Wild Horse Adoption January 2023
Check out the animals from Oregon's Wild Horse Corral Facility available for online auction, January 23-30, 2023!
In this latest auction event, there are 61 horses from southeast Oregon, along with many more from other parts of the West. The Oregon horses available range from 4 to 18 years old and come from the Stinkingwater, Pokegama, Beatys Butte, and South Steens herd management areas. All 61 of these horses are eligible for the BLM's Adoption Incentive Program, which gives $1,000 to qualified applicants who adopt an untrained animal. Eighteen of these horses are also available for the BLM’s Sale’s Program, which allows for direct purchase and immediate ownership.
Before horses and burros are shipped from the facility, they are given a final brand and health inspection from a veterinarian. Geldings and mares from Stinkingwater and Beatys Butte herd management areas adopted during this auction will be available for pick-up in various locations across the U.S. Mares from the South Steens Herd Management Area MUST BE PICKED UP at Oregon’s Wild Horse Corral Facility IN HINES within 30 days of the completion of adoption paperwork.
See all the individual animal profiles and sign up to adopt today: wildhorsesonline.blm.gov/Animals. If you have any questions, call 1-800-370-3936 or email blm_es_inet_adoption@blm.gov. Or you can contact Oregon’s Wild Horse Corral Facility: 541-573-2749.

Don't be decieved, these horses are the best of the best, scared disoriented with no trainting and no quaranties on their fates. Now lets see the conditions of the rest of these Nations Treasure under the magement of BLM, certainly not Treasureed in any way. Very deceptive web site and showing, not representing most of the BLM horses and their conditions and treatment and what happens to most of these horses at sale. A true national disgraced. Please do your research and do not take this web site at face value.
OMG....I wish I had a 200 acre ranch to adopt them all.....and not a 650sq ft. apt. These horses are so beautiful. Takes my breath away!!

You need 3 acres of grazing pasture PER ANIMAL. Don't think your 200 acre fantasy farm will be sufficient. Nice try though 😂
In my country, being able to get horses this beautiful for only 125 bucks is only a dream. Anyone who gets the chance to adopt one of these beauties is lucky!

But are the horses in your country trained when being sold for so much? These ones have never been around humans so are essentially wild animals. Sure they are cheap, because the training they will need as well as vet care for whatever they could have from the wild is going to be thousands, if not more. They are a blank slate horse pretty much, meaning they have no vet history, no training, no trust to people, etc. But when I have such money to own an untrained mustang, I will definetly be going with one from these people. They are gorgeous mustangs.

We adopted one last month. He is wonderful. My daughter spends hours every day training and bonding. Last night, we slept outside of his corral. Lots of training, massage and interaction. :)
All of them are very healthy looking. Don’t seem to be hurting for food. I adopted one last September and I could see her ribs when I got her. But got her fattened up and her gentling is going great. ❤

A good majority of those mares are pregnant, and the BLM & local ranchers drop winter hay out for mustangs so they don't starve. Population control is necessary with grazing animals, especially when you've got a large number of different grazers on the same land.
What gorgeous colors and patterns! The horses look great!
It warms my heart immensely to know there still exist feral horses. I hope we humans keep a slot in the world for them to continue their living their best lives!

All the pretty horses! January was a good month for paints!
These horses are absolutely stunning.
These are some of the most beautiful BLM horses i have seen absolutely Beautiful ❤
I felt bad because some of the horses were overly terrified from being confined and chased by the flags. The overo at 2:11, the dunskin at 9:46, the tovero at 6:59, the silver bay at 13:30, the two horses between 16:09 and 16:47(flaxen tobiano and seal brown), and the dunalino at 18:30 were very anxious. Poor babies. Auction is a scary place. I hope all these lovelies end up in spectacular homes. At their luck, maybe a sanctuary such as Skydog will pick them up.

7782 the silver bay at 13:30 timestamp stood out to me, he is so cool. I looked him up, he is no spring chicken at 10. But he's big at 15.1 hands. South Steens. There are other big South Steens horses that are of a more reasonable age to start one. So many amazingly colorful horses. is it just me or does the quality of BLM horses get better too? I think the BLM is doing a good job. Wish I could have one.

They sure do look nice and healthy, you did a great job of moving them around as quietly as possible as so potential adopters can see all sides of them especially their legs, Keep up the good work.

