This Wintergatan concert was one of the absolute last concerts of the touring on our first album. We have now taken a break from playing live to record our new double album and build the Marble Machine X. While we are in the studio/workshop doing that we thought we should share this last concert with you since its going to be a while before we are on stage again.
For the next tour we will make sure to book shows worldwide and we will bring the Marble Machine X and we are already looking forward to that, so hope to see you there and then and for now, enjoy this concert!
All the best from us,

If you want to support:
The fact that you are watching the videos and care about the music and future of Wintergatan is the best support anyone can have, I want to thank everyone who is here for that kind of support, it is really the fuel for the Wintergatan Engine.
PAYPAL ME

Why do we accept support in this way?
I, Martin, can already sustain myself 100% doing what I love to do. If you want to support artists/organisations who have not yet reached that privileged position, please consider supporting other artists/organisations who need the support more. With that said, I have too many ideas and too little time and with your support I can get more help from people around me to execute the ideas better and bring them out in the world faster.

Just watched it again. I am 74, have never watched another concert video all the way through more than once, but I've watched this one at least 10 times. Music box, typewriter, autoharp, a whistling bass player and a drummer who can play the theramin, only Wintergatan would dare to do this!

There's something about Wintergatan's music that really helps to calm me down. I can't quite put my finger on it, but their compositions and overall DIY vibe are like a gentle reminder that we're all human; a reminder that we're all experiencing this bizarre thing called "life" and doing the best we can to navigate it; a reminder to not take things so seriously and to take a moment to appreciate creativity.

Edit: the more times I watch the gig, the more OMG's I can see in it. THEY ARE BEASTS!!! OMG no.1 5:49 the autoharp is falling - Martin did'n even skip a single note OMG no.2 40:07 the MIDI pad is falling - Marcus finished his part and managed to catch it OMG no.3 41:55 David finished his bass part and took the control of the keys OMG no.4 50:17 the glockenspiel, the keyboard and the mallet kat play in unison that full of ornaments part. Breathtaking. OMG no.5 1:00:03 Evelina takes the melody from Martin as he's playing the autoharp again OMG no.6 Marcus plays like an hour drums and typewriter, and then just goes to the THEREMIN and (without the fretboard!) plays the part perfectly!!! OMG no.7 1:04:06 Earhtquake! The guitar sound and the power chords rock. Who could expect that calm and introverted Martin can compose something like that?! And finally LOL 1:06:23 Martin - perfectionist corrects the tuning before the very last chord...

One thing that fascinates me about this performance is how the same sound is played sequentially on more than one instrument by different musicians. It's easy to miss, but it happens several times completely seamlessly. Example: 1:03:44 Marcus plays the theremin, who then transitions to drums. Evelina takes over with a theremin patch on the keyboard. Musical pass of the figurative baton, very cool!

  • @TheReaverOfDarkness

BlueSparkle pointed out a good one at 59:56 in which Evelina takes the melody from Martin on the keyboard. They play the same note at the same time, then Martin lets go of the keyboard and takes the autoharp. I just saw another interesting and off the wall trick. 34:18 We can see Martin use the closing of the accordion to add to the sound regimen.

I started watching him because of the marble machine, but you really can't grasp his full musical prowess or career unless you really look for it. He is a truly incredible musician and so creative and imaginative. It's hard to catch on to that just watching him essentially as an engineer work on the marble machine.

Martin gave new light back to my life with his music alone. I am a 15 year old in the U.S., and I am very lucky to live in the conditions I am living in right now. No one in the world could wish for better parents, nor better living conditions. You would imagine how someone like me could get so depressed, and lose sight of what is really important. No matter your religion, race, etc. (yeah I'm not giving any lectures today) we are all human, and need a reason to want to live. As an instrumentalist, I have never heard such beautiful music and creativity. It inspires me to be the very best me, and make a positive difference in this world. Never be afraid to make mistakes, but don't be careless either :P.

Gosh. Calling him just a genius is an understatement. Each of his videos deserves more than a million likes, not just 29k likes on this video which is sooo unfair. Not even the class of Armin van Buuren, Martin Garrix or Calvin Harris can ever touch Wintergatan's level ever. I just wish I could meet this guy. Gosh he is from a different world. this concert is the most beautiful and pure thing I've ever listened to. absolute genius. the intuition over how the instruments operate, the communication between band members. the shared experience between band members and audience members. even in performance, it is apparent that both the musicians and the audience enjoy what they are hearing/doing. the entire experience is both tactile and audibly mesmerising. "a good time was had by all" could not have better been explained. the emotional variety of this music is stunning, as is the cultural span and yet it sounds as if it's it's own brand all to its self. sure, there are no lyrics, but incorporating an expertly skilled whistler was marvellous and mind blowing. everything about this concert visibly or invisibly is breathtaking.

Amazing fact is how humble he is talking about and revealing many mistakes about the marble machine. Also, its fascinating how art and creativity makes you create something that is well beyond of reach (construction and architecture skills required to build that machine) just purely driven by idea, music and sound in your head. When we concentrate and focus on something lead by our creativity,we create wonders. An architect or skilled craftsman would never get an idea to create a marble machine just like musician would never get an idea for a beautiful and groundbreaking building or discover new construction material.

What a perfect ending to this show: a epic 13 minutes Paradis where everyone is just on point. The hard to play theremin spot on, you could see the grin on Marcus' face :-) Every single one of you really seemed to enjoy this. And what a pleasant sight to see Martin grab the guitar and play that really dirty, heavy rock riff at the end. The man, that is always so humble and quiet and here he really rocks and breaks the chains (may be there are no real chains to break - but it's totally different to the Martin we see in all the youtube videos)! This song evolves so much and has so many facettes to it, I would love to see you live someday and listen to this acoustic Paradis(e) :-)

The difference is that many bands and artists learn an instrument and then start putting words to it to create "music." Wintergatan makes music and then finds fun ways to make it a reality. Give me some random instrument and ask me to make music, I will try to relate it to the instruments I know how to play and it won't be very good. These guys already know what they want to hear, so they can manipulate different objects to get the sounds they are looking for. Every noise has purpose. (Similar if you ever have heard interviews with Michael Jackson. The guy planned every single friggin note and tone down to the millisecond. You don't see much of that anymore these days.)
