Extremes - 2017 Wild Mustangs of SE Oregon April

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

April 2017 trip Time: About 28 minutes.
This trip "Extremes" we experienced - from extreme weather to extreme emotions, we felt it all out there. It is safe for all viewers. If you like roaming those mustang trails with me, I hope you subscribe for free and click on the bell next to that beautiful red button for future videos I share- thank you!
This one goes down in the books as the Trip of Extremes.
From new foals to loss, we saw it all. Even the weather had it's wild unpredictable moments being spring on the high desert. Parts of the HMA are closed off due to Sagegrouse clear into mid May, and so we spent more time hiking to areas- miles and miles... and uphill both ways it seemed 😉 .
The weather was rather fickle- trying not to trip over lava rock, hoofing it up hill while less than gracefully removing layers as the sun beat down- no time to waste when we have miles to cover. But as extremes have it, as soon as I shed the layers, the cold wind began to blow, blowing in a large storm cell right overhead, and started hailing.
To read more and see the album, Like my fb page Mustang Meg and view the journal, retelling and reviewing the trip: media/set/?v...
Disclaimer: I am not a videographer, just toggled on my camera between vids and stills, so not a steady video- no tripod, on coffee, and excited, with sudden bursts remembering to get video.
And if you have kids, Grandkids, or the GreatGrands, sit them with you and tell them- Yes, we do still have wild horses running on spacious lands out west belonging to the public - and that these icons and symbols for freedom are also their heritage, and they in turn, are the mustang's future guardians.
Keeping the west WILD!

This is the first time I've had a look at your films and had a chance to see the Mustang bands of SE Oregon. I live on British Columbia just south of Vancouver and in the past we took some amazing trips down the west coast of the USA through the Horse Heaven Hills. When travelling, I always have my eyes open for Mustangs and I will now watch 'on-line' as well. Thanks for the excellent films and commentary.

They are so beautiful and they belong on the land more than the cattle. I love how you can see the friendships between the stallions in the bachelor herd. Once again proving that horses are not mindless beasts, but are intelligent and highly emotional creatures.

I never knew the mustangs existed in Oregon. They are beautiful beyond words. So majestic, I have learned more from the different videos about mustangs on utube then any other place. Their bands/families needs to be preserved. They belong free, on protected lands, just like the other species, buffalo, grizzly. If not they will not exist. Thank you for ur video.

Too gorgeous to believe, obviously wild, these horses are lovely to watch. They look as if from a top riding stable, not scrub plains, despite the varied markings and completely random patches. Nice video for those like me who may have only seen photos of mustangs. What has been said suddenly makes sense about these special horses.

Thank You for posting these beautiful family groups. Shaman is so gorgeous! I have a soft spot for Sabinos, medicine hats, and overos, Buckskins and grullas and roans. I believe people forget this is an ancient breed, not just a wild horse. There are bloodlines to preserve and colors that are hard to fine in other breeds, such as blue, like the mustang Sequoia, which is almost extinct as a color. It's hard to find blue, and Gypsy Vanners are the only other breed I've seen the blue color show up in besides mustang's it's so rare. We certainly have to fight harder for these horses, and with our current president I am worried he will wipe them out, and sweep it under the rug. I never understood why mustang's are treated so different than other wildlife. If Chincoteague can manage their herds without causing such devastation as happens to the mustang's its do-able with mustang's too. Family groups should NEVER be split up and the reckless way they capture them needs to change drastically. Rescue groups and horse lovers need to have more say, and they should not be treated like merchandise, but living, breathing, feeling creatures. I had an idea that I never understood why others don't think of. We dont need large holding facilities. We need willing and caring trainers to take the adoptable ones to personal farms, train them and release the others back to the wild in smaller operations, so that family groups stay that way, less or no injury is caused and the horses that have to be removed get great care and amazing homes. If humans are so intelligent why have we worked in such violence? I am so glad you do this and teach your family the balance of life. We all have a right to this planet. Not just humans. We can do this stuff lovingly if allowed and not controlled by a mechanical thinking government.

This is just spectacular! The documentation and filming you're doing is SO valuable, especially now that public lands are under threat from Washington. Lets hope they come to their senses. I love the action in this, the sense of "horse culture" and the bond displayed in these bands. I can't wait to watch your other videos! I live in Klamath County, quite far from the wild horses, so it's a wonderful treat to see them.

Amazing footage! Gorgeous shots of wild horses. These stallions are all different and the text inserted is a fascinating insight into herd behavior. Many times all the horses turned and looked at the camera, "what are those humans doing with that weird box pointed at us?" Mostly curiously evaluating whether to run away or just hang out a little longer to see what those predator types are up to. When Esprit comes trotting up, he looks like he is going to chase you potential threat to his herd out of there. I would have gotten a little nervous. But he's so beautiful! You got other animals, too. Mule deer, antelope, coyotes, etc. Subscribing and thank you so much for posting this video! Now I have to see what else is on the channel :)

There is an organisation in Australia owned by 2 sisters who inherited from there uncle a 70 000 hectare property. They purchase captured and corralled brumbies, like mustangs, wild horses from the land and environment which is owned by the state. Once they purchase them they drive them back to their property and set them free again. What beautiful sisters. they also have an orphanage where they take in horses that have been neglected by their owners and they give them love and care and get them to a stage where they are sold to good homes

A group of us known as the Oregon Mustang Group- or OMG, we mostly collaborate together, sometimes including readers from my www.mustangmeg.com page or the SSWH page on fb. We've also decided that the first person to document a new mustang or foal can have first dibs on naming if they like. OMG is made up of about a dozen regular photographers to the South Steens.