Duh they can't control what happens after the adopter has title. If owner wants to take it to an auction that is their business if they want to sell it online that is their business if they want to give it away to any Joe Blow they can that is there right like it or not that's the way it is.
@WTP.326

Duh, people are adopting them to make money selling them at auction. They get paid by the government as soon as they get titled and then they make more money dumping them at auction where they inevitably go to slaughter. It’s gross. Making money off the destruction of the few wild things we have left in this country.
These are beautiful horses! So much color.

Love the strong builds on these horses. 7747 might just be the prettiest color I have ever seen.
Gorgeous horses! I miss the old music though.
Love them all 7950 was incredible
Drop the AIP and make sure adopters are committed to one or two horses with a lifetime including gentling, training, not recycling to kill pens.
I loved the horse at 11:28 #7747. Wish I could know that he got a fabulous home! I wish I could know they ALL got incredible homes. I understand the need to keep the population down, but it's sad that so many bands of families are broken up. They miss their band members.
Really a good horse just makes me want it
What amazing color and paints.
Wow they’re beautiful 👍🏻
Beautiful horses. I can't believe how many people spend thousands of dollars on all the colored showhorses and yet would never buy a Mustang. ...with that said, I know a lot of trainers refuse to take on Mustangs because they require so much more time and don't usually put up with a lot. ...But I also, believe that a spunky, curious horse is usually a healthy horse. So cheers to the mustangs.

7971 is definitely one of my favorites!
Beautiful and confused, trying to figure out what some crazy people are gonna do to them.😢💔😢
Some pretty nice horses! Hope they get a chance at a Mustang Make over!
Beautiful combination of colors and patterns! Never seen Pinto patterns in so many colors, palomino, grey, tri color grey, etc. Just beautiful!
When I was young, my Aunt got a mustang from an auction she said could be mine. She had land with other horses, so it was just a nice thing. I think it was out of pity, and hoped she could rehabilitate her. We named her Liberty, because she had a brand on her neck that said that. The poor thing was skinny, dirty, no spirit, and had a broken hip with a seeping wound. We did everything we could for her. Liberty had to be put down due to the hip getting worse and infected, and I'll never forget her. She's the only horse I've ever had. I wish I could experience one like these. This all was in Oregon, but in the late 70's. I wonder if it was from this same outfit. I think it had to be, but times were different then, and a scraggly broken down horse was probably the norm.
I’m so sad about them being taken out of their home. :(
So where are the bays and the chestnuts and the basic browns? You know, the ones that nobody wants because they're not as pretty? I think too many horses are judged purely on color. We all have the patterns and the colors that we like but if that's the only thing you're picking a horse for then you're going to get burned someday.
They are all beautiful, colorful...wish I could have one
what is wrong with just letting them stand in the stall? why flag them to run?

Once the adopter takes title, he or she can sell a horse, who knows where they go from there. There’s no control over that. I don’t see how there could be.

You cannot sell an adopted mustang for 1 year. You will be inspected randomly during that year and the horses are tracked via a coded freeze brand on each. I know there are people who violate the rules but my personal experience was great and I had a fun with nice horse.

Its sad seeing these horses like this. They were once running free and wild and now they are captive and obviously terrified!
@pokiedext4223

They are terrified because they are in an unknown environment. They are perfectly fine otherwise. Wild horses do not belong in the wild. They are an invasive species. If you don't support pythons in Florida, you shouldn't support them in the wild.
Very nice they all looked great for what they are. Big boned borderline fat most of them. So much better than what you see out Nevada way.

Жыл бұрын
I hear ya.. However, they could kill a grown man right now.. more then just nervous. Dangerous. As a trainer, that is the quickest way to be able to watch how they move, spot issues and or see ALL the horse's good points as well. Not to mention, knowing they are in a high stress mode, allows you to assess their mental capabilities. It is a lot of pressure but it it's temporary. Looking at the bigger picture, that 15 min. they think their gonna die, is actually very much needed for a decent chance to be adopted by the right person. Also, from a trainer's perspective... There is NO avoiding that primal "flight or fight" mode, at the moment.. Regardless of their surroundings. Gotta give them auction guys credit for hiding, actually! That way the horses don't start off assuming that human's are only there to chase them around. I'm positive they got plenty of that gettin rounded up, seaporated, branded, vac.s and med. checks, plus hauled in the auction yard. It's a hard knock life, horse or man, at least they ain't dog food ya know. G'uck if you thinkin bout adoping, they are another caliber of critter compared to a "domesticated pet"
