We will definitely get it running again. Do you have any ideas about what the problem could be? I think I'm going to check the inertia switch (someone commented that could be the issue) and put some new plugs in it, because that plug I pulled out was in bad shape.

That's a good idea. I hadn't thought about the inertia switch. I'll definitely give that a go. And that theft light goes off completely once the key is put in. Thank you.

I did try that but it didn't work. I found water in the spark plug holes, cleaned it out, and put new plugs in it. But it still won't start.

I’d try all new spark plugs first. Looks like they are fouled up. If so they will just keep flooding and that’s why you smell gas

I hope it's nothing major. I'm going to go back and check the inertia switch and do spark plugs before putting a timing kit on it. The owner said the original paint was in really bad shape so that's why he painted it. He will be painting it all black in the future.

It seemed like it to me too. And none that I can read with OBD2. It has an engine light but nothing comes up when I plug in the scanner. I did end up finding water in 2 spark plug holes. I cleaned it out, and put all new plugs in the car. But it still won't fire. Maybe the coils on those 2 cylinders are bad?

@DavidMcall i feel like it has something to do with the slow crank. You could pull all coils and plugs at the same time and turn the key with the gas pedal floored to see if the engine cranks any faster. My thinking is if the starter can't overcome compression then it might not have enough juice to start the car. for the slow crank it could be the battery or the starter. I'm no mechanic, just spitballing here lol

@@MarclenChin well it was cranking nice and fast this last time I was over there. I had different cables this time. The others were garbage. I'm going to pull the valve covers and check the chain.

Why would you not hook a scanner up first? Check for historic codes and read live data. Just throwing parts at it isn’t the way to get the car going.

Oh I definitely did. My camera was overheating alot cause it was extremely hot so I unfortunately lost alot of footage. But the car did have a check engine light. I plugged up my computer and oddly enough it came up with no codes.. an engine light but my computer won't detect any codes? What do you make of that? I definitely agree on not throwing parts. I happen to just have those two parts lying around so I figured why not give it a try. Someone commented that it could be the inertia switch. So I'll probably check that next. Thank you.

What type of scanner are you using? You could have body or transmission codes that your scanner is not capable of reading. I’d also make sure all my connections at the modules are good (chassis, engine, transmission). If any water got in any connector it could have corroded a pin out.

@@JCDixon69 I have OBD 2. I just find it odd that the car was driving fine, and then just wouldn't start the next day. It wouldn't take one of those $5k scanners to read those codes would it?

Not necessarily a $5K scanner, but something with the capabilities that are similar. I have the Autel MX808 that I use, I think I got it on sale for $475.00 3 or 4 years ago. It has been a life saver for me. It does things a run of the mill autozone scanner dreams of doing.
