Tribute to Thor Wild Stallion of McCullough Peaks in Wyoming by Karen King
Үй жануарлары мен аңдар
This is a tribute to the life of the amazing stallion, Thor of the McCullough Peaks in Wyoming. He died battling another stallion by receiving a head trauma. It's very rare for a stallion to die in battle, so this was a shock to everyone who followed this magnificent stallion. I hope this video will help people to heal from this great loss by remembering the great stallion he was.

Thank you. I will always remember him.
Thor was truly an icon of the Peaks and he truly was the very essence of Wild he stole so many hearts including mine and I am still in shock that he is gone. There will never be another horse on the range quite like Thor and though I will always wish I could have seen him in person I am grateful that I got to fall in love with him and his family through the many photographers who watched him for years losing Tupi first and now him makes this so much harder,I am so glad that he lived his whole life doing what he was meant to out on the range living every single day free bc that spirit of his would never have been suited as a riding horse no matter how kind humans would have been to him. Thank you for such a beautiful tribute Karen it made me cry you are forever loved Thor.🥺🐎🤍🖤🌈

Thor. Incredible stallion. 14 years of freedom. His little girl Thora was taken to holding. Mankind tries to tame and own, but a mustang heart does not agree. Unchained. Free. Mustangs are not domestic by any means. RIP Thor....yeah... I'm crying.

@@karenkingart Do you think it would be possible to buy Thora and send her to a horse sanctuary? Is it Sky Dog that is a reputable one? I wish we could buy these wild horse lands, put them in a perpetual trust for the wild horses. Cuz some us know the round ups are really all about ranchers and grazing rights.

Just stop right there first Thora went for 60k and if it was a private buyer that got her spending a pretty penny like that says she will have an amazing home secondly no sanctuary is good or reputable what they do is a fukn shame hording horses from homes that can love them and give them good life's and all in the name of keeping them free

@@NavvyMom This herd is heavily monitored by a local group and many photographers and wild horse advocates. There were only about 180 horses until the recent round up of almost 40 horses. Thor was only the lieutenant stallion in the band, so the number one stallion Talequah did most of the breeding. Thor did manage to sire a look alike filly who was rounded up this spring. His only offspring we know for sure.

I loves all horses, especially mustangs, and I just found this channel. Thor was a beautiful, one of a kind horse and with rare markings for a paint. I can see some of the breeding he possessed, and that is with, I’m guessing, Arabian, Andalusian, possibly Morgan, etc. He was one of the best stallions I’ve seen so far, having a powerful chest and compact body, good for the wild range he lived on. He can never be replaced, but I’m hoping there might be more out there with his colorful markings someday. 👍❤️🙏🏼🥰😇 I’m also an artist and I love drawing and painting (oil paintings that is) all animals and scenery, especially horses, been doing it ever since I was first introduced to horses at 3 and then was sat on one at age 5. I rode horses whenever I could. Two horses I absolutely fell in love with one named Dixie, a draft mare and Tony, an half Arab/Morgan mix, both horses and I connected and they became my friends and favorite horses to ride. Even though they weren’t my horses, I still miss them. I am 75 now. 😥😭.

This wild horse herd in Wyoming is very special, and losing Thor has been quite a blow to all who followed him. His only daughter looked just like him, but she was rounded up by the government this spring at 6 months of age. Thor does have a sister similar to him, but she is getting up in age and I'm not aware of any of her foals. The PZP birth control is used on this herd.

That's so awesome you also paint horses! Like you, I fell in love with horses at age 2 when my grandfather sat me on one of his ponies. It started a lifelong love affair with horses for me. I bred and raised Arabian horses for over 20 years. I still miss my first mare that I owned.
I worked on a pipeline running alongside the Flaming Gorge in 2019. At one of the manifolds we were working on had a wild horse herd that stuck around because of the freshwater spring nearby. The stud would keep a watchful eye on us all day as his mares ate away on the hillside. I feed the horses at my local vet clinic and in 4 years I have yet to see a horse in as good of physical condition as those wild horses. They spend their lives roaming up and down those hills on the east side of the Gorge. It's flat here in south east Texas.
@karenkingart

Interesting. Yes, the stallions will keep an eye on you even when you think they are just grazing. I wouldn't want to get in-between a stallion and his mares. It can be dangerous. Most people think the wild horses are just scrub horses that are skinny and ugly. This is so far from the truth. After 500y ears of breeding and natural selection the horses have strong feet and are immune to a lot of the domestic horse issues. They are so smart, too. I've been around domestic horses my whole life and even with good management you can spend an arm and a leg on vet and farrier costs. I hope my videos will educate people on the wild horse and the plight of decimating the herds in Nevada and Wyoming to make room for cattle.
Rest in peace wild soul 😢❤😔🌿🕊🙏💕

Look at all that open ground. And they say wild horses are destroying it. What kind of fools do they think we are. Billions of Buffalo used to survive on those lands. And they are screamkng about a few head of horses. Compared to how many domestic cattle. At $ 1.39 a month.😮 Those horses are healthy strong and beautiful.

Man I wish I was Elan.
I hope that the people who gets thors daughter treats her with respect and kindness from the beginning because she is going to pass on the best bloodlines of these wild horses and we have never ever seen any of this heard of horses have any weaknesses or leg deformation or lameness they have the makings of one of the top ones who are capable of being the best under saddle if you get a trainer who would work with these wild horses so they still have their spirit instead of braking their spirit by working against them because these horses are of a type of horse that is not around anymore so we need to keep this heard going so that they do not disper from this world

Wow beautiful
A beautiful wild horse, living as is meant to be. It makes me heartbroken for our wild horses in Australia. They are not appreciated for their contribution to the history of our country and treated like vermin instead, with the government allowing them to be culled regularly, by being shot from helicopters and allowed to die in agony, their foals starving beside them. Supposedly, they do too much damage to our fragile flora but I would argue that just as much if not more is done by avid hikers, elite ski enthusiasts and rich ignorant tourists trampling through our landscapes. I have signed many petitions to stop the inhumane killing of these sentient creatures but its all about the dollars. They are costly to contain and humans are more important, always.

I've heard about the plight of the wild horse Brumbies in Australia. It sounds very familiar to the wild horses of America. The lies are told that they are "over populated" and destroy the land, which is totally false. On the contrary, the wild horse helps the land by dispersing seeds and helps other wildlife by breaking the ice in the winter for other wildlife to have water. Our government is just as brutal to our wild horses. At least they aren't shot from helicopters, but they have been shot from the ground and also end up in the kill pens to be sold for slaughter to Canada and Mexico. I hope one day to visit and film the wild horses of Australia. Never give up fighting for our wild ones!
Beautiful tribute, Karen. Thank you.
