Winter Hiking in Tongariro National Park - Blyth Hut Overnight Trip
After a good dump of snow and with a perfect forecast ahead, I head down to Tongariro National Park to walk into Blyth Hut for the night. I had an awesome trip, taking my time to enjoy the snowscape.

Thanks very much!
Wow. How good was the weather and the views, and the solitude. It doesn't get much better than that.

Thanks Peter. There were a couple of people around and 2 at the hut. But very quiet in general, for a Saturday!
Beautiful 👍

Cheers TJ. Haha good to have some hut shoes, but yeah glad to have brought the boots for this one
The snow on the fields and tops of the shrubs is spectacular; it reminds me of the deep South here (USA) of cotton fields when the balls are ripe. Beautiful, isn't (wasn't) it? What an experience. Thank you.

Thanks for dropping by, hope you've had some good missions yourself!
Stunning scenery bro. I did the Round The Mountain with a mate a few years ago in summer. Winter looks amazing.

Gorgeous and inspiring! Was that a weekend or mid week trip? I'm trying to gauge the popularity of the huts.

Thanks a lot! Amazingly this was a Saturday night. I passed a lot of day walkers but shared the hut with only 2 others. But I usually count on a lot of people on a weekend. A Saturday night at Oturere hut last year involved a very crowded night!
Great scenery and video man, I've done day walks there before in summer and was actually contemplating doing the Round the Mountain circuit last week, but due to not having any experience tramping higher altitude areas of Tongariro Park in winter conditions with snow (except for tama lakes track) I thought I'd play it safe. This video makes me wish I was there, nice work :)

All your videos are great btw, I'm inspired to go back to the Kaimanawa's for a hike now (Also pretty in winter) and explore the Kaweka ranges too (Not been there yet), wind forecasts last week looked pretty strong in Kaweka but hopefully I will go soon.

Thanks very much! Recently there's (finally) been a few good weather windows that would have worked for the whole circuit, but always good to play it safe at this time of year with shorter walks. The snow was great fun but multiple days in it would be slow going! At least summer gives those lush colours of alpine plants, floral smells and magical long days of walking. Cheers

@@132435465768798030 Thanks again! All magical places. I'm looking forward to more of the Kaweka among other places too. Watch out for bitter winter winds on the tops, otherwise hope you get out there!

@@132435465768798030 Thanks for the update! Fantastic to hear that road is open again. How was it? Once summer starts showing I think I'll do what you did and continue on a loop of the northern half of the park from there. Can't wait!
