When his partner said "it's okay to be scared". This is perfect as it allows the child to feel whatever he or she needs to feel without judgment. Many people say "don't worry", or "it's okay, there is no need to be scared" This type of language sends a message to the child that it is not okay to be afraid or to feel whatever they're feeling and can lead to inauthentic behaviour and emotional repression later in life. Thank you... This is a wonderful example of giving space to a child in order to allow them to develop with minimal interference. Only intervening when the child expressed a need for physical and emotional support.

I have to admit to say "stop beeing worried, I'm here. I'll catch you!" or "Stop crying! nothing happened." to calm the situation without even realizing, It may lead my children to think "The way I feel is wrong" and this may result in something like "I'm wrong". Thank you for sensitize me with your comment!

5:23 is my favourite moment, when the kid just says "No" when Wim goes to help. He knows his limits and capabilities clearly and he knows he wants to do this himself. It's such a confident "No". Every person, young or old, instinctively knows how to behave around their edge. Those instincts have to be protected

Also when you was a true rolemodel and climbed high after helping your son, then i think he forgot all his previous fears and got excited to go more. This is the way of a real alpha leader. Without showboating, just natural stuff. We need more of those and in the right positions.

It's natural instinct for children to climb tree's, explore, test etc. For a parent suppress that instinct is harmful for the child's development and self-esteem. Love from Australia

00:55 how true is that! I was always climbing things, falling off and bruising bits but like you say, it’s character building and utilises parts of the growing brain that just aren’t used by today’s generation of mollycoddled children. Nowadays, children are busy being bullied, abused and brainwashed online instead of just being children outside, where they could be learning the invaluable skills of resilience, problem solving and confidence. BTW, what a cute kiddo 😊

Times change....60 ..plus years ago..it was a natural thing to just go out and play...we were sent out...no parents to watch over us.. We got on and learned ..sometimes the hard way...parents were busy keeping house and providing...no mod cons etc...as one of five siblings we were told to go out and come back for dinner ..shared bath water and shared bed in a house with no heating except one fire...hey ...we were so happy ..and free..❤🤞

We have a nearly 3 year old boy, he is everything to us... My partner (dad) is very protective of everything he does , even clambering around on the sofa , I since found out why he's to scared of our little boy climbing, so when my partner was a teenager, one of his friends little brothers (toddler age) was climbing on a big set of drawers, the whole thing has fallen on top of him , 😔 an he didn't survive.... It's absolutely sad an so tragic.. but I keep trying to reassure my partner our little boy will be safe aslong as you are right beside him .. 😔

My childhood friend and I would climb 80 foot Eucalyptus trees when we where 8 years old. The higher I climbed and the more focused I was the more fearless l became. When I got to the top and looked down I was scared shitless. It took me five minutes to climb up and thirty minutes to climb down. I could have fallen just as easily on the way up as on the way down. 90% of fears is just your mind playing tricks on you. A wise man once told me FEAR is just False Evidence Appearing Real. Win handled the situation pertect.

My daughter earlier in her 3s would climb and get into situations with no fear, in parks for 5+ yos. As she gets older her fear and anxiety has been overtaking her in social situations and the same things she was great at climbing now has a hesitation to them. Fear and anxiety is our thinking taking over and pausing is, but letting go is the answer for so much of this.
