3 Days Hiking Kahurangi National Park - Boulder Lake & Adelaide Tarn

My first time tramping in Kahurangi National Park, and it was a stunning introduction. After heading into Boulder Lake Hut at the northern end of the park, I decide to extend my original overnight plans by adding another day to visit Adelaide Tarn and Hut, and was glad I did. It was some truly awesome country to walk.

Beautiful country. Boulder Lake was used for gold sluicing back in the day.

Thanks for watching. So much gritty gold mining history in Kahurangi. Tough life!

Thanks guys. I had an epic time. Boulder Lake is a great overnighter. Worth the long gradual climb

Beautiful. A rifle makes an excellent trekking pole. You should swap one out. Plenty of red deer there.

Cheers for watching. I saw heaps of goats on these few trips in the Richmonds and Kahurangi. Looking forward to picking back up the hunting again back home this winter

It was hard to push play when I saw the title because of extreme jealousy feelings. That park is my favourite place ever. So big, so diverse, so beautiful. That climb sounded taxing and some of the track looked non existent. Epic views and a mint day to do it though. I bet it felt hidden away from the universe in that hut. A perfect place to relax enjoy the outdoors with no distractions. Some of the route look ambitious, on the way in and that day walk. No benched track there. I think I’d have been tempted to just relax around that hut and lake, or at least get to the ridge and say look, Adelaide hut, nice, now return. Your legs and lunch are machines built for mountains. And the weather gods follow you. Great video, and loved the guitar music. Perfect for the scenery. I went to Napier to try that Kaweka one, but pulled out bc the weather was too dodgy and it didn’t feel right to risk it alone. 5hrs in the car there then 5hrs in the car home the next day.

Thanks heaps again for watching. The track had a few overgrown parts on the way up, and I followed my nose at times on the way to Adelaide. Definitely non existent in that tussock labyrinth 😂 The hut really did feel like that. I felt like I wanted to live there! Haha, thankfully it all lined up to visit Adelaide and I knew it could be a once in a long while chance. I was glad to make the most of the opportunity. Sorry to hear about that. I've been there, committing to a drive only to bail due to weather or gut feelings (it happened on this south island trip) It's disappointing and hard to manage your own expectations but I reckon it's always better to go with your gut than push yourself into something that's not fun, or worse dangerous. Thanks again

I appreciate keeping the commentary to a minimum and let the footage speak for itself. I wonder if you might at the beginning just include a map and maybe a little about the area since this can be viewed anywhere by anyone? I enjoyed watching this 12000 miles especially now age and knees do not permit me to do this sort of thing myself anymore. Regards and best wishes.

Thanks very much for watching, and your comment. I do agree a map graphic would make it easier to follow and understand context. Thanks for the suggestion
