BLM MUSTANG ADOPTION | Picking Out My New Mustang

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

I finally finished putting together the videos from adopting Jude last month! In this video you will get a general idea of how mustang adoptions usually go, a little background information on why they are necessary, and how I pick out a mustang. I hope you find this is educational and entertaining! If you enjoyed it, make sure to like and subscribe!

    Those horses aren't "picking fights." They've put multiple bands together, freshly castrated half of them, and then shoved a bunch of unsocialized animals in pens that are too small in front of humans. They're trying to re-establish the pecking order. Completely normal.

    Terese Durand exactly. This is obviously a stressful situation, but the way a horse handles stressful situations can tell you about how receptive they will be to training.

    You just contradicted yourself in saying that they aren't picking fights but are establishing a pecking order; that is what picking fights means. The only reason there wasn't more of a fight was because none of the other horses wanted to be at the top of the pecking order like that one did.

    Still, someone who isn't extremely skilled with problem horses in problem situations shouldn't be encouraged to adopt a horse like that black mare. That mare is also an example of many mares/stallions in a domestic setting as well. It is the demeanor of the horse.

    @@CamillesMustangs Ooh, maybe do an update video on how he's doing? I'd love to see him! My own horse is a bay tobiano paint mare, 15hh Quarter Horse, named Spirit. Every year she changes color. In winter she looks black, almost no brown unless seen in strong direct sunlight. In spring she turns much lighter brown, her shedding winter coat heavily flecked with gold amd red. But my favorite is summer! Some years she'll be darker brown with golden blonde ears, poll, hips, loins, and muzzle. Other years she has hints of red instead right before the chocolate brown fades to a far paler shade... I can't describe it. This year it looks like she'll be medium chocolate brown with tiny hints of blonde. Summer is the only time I can see her black leg markings clearly, since they're mostly covered in white, and otherwise too dark.

I'm also trying to sell, or give away my rocky mountain mare, who is also registered to someone who could take care of her. I've been riding my youngest sorrel mare but she has a leg injury that is reoccurring so i can't ride her as hard. I still go on small trails which she has proven she can handle. Anyway nice video, it's good seeing people adopt mustanges rather then letting them go to kill buyers.

    $100 dollars to get a Mustang? Damn. As someone aspriring to own horses later in life, I still have a lot to learn. I'm currently trying to get a job as a ranch hand on a 20 acre ranch. Anyways, good informative video👍👍

    This is so depressing. I wish the BLM would improve reproduction control instead of continuing to just round them up and hope for the best

  • @CamillesMustangs

    @CamillesMustangs

    That is the goal but reproduction control does not solve the problem that there are currently too many horses on the range that are starving due to overpopulation

  • @rulagarry1142

    There have been some studies done on reproduction control, but the BLM doesn't have the budget to round up and castrate the necessary number of males, nor are there any cost effective birth control options for mares at the moment.

  • @annie4horses

    @annie4horses

    It takes at least 5 years for birth control to be fully effective. It's a good long-term solution that can be used with short term methods, i.e., adoptions.

    There are too many uninformed public’s that oppose sterilization efforts. They claim them to be “cruel” and infringe on the “wild value” that mustangs represent.

    @@CamillesMustangs Since I am here in Nevada, I can tell you that really is not a problem either. The problem is the guys who run the BLM, don't really give a damn about the horses. They are too busy playing big shot in their departments. There are plenty of people who are donated time and resources to make sure the horses have water and feed, especially in the winter time.

    I have a Mustang, named Tracker. All we really know about his past is that he used to be a jail horse (one Prisoners rode). But then a lady adopted him, because he didn't grow as big as they wanted him to. And then we got him from her.

    You shouldn't get a mustang as a first horse. Believe me I've seen people get horses that have no idea what they are doing and then the horses pay the price at slaughter. In no way am I saying that you have no idea what your doing I'm just saying that you should maybe get an older experienced horse for your first horse. Or you could volunteer at a horse sanctuary and learn how to properly do everything. You need to have a lot of patiences with training a horse, especially a mustang. Just because people do it on KZread doesn't mean its all rainbows and flowers. Things can go wrong very quickly. You have to keep in mind that you are starting a horse. A horse that knows absolutely nothing about being domestic. So please consider getting a horse that you have the ability of riding and training. No I am not trying to be the "horse police." Just please consider speandinh years with horses before you get a mustangs. I'm not hating I'm just giving you advice.
