The Witcher 2 was where I started, weirdly enough, because my rubbish laptop wouldn't run the third one and I wanted to play something, at least, and had too hard a time with the first game. But it's honestly what got me hooked, and I loved it, in spite of how clunky it was - and I played it through probably 10 times just to explore each of the endings and choices. I absolutely LOVED this video, because it brought back both memories and a sense of nostalgia, but also reminded me how intense and meaningful The Witcher 2 was when I played through it. So for one, thank you for that!! ♥I also loved the insight into "What would Geralt do", especially compared to the choices I made, because I had no context on any of it when I did play it, and it was really cool to see. I can only imagine what kind of work this took to assemble, but I would (personally) be ALL over this same take on the third one!!

This video very nicely highlights one of my main issues with 3. Despite being the shorter game, 2 feels like it has so many more hard choices where there's no clear cut right or wrong, or situations where there are purposefully vague information to really lean into how Geralt isn't psychic but simply has to do his best with the information he has. There are definitely some tough ones in 3 as well, but there's just so many choices that are outrageously WTF out of character options for Geralt like "Act like a dick to an orphan", "Snitch on nonhumans to local witch hunters", "Leave your friends to die", "Kill longtime acquaintance for minor slight", etc. etc.

You forget that Geralt is almost too well-defined thanks to both the games and the books. But in the book Geralt also makes a lot of decisions that he (and we) later regrets. So making a stupid choice once in a while is actually being thorough in "What would Geralt do?".

I have never touched a single Witcher book until the long wait between 2 and 3. I am proud to say that my decisions in Witcher 2 perfectly matched the ones you listed, simply based on the lore available in the first two games, and my understanding of who the White Wolf is, as a person. Your masterful analysis truly put the capstone on the great design the first two had, even if their gameplay is... flawed to say the least. It really showed me why the hollow feeling I was left with at the end was so satisfying, I set out to clear my name of regicide, ended up an accessory to another regicide anyway, the actual assassin is a friend I am beholden to and one I owe big time, the massive big bad dragon I refused to consign to extinction (took Roche's path didn't even know it was Saskia at the time), my friend I could not help to carry on hope for Temeria, the non-humans got purged anyway, and the evil sorceress that orchestrated it all was just as duped as I was, I couldn't just stand by and watch her explode... In the end, I was left with a hollow feeling, I had accomplished nothing, got involved in a lot of politics and bore witness to a great deal of treachery and suffering, even Triss turned out to not be the famed sorceress that Geralt was in love with... I still insist that while the gameplay and sidequest stories of Witcher 3 are a massive upgrade, nothing any game has done (not just Witcher 3) matches the "so that's it huh?" Feeling that Witcher 2 gives you if you stick to Geralt's character. The same character they've been drip feeding you just sufficiently enough information to get you to question your choices every time you take them. Truth is, the very fact that you're choosing at all means you fell for the trap. A harsh lesson in what shaped Geralt into his morality in the first place, masterfully executed by the writers.

Thank you so much for your effort and love for the Witcher games and books. I gonna say something to the Stennis situation as well. I agree Geralt would never let someone die or even push into a lynch mob. He himself ran into a mob to safe dwarfs and elves and took a pitchfork for it and died. He clearly despise mobs their dynamic and all they stand for with every fibre of his beeing.

Great video, and some food for thought on some of these decisions. I do think you've overlooked a *very* big factor in the "give Iorveth his sword back" decision, though. Iorveth is in on the conspiracy to kill Foltest. He doesn't even deny this. Geralt is trying to prove his innocence, among other things. He has ZERO reason to give Iorveth his sword back when turning him over to Roche may be a big part of clearing his name. By the same token, traveling with Roche gives him a degree of protection that he normally would not have, as Roche can (and does) repeatedly vouch for his character, meaning Geralt can move relatively unhindered, something he would not be able to do following an infamous Scoia'tael commando around. Finally, Letho has *teleported* away. There is no longer any *rush* to get to Triss because Triss is gone and you only have a vague idea where. Spending a few hours sorting out Loredo isn't going to make a lick of difference. Either Triss is safe in Letho's hands, in which case, no need to rush, or she's not, in which case its already too late.

In my first or second play of W3 I chose to import my W2 choices, so when Voorhis was interrogating me I just made shit up as questions came. No clue, just utter bs, not knowing I would wind up meeting Letho in W3. Now, I do not face the Wild Hunt without him. I love his character and W3 quest. He's a prickly pragmatic ox, but he's a bro. I appreciate the absolute lore and detail you brought to this video. It's like having a history lesson from a really engaging teacher on a topic you are already nuts about. Instead, it'll bloom over the years and then one day, when you least expect it, it'll be at the top-most viewed, with tens of miliions of watches and a comment section so long, it'll rival the books of the series you're covering. I write this 7 months after you posted and, as you can see, the Algorythm can be a fickle god. But you're making something special. Continue bottling your passion and allowing it to age. yes i would absolutely love to see this format implemented on the witcher 3 because in my recent playthrough i decided to not skip all the side content and realized how tricky it sometimes can be to get a good or slightly less bad ending. For example in the quest in brookback bog where you can either free or kill the spirit under the tree this was a hard choice because i wanted the children to survive the spirit to be freed because the crones didnt want that and i didnt really care about the villagers that the spirit kills i think in the end i came really close but the dialouge didnt make it that clear if the children survived but if they didnt the cope was that they belonged to the corrupt villagers but i think they survived because it wasnt mentioned that the crones ate them they just didnt mention that the spirit saved them so yeah absolutely you should make a video about geralts choices in the witcher 3

I remember a tough choice in the Skellige quest involving a Leshen and a village with clashing generational ideals (I believe it is called In the Heart of the Woods)

As awfully tempted to watch this video as I am, I have yet to play the witcher 2, so i'm going to refrain to avoid being vastly spoiled. i will watch it as soon as I'm finished with the witcher 2. Having played the witcher 3 throroughly though, I'd be super excited if you made a video on it with the same concept. And also on the DLCs maybe.

Wow! The amount of effort you put into this video! Amazing! Increased my already big appreciation for Witcher 2 many times more ^^ You reminded me just how good of a game it is and how good stories it has in it. I had no idea how complex the quest "Little Sisters" was. I might have to continue my replay of the game once I get my computer working again (some day).
