrongdoings, may this women rest in peace.

To go out to lunch and then that meal be your demise is so sad. RIP to the mother who was loved by her family and had them in mind. I do hope the family can keep themselves together.

This makes me so sad. I'm sorry for the family and what this lady endured. How heartbreaking.

The way she had to pull everything in herself to write those final messages to her family.

How does a man keep it together this well after such a tragedy and 30+ years of marriage? I would be inconsolable.

it is, either they served raw Morel, which is toxic or even worst they served raw "lase" Morel which is extremely toxic.

So the restaurant served something they had no clue that had to be cooked but deny wrong doing. Hope they sue that restaurants socks off.

​@@bpavilion8994 I think they're some you could eat raw in a survival setting, but I feel like even people obsessed with mushrooms cook them even if they're safe. After some quick googling there's plenty of mushrooms that can be eaten raw, but the human body isn't very good at extracting nutrients from raw mushrooms.

Right! Even If even a few people who ate at the same restaurant get sick, it's obviously from something they consumed at that restaurant!! This poor Husband and family, needs to find a good Attorney!! Have each individual tested for signs of this deadly mushroom

I felt bad for John that he started crying when she wrote a letter to him and the son.

Reading the letters and seeing him recall her messages is just heartbreaking... I want to give this man a hug :(

Oh my heart breaks for this woman and her poor family. 💔 my deepest sympathy and condolences. I pray this terrible tragedy helps educate people about tjis, i had no idea, and ultimately leads to saved lives. 🙏

The only way Dave's Sushi should be left off the hook, is if they bought from a supplier that sold them "cooked" mushrooms which were in fact not. Then the supplier should go to court.....otherwise Dave's Sushi should go to court and lose.

Where i grew up There was a family of like 4 who all died eating toxic mushrooms they found in the wild. They were immigrants and maybe in their county this was safer. This was before apps that identify the mushroom or plants. Im so so sorry for your loss Screw Dave!!! Hope you sue!!!
